GTA 6 has not even launched, and it is already in record territory. Data firm Sensor Tower estimates the game has passed 7.71 million pre-orders, worth about $751 million, with roughly two weeks to go before release.
That number on its own is hard to picture. So we lined it up against two other huge launches, Cyberpunk 2077 and GTA 5, to see where it actually stands.

How many copies of GTA 6 have been pre-ordered?
About 7.71 million, according to Sensor Tower’s estimate. These are not official figures. Rockstar Games and Take-Two Interactive have not shared any pre-order numbers, so this is a data firm’s model of the market, and it may not fully account for cancellations.
| Platform | Estimated pre-orders | Share | Estimated revenue |
|---|---|---|---|
| PS5 | 5.74 million | 74% | $559 million |
| Xbox Series X|S | 1.97 million | 26% | $192 million |
| Total | 7.71 million | 100% | $751 million |
We have been following the numbers from the start on our GTA 6 pre-orders tracker, and our earlier report covers when pre-orders first passed $750 million.
How does GTA 6 compare with Cyberpunk 2077?
Cyberpunk 2077 is the usual benchmark for pre-orders. CD Projekt said the game had about 8 million pre-orders before its December 2020 launch. GTA 6 sits just under 300,000 short of that, with two weeks of sales still to come. Unless something unusual happens, it should pass Cyberpunk before launch day.
There is a key difference. Cyberpunk launched on PC as well as consoles. GTA 6 is console-only for now, which makes its number even more striking.

How does GTA 6 compare with GTA 5?
GTA 5 earned more than $800 million in its first 24 hours in 2013, according to Take-Two. GTA 6 is already close to that in pre-order revenue alone, before a single copy has been played. Analysts at Piper Sandler expect around 45 million sales across the launch window.
| Game | Benchmark | Figure |
|---|---|---|
| GTA 6 | Pre-orders (Sensor Tower estimate) | 7.71 million |
| Cyberpunk 2077 | Pre-orders (CD Projekt) | About 8 million |
| GTA 5 | Day-one revenue (Take-Two) | Over $800 million |
When does GTA 6 release?
GTA 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar Games. Official sales figures will most likely arrive in Take-Two’s next earnings report, and that is when we will know how close these estimates came.
