Take-Two Interactive CEO Strauss Zelnick has also spoken publicly about the company’s stance on subscription releases. Speaking at a GamesIndustry.biz event in 2022, Zelnick said Take-Two supported subscription platforms in general but did not see the economic case in putting frontline console releases into a subscription library on the same day they go on sale.
That comment does not set official policy for GTA 6, but it lines up with what has now been confirmed for November 19.
GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2’s Xbox Game Pass History
Rockstar’s two biggest earlier titles did eventually make it to Xbox Game Pass, just not quickly. GTA 5 first joined the service on January 3, 2020, more than six years after its original September 17, 2013 release on Xbox 360 and PS3.
Red Dead Redemption 2 followed a similar path. It arrived on Xbox Game Pass on May 7, 2020, close to two years after its October 26, 2018 launch.
Since their first appearances, the two games have had different fates on the service. GTA 5 has returned to Xbox Game Pass four separate times, including runs in 2020, 2021, 2023, and 2025. Its most recent stint began on April 15, 2025, and ended on April 15, 2026, making it the game’s longest single run on the service. Red Dead Redemption 2, by comparison, has appeared only once, leaving the catalog on September 7, 2020, and has not returned since.
Will GTA 6 Come to Xbox Game Pass in the Future?
There is no confirmed date for GTA 6 joining Xbox Game Pass after launch. Based on Rockstar’s history with GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, a future addition is possible, but nothing suggests it would happen soon. GTA 5’s own six-and-a-half-year wait before its first Game Pass appearance points to a long runway rather than a quick turnaround.
GTA 6’s pre-orders have already crossed 4 million copies, and its $100 Ultimate Edition is reportedly outselling the $80 Standard Edition. With demand already running high ahead of launch, Rockstar has little incentive to offer the game through a subscription service anytime soon.

The Game Pass Ultimate plan costs $22.99 per month and includes access to more than 500 titles, some available on release day. GTA 6 will not be one of them at launch.
