GTA 6 TV Commercial vs Launch Trailer: Every Cut and Extended Shot

Rockstar’s first TV commercial for GTA 6 aired on October 20, 2026, during the NBA’s opening night broadcast on NBC Sports. The spot is a trimmed version of the October 15 launch trailer, and it removes two of the three shower moments between Jason and Lucia. It also closes on a PlayStation logo alone, even though the game is coming to Xbox Series X|S as well.

Viewers first caught the ad during the New York Knicks vs Philadelphia 76ers game. Fans also reported a matching or near-identical version during Pistons vs Celtics and Thunder vs Spurs the same night.

GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. That puts this ad four weeks out from release.

What Rockstar Cut From the GTA 6 TV Ad

The biggest change is the shower content. The first shower shot of Jason and Lucia survives, but the two later ones were removed for television.

According to RockstarINTEL, the TV version drops the moment where Jason and Lucia kiss in the shower. The short shot of the ankle tag on Lucia’s leg, which hinted she is out on parole, is also missing.

Rockstar has not explained the edit. A prime-time NBA broadcast reaches a much wider and younger audience than a YouTube trailer behind an age gate, so a broadcast-safe cut was always likely. Guns, car chases and robberies stayed in. Only the intimate shots got trimmed.

One popular fan account claims the three shower shots come from three separate story moments, and that they are optional depending on how players handle Jason and Lucia’s relationship. Rockstar has not confirmed this. For what is known so far, read our GTA 6 romance system explainer on Jason and Lucia.

Which GTA 6 Shots Got Longer in the TV Version

Cutting scenes left gaps in a fixed-length ad. Rockstar filled them by letting three existing shots run a little longer.

None of the extra frames reveal anything new about the story. Frame-by-frame fans will still want them, since this is the last fresh GTA 6 footage before launch unless Rockstar drops more.

Why the Xbox Logo Is Missing From the GTA 6 Commercial

The ad never mentions Xbox. As TheGamer reported, citing X user videotech, even the small legal print at the end shows only PlayStation.

This follows Sony’s co-marketing deal, which has pushed the “Plays best on PS5” message across GTA 6 promotion. The October 15 launch trailer also left Xbox off its end card. Trailer 2 back in May 2025 did include the Xbox logo, which is why the change stands out.

GTA 6 is still releasing on Xbox Series X|S on day one. The risk sits with casual TV viewers, who may walk away thinking the game is a PS5 exclusive. If you play on Xbox, our guide on whether GTA 6 will be on Xbox Game Pass at launch covers what to expect.

The GTA 6 TV Spot Leak Turned Out to Be Accurate

TalkEsport reported on October 5 that a Reddit user had spotted a 45-second “GTA VI TV SPOT” on a news station’s internal schedule. The listing had no air date, and the post was deleted soon after.

Some fans guessed the ad would run on October 18 based on the schedule blocks around it. It landed two days later, on NBA opening night.

The runtime of the aired version has not been officially confirmed. The launch trailer runs about 90 seconds, so the broadcast cut is clearly shorter.

How the TV Ad Fits Rockstar’s GTA 6 Marketing Push

Basketball was a deliberate choice. The Miami Heat will play as “Vice City” against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18, the night before launch, with a custom court and uniforms. The Heat had also said some Vice City activities would start on NBA opening night, which is exactly when this ad aired.

The campaign keeps getting bigger. Rockstar put a Welcome to Vice City sign on the Kaseya Center roof and secured approval for a GTA 6 marketing campaign on Miami Beach.

Edits for local audiences are now a pattern. A giant GTA 6 banner on one of the Les Mercuriales towers near Paris removed the guns from the cover art, while US murals kept them.

Rockstar has done TV before. Ahead of Red Dead Redemption 2’s October 2018 launch, it ran several TV ads that mostly reused trailer footage, including a 30-second spot.

What Happens Next

More airings are likely through November, and the Heat’s Vice City game on November 18 airs nationally on ESPN. That broadcast is the obvious place for the next GTA 6 commercial.
