League of Legends players raise $6 million for charity through Riot Social Impact Fund

Riot announced the drop of their 1000th League Of Legend skin back in December, the Dawnbringer Karma launch which was followed by another generous announcement. Riot promised to donate the proceeds from the sale of the skin to social impact funds.

Since the launch, the studio has been able to raise an astounding sum of $6 Million, with the help of the players. The company has left it in the hand of the players with an open poll, where they get to decide three nonprofit organizations who will receive the donation. The winning organization of the poll will receive 50% which translates to $3 Million, while the 2nd and 3rd placed organizations will get 25%, i.e. $1.5 Million each. The poll will take place between the 10th and 23rd of April 2020.

“At the end of the voting window, the local nonprofit who has the most votes will receive 50% of their regional charity pool and the other nonprofits will each get 25% of the regional charity pool. We’ve guaranteed a minimum grant of $10,000 USD for each nonprofit. Being a global company enables us to approach social impact with a global mindset. A key part of that is allowing players to have agency in selecting to support what matters most to them. We hope to learn a lot from this approach and look forward to continuing our journey forward together.” said Riot in their official statement.

Players will be able to vote by logging in to their League Of Legends client, where they will choose the organization in their region which they think are “doing the most meaningful work for their communities”.

Maingear is building ventilators using gaming PC Cases

2

MAINGEAR, Inc. A private American computer manufacturer brand headquartered in Kenilworth, New Jersey has stepped in the fight against COVID-19 pandemic. Maingear has developed a ventilator, the LIV, with the help of an older version of the F131 PC case. LIV is designed in such a way that it is very easy to use featuring automatic operations, a touchscreen interface and several presets. It can start delivering oxygen within 1.5 seconds to the patients.

LIV’s off-shelf components are designed while keeping the entire build cost in mind. As per Maingear, LIV can be built at a quarter of the price of the traditional ventilators. The savings made with the usage of these LIV ventilators instead of the conventional ventilators can make a huge difference for the hospitals that are struggling to cope with the high patient load.

However, LIV is not ready to serve the patients yet as it is still waiting for FDA approval so that it can be used in the US. Maingear is planning to deploy the ventilators in the states of the US as soon as possible and make it available internationally as well.  It will be interesting to see when these ventilators can join the fight against COVID-19 and help save lives.

CSGO Pros to form Separate Hub for Pros and Entertainment Streamers

Semi-professional players from several regions cross swords and compete against each other in the FPL (FACEIT Pro League). FPL is a place where the Semi-pros often showcase their skill set and try to come out on top in a bid to get noticed by the Professional teams out across the globe. FPL does also allow the Professional players to queue up alongside these Semi-pros where the latter stand a chance to set up a comparison between their play styles with theirs.

Photo via EPICENTER

Earlier today Aleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev on his twitter posted a tweet stating about a hub which he and Nikola ‘NiKo’ Kovač have planned to open which would only feature players from the Professional Scene and streamers too. As many of the Semi-Professional players on FACEIT are serious about their games and performances, the ones from the pro scene queue up for FPL just to have relax and have fun. But with the primary objective of getting noticed by the community on their minds, these semi-pros might pile up some aggravating moments for the pro players as they might not want to have fun on the server unlike the latter.

From the above tweet of s1mple and his reply to one of the comments in his thread, one can easily deduce the details from it which do highlight about a counsel of five players who have already came up with their judgements and in addition to this, s1mple does assure about the fact that all the Professional players will have a say of their own when the entire process would come down to a voting system where they would vote to either add or discard a specific player.

Also, Nathan “NBK” Schmitt did throw some light on this issue after Lobanjicaaaa, an FPL player who recently left the FPL Europe Hub after he got frustrated in a match where everyone seemed to be playing according to their own strategies and thus in due course overshadowing the fact that they had a Tier-1 player in their team (Johannes ‘tabseN’ Wodarz) thus disrespecting his thoughts as well.

