Halo Infinite: BBG Pro ‘Minds’ Accused of Cheating in $10K Tournament

0

Professional Halo Infinite player ‘Minds’, who currently plays for the Build by Games roster, has been accused of wall-hacking in a $10,000 tournament.

In a recent Tweet, Druk has posted a clip that seems to show evidence of Minds using wallhacks in the grand finals of the tournament. In the video, we can see Minds pre-firing a pipe without any prior information on the enemy’s position, a play that Druk found to be suspicious.

“He just pre-fires me without even seeing me, I haven’t shot, his teammate hasn’t shot me, and he just puts a full burst into the pipe before he even sees me,” he explained.

“When cheaters wall they know they have to hide it in their gameplay,” Druk said in a follow-up Tweet. “But humans make mistakes. watch a waller’s POV, you will see the mistakes.”

He also uploaded a 25-minute long video on YouTube, explaining his accusations against Minds  further across multiple plays in the same game.

Whether the accusations against Minds turn out to be true and if he receives a suspension from competitive Halo still remains to be seen.

LeafyIsHere Returns to YouTube , Addresses Past Pokimane Drama

0

After being indefinitely suspended from YouTube back in August 2020, Calvin ‘LeafyIsHere‘ Vail has returned to the platform once again with a new podcast in which he addressed the past drama involving Pokimane alongside discussing a bunch of other aspects of his ban.

In his new YouTube channel ‘LeafyCast’, the 26-year-old has released the first episode of his podcast on January 7, 2022, which is also his first video on the platform since his ban.

After explaining to his viewers what he had been up to since his ban on YouTube, Twitch, and Twitter, Leafy proceeded to reflect on the reason for his ban from YouTube.

While addressing the past drama involving him and Pokimane, Leafy hints that his ban might have been unjust. “How did I even get banned for this? It wasn’t even that toxic,” Leafy said, while replaying one of his old videos on YouTube. “They really made it out like I was going around insulting people as hard as I possibly could. This is so f**king whack.”

In the podcast, he also revisits one of his old videos where he joked that he wouldn’t stop making videos on Pokimane till he’s banned from YouTube. “Well… That aged well, really well,” Leafy commented.

He explained that he had spent most of his time traveling around the country after his ban, but he also missed YouTube. He’d also send regular appeals to Twitter to get his account unbanned, in which he eventually succeeded two weeks ago when he finally got his Twittter handle back.

Square Enix Plans to Invest more into Blockchain Gaming & NFTs

0

Square Enix president Yosuke Matsuda on 1st January released a public letter discussing Square Enix’s overview for the year 2022.

In his address, Yosuke Matsuda spent most of his time discussing the rise of NFTs and Blockchain technology in gaming. He termed this rise as “decentralized gaming”. He also said that the metaverse was “a hot topic in 2021, inspiring a lively global conversation first about what the metaverse is and then about what sort of business opportunities it presents.”

He said that single-player and multiplayer games have evolved from the traditional formula of unidirectional flow of creators providing and players consuming. By contrast, blockchain games are built on-premise of token economy and enable self-sustaining game growth where players will be motivated towards “play to contribute” and “play to earn”.

According to Matsuda, the traditional formula offered no explicit incentive and promoted players to stick to the old retrograde of “play to have fun” and get inconsistent personal feelings such as goodwill and volunteer spirit from games. This lead people to devote themselves to a single game and/or franchise and generate UGC (user-generated content) that was limited to a single game/franchise.

Matsuda believes that by design the blockchain gaming will allow UGC to be used in any game that’s in the blockchain gaming ecosystem. This will motivate and inspire players to connect with one another and try out more games without losing their access to UGC.

Although Matsuda also agrees that there are unfortunate examples of overheated trading in NFT-based digital goods with somewhat speculative value and ownership of content.

This, obviously, is not an ideal situation, but I expect to see an eventual right-sizing in digital goods deals as they become more commonplace among the general public, with the value of each available content corrected to their true estimated worth, and I look for them to become as familiar as dealings in physical goods

Matsuda

Previously, Square Enix sparked controversy with its first public use of NFTs when it collaborated with a blockchain startup called Double Jump Tokyo to sell NFTs for the first time via Million Arthur assets. That announcement quickly garnered negative reactions and fans’ concerns about Square Enix’s attempt to further monetization.

E3 2022 To Be Online Only Event Once Again After Latest Covid Outbreak

0

The annual trade and met up of the video game industry, the Electronic Entertainment Expo commonly referred to as E3 is once again going to be an online-only event in 2022.

According to a statement from its organizers, The Electronic Software Association (ESA), the annual event is returning as an online-only format for the second time in a row due to ”ongoing health risks surrounding COVID-19 and its potential impact on the safety of exhibitors and attendees.”

Since last month, the latest Omicron variant of Covid19 has been spreading worldwide rapidly causing disruption in services and business at large. While the latest spread isn’t as deadly as before, the virus is spreading very quickly and the USA is reporting 700K avg cases daily.

The latest spread of Omicron cases has forced all events to reschedule or move to an online-only format. Starting with the CES 2022 in Las Vegas, where we saw many major technology companies pulling out of the in-person event and instead opting to host virtual shows to announce new products.

After the cancellation of 2020’s E3 event and moving 2021’s E3 to an online-only format, the ESA had previously said that in 2022 they will return to an in-person event. While ESA did not reveal any plans for this year’s event and only said that they are “nonetheless excited about the future of E3 and look forward to announcing more details soon.”

It is unclear just what kind of future E3 holds after all is said and done. With the 3rd time cancellation of an in-person event, the ESA is again going to miss a major source of its revenue for 3rd year in a row. Plus the increased competition from independent publisher events and Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest has been chugging away from the potential revenue of ESA every year.
