TalkEsport has covered esports since 2009. This page sets out how we work, so readers know what to expect from us and what to hold us to.
What we cover
We report on competitive gaming and the industry around it: tournaments, teams, players, publishers, and the business and policy decisions that shape them. Our focus is India and South Asia, with coverage of global events where they matter to our readers.
How we report
We verify before we publish. Claims of fact are checked against primary sources: official announcements, tournament operators, teams, players, or documents we have seen. Where a story rests on a single source, we say so.
We attribute. When we report information first published elsewhere, we credit and link to the original. When we use a quote, we say where it came from and when it was said.
We distinguish reporting from opinion. News articles report what happened. Editorials, opinion pieces and analysis are labelled as such and appear in their own sections.
We label uncertainty. Leaks, rumours and unconfirmed reports are identified as such in the headline and the text. We do not present speculation as fact.
We seek comment. Where a story is critical of a person or organisation, we approach them for comment before publication wherever practical, and we say if they declined or did not respond.
Who writes for us
Every article carries the name of the journalist who wrote it, linking to a profile that sets out their beat and experience. We do not publish anonymously, and we do not publish under invented bylines.
Our writers are expected to declare any personal interest in what they cover: a relationship with a team or organisation, a financial holding, or paid work in the industry. Where a conflict cannot be avoided, it is disclosed in the article or the story is assigned to someone else.
AI and automation
We do not publish articles generated by AI and passed off as human reporting. Where AI tools assist with research, transcription or editing, the article remains the work and responsibility of the named journalist, who verifies every fact in it.
Independence
Our editorial decisions are made by our editorial team. Advertisers, sponsors and commercial partners have no say in what we cover, how we cover it, or whether a story runs. Nobody outside the editorial team sees an article before publication except where a subject has been given a right of reply.
