GTA 6 Fan Jerry Fort Dies Three Weeks Before Launch, Months After His Viral Wish to Play It

Jerry Fort, the TikToker known as Void Only who went viral hoping to live to play GTA 6, has died, his family said. His GoFundMe passed $100,000.

Jerry Fort, the 25-year-old TikTok creator known as Void Only, has died. He went viral in August with a video from an intensive care bed, saying he just wanted to live long enough to play Grand Theft Auto VI. His family said in a video posted to his TikTok account on November 2 that he passed away on October 29, less than a month before the game’s November 19 launch.

The news spread quickly through the GTA community, and by the evening of November 2 his name was trending on X. Rockstar Games and its parent company Take-Two Interactive have not commented publicly on his death, although many fans have since called on the studio to honour him in some way.

An ICU video that reached millions of GTA fans

Fort first caught the attention of the wider gaming world on August 8, when he posted a TikTok from his hospital bed with the caption “I just want to play GTA VI. Rockstar and their delays, man.” The line struck a chord with players who had watched the game slip twice, first from its original fall 2025 window to May 26, 2026, and then to November 19, as our GTA 6 release date guide tracks.

Within days, the clip had picked up millions of views, and fan accounts on X were sharing it widely. Coverage soon followed in countries from France and Germany to Japan and Brazil, turning a personal post about a long illness into a story followed well beyond the GTA community.

In his own videos, Fort spoke openly about how serious his condition had become. He said his lungs “can’t do it no more” and that he was “at the end of my ropes.” He also explained that his lungs were attached to his chest wall, which would make the transplant surgery “very bloody, very dangerous.” Even so, he stayed hopeful, saying of his doctors that “they believe I will make it out the other side,” and he told followers he planned to stream GTA 6 once he recovered.

His family’s GoFundMe raised more than $100,000

On the same day as his viral video, his mother, Paris Fort, set up a GoFundMe campaign from Jacksonville, Florida. Titled “Help my son reach his lung transplant,” the page says he had been battling interstitial lung disease since he was 17, and it set an initial goal of $15,000 to support his care.

Support arrived far faster than that target suggested. Early reports in August put the total at around $50,000, and as of November 3 the page shows more than $101,000 raised from over 5,000 donors, more than six times what the family first asked for.

What his family said about his final weeks

In the video posted on November 2, his family said Fort died on October 29. According to accounts of the video, a severe infection weeks earlier had left his lungs filling with blood, and he had been placed on ECMO, a machine that takes over the work of the heart and lungs.

His family also said that on October 28 he told them he was ready to stop fighting, and that by the next morning a new infection had set in and his organs were shutting down. “He was at peace,” the family said, before thanking his followers for making his last few months beautiful.

Reports differ on whether Fort received the lung transplant before his death, and his family’s update has not been independently confirmed beyond the video on his account. However, the details it contains match what Fort and his mother shared publicly in August, from his age and the start of his illness to the hospital treatment he described.

Fans want Rockstar to honour Jerry Fort in GTA 6

Since the news broke, fans on X and TikTok have called on Rockstar to include a tribute to Fort in the game. Rockstar did not respond publicly to his August video either, and it has not said whether it plans to acknowledge him at launch.

Take-Two has reportedly stepped in quietly before, although nothing has ever been officially confirmed. Last December, a Ubisoft Toronto developer wrote on LinkedIn that Take-Two chief executive Strauss Zelnick had reached out about a relative with cancer who hoped to play GTA 6. He later posted that the family had “got great news,” before deleting the post entirely.

The game Fort was waiting for is now 16 days away. Pre-loading opens on November 12, and GTA 6 launches on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on November 19, three weeks to the day after he died.