Lobanjicaaaa did a post on his Reddit account where he focused on his unexpected “raged” exit from the FPL Europe Hub. Here is a Twitch.tv link where we can witness a player trash talk to tabseN.

CSGO devs just nerfed SG553 in new Update

After months of banter and requests made to CSGO devs, the rifles which were debated to be overpowered have just been equated. The new update brings about a lot of changes to the maps in activepool.

Valve have just dropped one of the most significant updates to CSGO in recent times. The update will change the meta of the game, as players will no longer be exploting the use of SG553 & AUG, which were heavily criticized.

Change in weaponry

The most significant change in the recent update comes to the secondary snipers, SG553/Krieg on the terrorist side. Whereas AUG’s performance has been improved.

Desert Eagle, the fancy pistol will now be more accurate when firing mid-air. Tec9, another pistol used by the terrorists has also been buffed, meaning, the accuracy will now be better. M4A1-S is cheaper by $200, available now at $2900.

Map reforms

Anubis has been moved to Competitive mode from Scrimmage. Water reflection issues have also been fixed on the map along with performance improvements. Along with these, reported regarding clipping and unintended boosts have been patched on the map.

Inferno received HDR setting tweaks and the wall by door to A site balcony is now bingelibangable.

Office has come to receive some funny tweaks as the beverage machines have been restocked, office has been moved to non-smoking zone and kitchen break room has been cleaned up. Snow has also been accumulated by the dumpster in back courtyard.

In this update, Overpass has a pixel boost at B site water removed along with a reworked bombsite A backdrop. World lighting has also been improved and a new collision model on dumpsters have been found around the map.

Chlorine received changes to lighting and had default CT player model changed to FBI. A plywood has been added on the B site for better visibility. Water puddles on the map has been removed and an areaportal on squeaky door has been fixed. A grenade clip has also been added on yellow trap and clipping issues near crazy river has been fixed. Make Dota 2 Great Again: Here’s What Valve Can Do to Save Their Flagship MOBA

0

Dota 2 is a MOBA by Valve that was released in April 2013. With certain exceptions, ever since it was released on Steam it glided through to the top of the steam charts without any hassle and stayed there. March 2016 saw the game amassing 1.29 million concurrent gamers playing the game. But from there it was all a downhill ride. The game slowly started losing players and started losing to PUBG and even CS:GO. In the last month of March 2020, Dota 2 peaked at around 750,000 players while CS:GO reached new milestones at about 1.2 million concurrent players, almost 60% more than that of Dota.

Valve is testing a new way to update Dota 2 regularly - TechSpot

The reasons accounting for the decline of playerbase being the increasing complexity of the game after every update and lack of new stuff to get players engaged with the game. Now I’d be preaching to the choir if I said that Icefrog isn’t doing a good job to implement new stuff in the game. He is doing a terrific job in bringing new changes to the map and changing the way heroes are typically played by adding huge changes in every patch, especially the ones after every TI. However, this further increases the complexity of the game and newbies tend to get frustrated when the game they spend so much time learning is changed drastically by a single update. Without a steady flow of new players, it’d only seem obvious that the game will gradually lose its player count and eventually die out.

We, along with millions of other fans of the game don’t want this to happen. Dota is a title that has defined an era of MOBAs in the world, seeing it die out would be heart-breaking for any person whose childhood was made up of this game. So we came up with a list of potential things Valve could do that might end up saving this game.

A Campaign based on lore

The lore behind Dota 2 is huge. The backstory of a single hero in Dota is bigger than entire storylines of many video games. However, the lores of the heroes aren’t really focused on much in the game. Players are left in the dark from the interesting stories of the heroes they play. This can be fixed by adding a single-player or co-op campaign to the game. Not only it will attract lots of other players who exclusively play single-player games, but it’ll also be a nice stress-relief for people who get heated by the extremely competitive environment of the game. It can also act as a potential tutorial for beginners, which we’ll get to later.

