Bravado beat Signify to win DreamHack Mumbai Invitational 2018

0

Bravado redeemed their inability to win the last Dreamhack Open Winter Grand Final by securing the Dreamhack Mumbai Invitational title. The South-African stack, currently living in North America as part of Project Destiny, landed the title by taking revenge over Signify, who beat them in the Upper Bracket Finals.

Signify though, impressed everyone, given that the team has been formed less than a week ago. Bravado secured the victory over three maps after the two teams traded each otherโ€™s map picks. (6-16 Inferno, 16-11 Train, 16-2 Dust2)

Signify were the first into the Grand Finals, beating Bravado 2-0 in the Upper Bracket Finals.

Bravado were knocked down to the Lower Bracket Final and beat Energy in a bo1 to earn a rematch.

Bravado started on the T side on Inferno. A successful retake of the B site from Signify yielded them their ninth straight pistol round win of the Dreamhack Mumbai Final Brackets. Deathmaker then came up big with a 3k on the anti-eco to ensure Signify donโ€™t lose the advantage straight away.

Marzil seemed intent on pushing it to 3-0 with a great opening through a mid push awp shot towards 2nd mid. But, Bravado immediately changed their course and rushed the B site to earn their first round of the map. Encouraged by their success at B, Bravado proceeded to push the score to 3-2 in their favour, with Detrony nabbing the Anti-eco ace in the fifth round..

Signify though, soon levelled the score and then regained the lead with a two-man Apartments push. With the score poised at 6-3 in Signifyโ€™s favour, Marzil came up trumps with a 3k to add another round.

The domination continued as Signify shut down Bravado on either bombsites before a successful retake at B saw the score run to 11-3. The half ended at 12-3, with Bravado needing the pistol. Signify chose to hit the apartments in a slow push. Bravado though, anticipated a B execute and pushed mid, which left the A site open and for the taking. A failed retake saw Bravado lose the pistol.

Before we knew it, the score ran to 15-3. But, Bravado wanted to string together some rounds and were not ready to give up just yet. A nervy but successful A retake was followed by two convincing rounds. But, SIgnify took the A site in the 22nd round to secure Inferno, which was Bravadoโ€™s map pick.

Train started in similar fashion, with Signify winning another pistol round. DeathMaker and Marzil shut down B before rushing to a 3-0 lead. Bravado though, did not let it slip further and retaliated with successful slow takes of the A site to level the scores.

Bravado rushed to a 5-3 lead before Signify hit them back on an eco. An ivy push by Signify saw them nullify the lead before Bravado responded with an A take. They were unsuccessful in their next attempt at A, thus making the scores level again at 6-6.

In this back and forth map, Signify finally strung together 3 rounds in succession to end the half 9-6, with DeathMaker impressing with a 3k at the Ivy defence in the 14th round.

Signify continued their streak of winning pistol rounds with DeathMaker and Marzil sharing the kills again. But, Bravado responded with a weird Triple Scout Force buy, which worked. Before we knew it, the scores were level again at 10-10.

Bravado seemed to have figured out the secret to unlocking the Signify defence, with the Indian organisation managing to add just one round before conceding the map 11-16. This pushed the Grand Final into the decider, Dust2.

With fire under the belly of Bravado players, they started Dust2 on the T side with a series of Fast A long takes, which saw Signify drop their first pistol round of the event as the score soared to 5-0 in favour of Bravado.

Signify though, put themselves on the Board for Dust2 with a win on the eco, thanks to random pickoffs, which caught Bravado out of position. Bravado pulled out the Ex6tenZ jump strategy at A to hit them back.
Signify chose to push and it almost saw Bravado concede the round. But, a 4k from Sonic and some clutch shots from the A platform saw them deny Signify the retake once again. With the score at 8-1, Ace came up huge with a 1v2 on the retake at A to add to their solitary round win.

But, Bravado never hit the brakes and continued to attack the A long area before they denied a B retake attempt to push to 12-2. Another 2v2 retake attempt was foiled by Bravado, who ended the half 13-2.

Bravado won the final pistol round of the event as well by shutting down a quick B rush attempt. Bravado decimated consecutive Mid attempts from Signify, including a 3k from Detrony in the final round, to win the map, series and Dreamhack Mumbai, with a scoreline of 16-2 on Dust2.

While the Signify aggression was too much for Bravado on Inferno, they took advantage of one too many choke points on Train to trade the maps. On Dust2, it was more a case of Signify disintegrating after facing their first map loss on Train.

Bravado chose to remove the brakes and Signify had no answer to their own style of play. Still, Signify would be elated with their showing. Not only did they gain the crown of the best Indian team by winning the first BYOC Qualifier, but they also defeated Bravado once and ran them close in the Grand Finals.

For Signify, this is just the start. For Bravado, Project Destiny is finally paying dividends.

DreamHack Mumbai Invitational 2018 final standings:

  1. Bravado – $21,000
  2. Signify – $10,500
  3. eNergy – $3,000
  4. Entity Gaming – $500

Team Liquid add adreN as coach

0

Earlier this week, Team Liquid traded Epitacio “TACO” de Melo and Wilton “zews” Prado for Jake “Stewie2K” Yip from MIBR and Liquid’s co-founder stated that ‘the organization is reviewing a number of options to fill the coaching role’. In the aftermath, North American squad has finalized the position with the addition of Eric “adreN” Hoag. The 28-year-old has played under Team Liquid’s banner during 2015-2016 and later, he moved to Mystic Gaming.

Under Wilton’s coaching, Liquid has achieved tremendous success with two LAN victories and multiple second-place finishes. On the other hand, Eric will reunite with a couple of his former teammates Jonathan “EliGE” Jablonowski and Nick “nitr0” Cannella. Either of iBUYPOWER Invitational or IEM Katowice 2019 could be an ideal event for Team Liquid’s debut with Wilton and Jake.

