Grand Theft Auto VI is now 16 days from launch, and the final stretch has turned from waiting into planning. Rockstar Games has confirmed that pre-loading opens on November 12, a week before the November 19 release on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Meanwhile, a widely shared PS5 data tracker has put the download at 210GB, and boxed copies will not include a disc at all. Out on the streets, Miami has been dressed up as Vice City for weeks. At the same time, the community is mourning Jerry Fort, the fan who went viral in August with his hope of living long enough to play the game.
GTA 6 pre-load opens November 12 for digital and boxed copies
According to Rockstar’s support page on editions and versions, pre-load “will begin at local midnight on November 12, 2026” for anyone who has bought the game digitally. The US PlayStation Store listing shows a seven-day pre-load for both editions and an unlock time of 05:00 UTC on November 19. That works out to midnight Eastern, or 9pm Pacific on November 18, although other regional stores may list different times, so players outside the US are better off checking their own listing.
Pricing has not moved since pre-orders opened in June, either. The Standard Edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate Edition $99.99, and every copy bought before November 20 comes with the Vintage Vice City Pack, while digital pre-orders also add a month of GTA+. Our GTA 6 release date guide has the full breakdown of editions and launch timing.
There is no disc in the GTA 6 box
Anyone planning to buy a boxed copy should know that it will not save them a download. Rockstar’s support page states plainly that “A disc will not be included in the box,” and the physical version holds a download code instead. Those boxed copies are due at retailers from November 12, which Rockstar says is timed to support pre-loading, so code holders can start downloading on the same day as digital buyers.
There is also no physical Ultimate Edition, although Standard owners can still buy the upgrade later through the PlayStation Store or Microsoft Store, where Xbox currently lists it at $20.
The 210GB download size has not come from Rockstar
The 210GB figure that has dominated countdown chatter comes from PlayStation Game Size, a fan-run X account that tracks PS5 store data. It posted the size for the Standard Edition on October 27, and the post has since passed 36,000 likes.
Rockstar has not confirmed that number, and neither the PlayStation Store nor the Xbox store page currently lists a size. No comparable figure has surfaced for Xbox Series X|S at all. Even so, if the number holds, the game would take up close to a third of the 667GB that a launch PS5 leaves free for games. Players on older consoles may therefore want to clear space before November 12.
Demand for the game certainly is not in question heading into the final fortnight. As we reported, GTA 6 pre-orders hit an estimated $630 million before launch, and US PS5 sales rose 22% in September, according to our report on PS5 sales ahead of GTA 6.

Miami has been turned into Vice City before launch
The marketing push has spread across Miami and well beyond it. In September, a “Welcome to Vice City” sign was lifted by helicopter onto the roof of the Kaseya Center, home of the Miami Heat, as we covered when Rockstar reportedly spent $1 million on the sign. Then, on October 29, Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a further agreement worth about $4 million. According to local public radio station WLRN, it covers themed displays at Miami International Airport and PortMiami, along with wraps on traffic-signal cabinets across the county.
Elsewhere in the city, digital billboards in Wynwood are advertising fictional in-game brands such as Weazel News, and the Wynwood Walls museum has added murals by artists featured in the game. The Heat will also host A Night In Vice City against the Milwaukee Bucks on November 18, just hours before the game unlocks in the US. The game night will feature a themed court, a reimagined uniform and Burger Shot and Cluckin’ Bell stands inside the arena.
The campaign has not stopped at Miami, either. Hand-painted murals have gone up in Brooklyn, and a giant building wrap was spotted beside the Paris ring road in October. Sony is also running its own GTA 6 billboards in Tokyo as part of its PS5 advertising. In Paris, the historic Grand Rex cinema will also host a launch-night “Let’s Play GTA VI” event on November 19, with a streamer playing the game live on stage. Rockstar itself has not commented on the campaign publicly, and most details have come from city officials and partners rather than the studio.
Fans have kept their own countdowns running alongside all of this, with daily threads on the r/GTA6 subreddit marking each day left. Some are even planning time away from work for launch day, a question we looked at in our guide on taking time off work for GTA 6.
Why fans keep sharing GTA 6’s weapons-in-the-car feature
Gameplay details are also doing the rounds again, and one of the most shared is the ability to keep weapons in your car. It is not a new reveal, since Rockstar showed it in An Extended Look, the 26-minute gameplay video released on August 27. Previews that followed explained that spare outfits and any weapons you buy stay in your personal vehicle, which you can call whenever you need it.
Those previews also went into how many guns you can carry at once. Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson said players can always keep two concealed handguns on them, along with two long guns that stay visible on their back or in their hands. Non-player characters also react when a long gun is out in the open. The weapon wheel is back as well, after Rockstar reportedly spent a long time testing replacements before settling on it again.
Jerry Fort, the fan who hoped to play GTA 6, has died
The countdown has also brought sad news for the community. Jerry Fort, a 25-year-old who posted on TikTok as Void Only, died on October 29, his family said in a video posted to his TikTok account on November 2.
Fort became widely known in August, when he posted a video from an intensive care bed with the caption “I just want to play GTA VI. Rockstar and their delays, man.” The clip drew millions of views within days. His mother’s fundraiser, which says he had been living with interstitial lung disease since he was 17, has since raised more than $100,000.
Rockstar has not commented publicly on his death, although fans have been calling for a tribute to him in the game. News of his death trended on X on November 2, a sign of how far his story had travelled beyond GTA circles.