Item Drops

Item drops are something that were actually present in the game long ago. People could get marketable cosmetics for heroes, even Arcanas which cost over 30$ each just by playing the game. Although the item drops are still present, the drops you get by playing can neither be traded nor be sold in the market. The decline of players in the game might be a direct result of this change made by Valve as some occasional posts still come up on platforms like Reddit where players ask for the old item drop system to be reimplemented. The adrenalin rush from receiving a 30$ cosmetic just by playing a single game might just be enough to get players engaged to the game.

Advertising

Valve has almost always lost to Riot in terms of advertising. They simply don’t put as much emphasis on advertising Dota as Riot does to League, and this has started posing some serious problems. The absence of advertising cuts the flow of new players to the game, which goes through a loop to make the queue times insanely high on the highest levels of Dota. The butterfly effect is well explained in this post on Reddit.

Fans of the franchise have raised their voices on the lack of marketing by Valve in spite of the huge amount of money they’re making through battle pass sales. Breaking this loop would require bringing new players to the game, and advertising the game through YouTube ads or on websites will efficiently do the trick.

Animated Series / Movies

Once again, the humongous lore of Dota 2 leaves plenty of room for an animated series similar to League, or perhaps a movie? There’s already plenty of storyline to proceed with it, and a series or movie will work wonders in advertisement of the game. There’s already a movie about Warcraft, so the same concept for Dota can certainly be possible. The idea of an animated series also sprung up on Reddit recently, as u/L4wr3nc31 mentions in this post.

A better tutorial

It’s undeniable that the Dota 2 tutorial is subpar at best. The tutorial gives new players only a basic idea of what the game is about. The small tutorial isn’t nowhere close to being enough to give players the information about the hundreds of items and heroes the game possesses. A lot of improvement can still be made on it to get players attracted to the game. The length of the tutorial also needs to be increased to accommodate room for all the complex mechanics that are left out in the current tutorial. Newbies tend to jump into unranked directly after finishing this incomplete tutorial and get destroyed by more experienced players, discouraging them from pursuing the game further.

The smurf problem

Boosters and smurfs throughout history have played vital roles in ruining games, and this problem is especially notable in Dota 2. As mentioned in the loop earlier, lack of new players flowing into the game eventually results in exceptionally high queue times for higher-ranked pubs, forcing some impatient players to create new accounts and stomp newbies in lower-ranked games. While there probably can’t be a complete solution to fix the smurf problem in a free-to-play game, Valve can surely take steps to minimize the number of smurfs and boosters in the game by preventing them from getting matched with new players. One such concept was mentioned by Elwono in his detailed YouTube video.

Previously, Valve mentioned that they had plans for a revised “New Player Experience”, and since they are infamous for surprising their fans by announcing new content out of nowhere, we might certainly see something good in the upcoming months. Also, the International being just around the corner gives Valve even more reasons to bring something new to the table.

Tfue explains why Valorant will not be able to overtake CSGO

3

Riot’s tactical FPS game “Valorant” opened their closed beta for a few selected regions on the 7th of April and since then it has managed to create a lot of buzz among the fans throughout the world. With popular streamers and influencers from platforms like Twitch, YouTube and Mixer promoting the game, the game has really garnered a lot of popularity for its unique agents and their abilities and for everything that the game has to offer to its fans.

People from the video gaming community are discussing how far Valorant can go in terms of popularity when going against the likes of Counter Strike: Global Offensive, Valve’s FPS that has broken many records since its release in 2012.

Fortnite pro player Turner “Tfue” Tenny kept forward his opinion regarding Riot’s Valorant and why it is likely to overtake an FPS game like CS:GO in terms of popularity. As per him, “Valorant’s like a more casual CS:GO”. “If you wanna die to fking air-strikes, go play fking Valorant. If you fking wanna actually play a game that takes fking true skill, play CS:GO.”, he further added.

In a game like CS:GO players rely on their gun skills, positioning, and game sense, however, in a game like Valorant, a lot depends on the agent’s abilities and ultimate ability as well and not just only on the combat skills of a player. Tfue went on to say that, “I mean the game’s good – I think it’ll do well. I just don’t see it being bigger, competitive wise, than like CS, you know… hit by a bow through a wall, GG p**sy. It feels smooth though, and aiming engagements are good. It can just be frustrating at times.”