Team Liquid’s roaster for 2019:

Jakeย “Stewie2K”ย Yip

MIBR announce the signing of Taco and Zews from Liquid as Stewie2K goes the other way

2

MIBR have announced that they have signed Epitacio “TACO” de Melo and Wilton “zews” Prado from Team Liquid, with Jake “Stewie2K” Yip going the other way.

This means that MIBR have re signed the core which was part of their success from 2015 to early 2018 where they saw a run of winning 2 consecutive Majors in 2016.

https://twitter.com/mibr/status/1076198328407412736

It is expected that they will retain an all Brazilian roster, with Joรฃo “felps” Vasconcellos being the front runner for the 5th spot, with names like kNgV and kscerato being refuted for being Un feasible for different reasons.

Meanwhile, Stewie2K is set to move to Team Liquid, as the project of getting top stars from America and Brazil in one team did not quite kick off, as the only trophy they won was that of the ZOTAC Cup Masters 2018, which consisted mainly of tier 2 teams. They were also consistently out of the top 3, which was underwhelming considering the talent they had at their disposal.

The 20 year old said in a statement:

“Iโ€™m disappointed to see this journey come to an end because I don’t feel that we received a sufficient amount of time to truly reach our potential. We had some hurdles we fought through, as it is expected that every individual on an International lineup need that extra time find their composure, synergy, and flow.”

However, it seems like we werenโ€™t able to power through the psychological challenge we had. And despite the recent month of confidence and some convincing results, it’s no secret that we still have our problems. I believe these guys have a championship mindset but they have won so much that they have forgotten how to lose. I wish weโ€™ve received some more time after ending the year with decent results and tackling all the problems together instead of running away from it. Iโ€™m aware of what I signed up for and will be moving on with no hard feelings.

The two people whose future is uncertain though, is Tarik โ€œtarikโ€ Celik and Janko “YNk” Paunoviฤ‡, who are all but confirmed to leave the organisation. While YNk is likely to return as an analyst, there has been no offer for tarik at the moment as he continues to remain benched. There is no news on the new coach of Liquid as well.

The new rosters now look as follows:

MIBR:

Gabrielย “FalleN”ย Toledo

Fernandoย “fer”ย Alvarenga

Marceloย “coldzera”ย David

Epitacioย “TACO”ย de Melo

Report: Freakazoid to move to Ghost Gaming

0

Counter Strike veteran Ryan ‘Freakazoid’ Abadir has been linked to a move to Ghost Gaming, in place of Yassine โ€˜Subrozaโ€™ Taoufik, according to a report by VPEsports.

The news follows a poor run of form for Ghost Gaming, after failing to qualify for the StarSeries Season 7 Qualifiers, and an early exit at the ESL Pro League Season 8 Finals.

Freakazoid, the founder of Swole Patrol, has been looking for a move for a while now, after a rift with his brother Austin “Cooper” Abadir for joining eUnited right before the MDL playoffs, that has left some instability within the team.

Ghost Gaming now boasts of an experienced lineup with the likes of Joshua โ€œsteelโ€ Nissan and Kenneth โ€œkoostaโ€ Suen. Swole Patrol on the other hand will be in a difficult situation if Freakazoid decides to leave the organization. As the founder and leader of the team, Swole Patrol will be left with Jordan โ€œZellsisโ€ Montemurro as the last remaining member of the original lineup if he indeed leaves.

ESL to Introduce Brand New LAN Format for Season 9

0

ESL has announced a completely new format for Pro League matches in 2019 in association with WESA, with all matches being played exclusively on LAN in front of an audience.

While the APAC region will still have online matches, the Europe and NA regions of the Pro League will be played completely in a studio environment, with a new format for qualification.

The 3 regions having 16 teams each, will be split up in 4 groups per region. Each group will be divided based on the seedings provided by ESL’s World Ranking. The winner of the group in the European and American regions will directly get a spot in the Grand Finals.

The 2nd and 3rd placed teams will be divided again in 2 groups for filling the remaining spots.
Here is where it gets tricky, though. While Europe has 8 spots for the finals, NA has just 6. Therefore the winners and runners up from both the groups in Europe will qualify for the finals, whereas for the NA region only the winner will move on.

As for APAC, it is a slightly different format. The 4 Groups will comprise of 2 groups from the ANZ region while the other 2 will have teams from the Rest of Asia. Since Asia only has 2 spots, the winners and runners up from each group will move on to Round 2, where the winners of each region will qualify for the Pro League.

The new season of the ESL Pro League will begin April 12, and will span four weeks to determine who goes onto the World Finals.

MIBR on the verge of signing Felps

2

According to a report by HLTV.org, MIBR are close to re signing former player Joรฃo “felps” Vasconcellos, who is currently a part of INTZ.

The move comes after they traded Stewie2K for Taco and benched Tarik, with a view to form an all Brazilian roster, after a rather subdued performance with the current one.

The report also states that the 22 year old was not the first choice, with ex immortals awper Vito “kNgV-” Giuseppe being the name that was suggested, but was revoked by the CEO Noah Winston, due to his poor record of discipline and antics that caused him to be kicked from the immortals roster.

The Brazilian organisation had also approached FURIA ace Kaike “kscerato” Cerato but were turned off by the $200000 release clause.

Felps now returns to the organization he had left around a year ago, with whom he had won ESL One Cologne and ECS Season 3 Finals but left due to an internal tiff. This means that the new lineup is as follows:

Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo

Marcelo “coldzera” David

Fernando “fer” Alvarenga

Epitacio “TACO” de Melo

Joรฃo “felps“ Vasconcellos

Wilton “zews” Prado (coach)