Tfue then highlighted three major issues he has with Valorant by saying that, “The problems I have with it are that it’s too repetitive, it’s not fun to watch, and I feel like the abilities are not balanced. It was kinda like how Overwatch was at the start.”

Despite the criticisms, Tfue went on to say that he believes that the game will be really successful but it needs improvement in many aspects of the game. Do you agree with Tfue? Let us know in the comments section below!

“Words can’t express how crazy today was. We ended the stream at $658,730.57. I am so emotionally overwhelmed but I have nothing but love and gratitude to all of those who donated and made such a huge difference today. I love you all, thank you! ♥️” read his Instagram post.

McLoughlin was formerly associated with several fundraisers in the past, and in general, is looked upon as one of the kindest personalities in the YouTube community. He is often seen making comedy content with other YouTube stars like Markiplier and PewDiePie, and the trio is considered as close mates off camera.

Jacksepticeye announced a few days ago about his charity stream which will be aimed at helping the COVID relief forces with financial support. The 12 hour stream generated around half a million dollars, and him putting in a $100000 resulted in a sum of $654,884.10.

Sean’s efforts as it seems were not in vain, he alone was managed to generate such big numbers which was essential now more than ever. His commendable effort was made successful with the help of the community members who shared his vision and decided to lend a hand in making his stream a grand success.

How to bunny hop in Valorant

1

Bunny hopping usually known as strafe-jumping can be practiced by the players in Valorant by synchronizing their aim placement while moving sideways using your “A” and “D” keys.

The method created by Jack Dice showcases the players how to get in a good hop to dodge some of the abilities of the agents such as Sage’s slowing orb in Valorant. After entering the Practise Range, Jack showed how to pull this movement off by holding your “W” key to go forward until you reach a full sprint and then continue jumping while altering your viewpoint looking left or right with “A” and ‘D” keys respectively.

Jack_Dice posted a 1 minute guide on reddit for beginners for learning the technique of bunny-hopping. He even outlined the main points that can help players improve their cross-hair placement and accuracy.

Another user “Jhad31” noticed that holding “W” is not required. He observed that learning this technique without holding “W” as a training wheel can allow the players to do bunny-hops sideways and even backward freely. Learning how to strafe-jump is really important in tactical FPS games as it increases your chances of beating your opponents with respect to close angles and also helps in escaping in dire situations during a fight. CSGO Source 2 speculation just got a little hyped with an incoming unknown map

The CS:GO fans and community are getting hyped as they await a massive Source 2 update for the game. Players have waited years for Valve to implement their Source 2 engine in CS:GO and finally the dream is close to coming true. Leaks have suggested that it is only a matter of weeks before Valve pushes for a massive Source 2 engine upgrade for their signature FPS game, CS:GO. This will definitely not be the first time that Valve has had their existing Source 1 game updated to Source 2, back in 2015 they had updated DOTA 2 to the Source 2 engine by rolling out the DOTA 2 Reborn update. The speculated Source 2 upgrade for CS:GO seems more real as competing games like Valorant come closer to their full release. It is expected that the CS:GO developers will drop the update in an effort to retain the player base of the game and keep them well engaged.

A lot of hints have been dropped by Valve which might point to the speculations being true but nothing has been confirmed officially, as of yet. On 9th April, Valve released a compatibility update for nine of its active maps namely: Anubis, Dust 2, Chlorine, Mirage, Inferno, Office, Train, Overpass, and Vertigo. It is a rare phenomenon when a bulk number of maps receive tweaks in one single update, and this can be a direct hint that Valve might be preparing them for some the major upcoming port. But, in the end of the day it is all just a speculation and the update might simply be lighting and bug fixes for the mentioned maps as many users have pointed out.

Regardless, with everything coming together and hinting at Valve’s next major update we are definitely up for a ride on the hype train.
