Grand Theft Auto 6 is shaping up to be one of the biggest downloads on PS5. The PS5 version is reported to need about 210GB, a figure first shared by the PlayStation Game Size account on X. Rockstar Games has not confirmed it yet, so treat it as a strong early estimate rather than the final number.
That figure means very different things depending on which PS5 you own. On a launch console it eats close to a third of your usable space. On a PS5 Pro, it barely registers.

How much PS5 storage will GTA 6 use?
We compared the reported 210GB size against the usable space on each PS5 model. Usable space is lower than the number on the box, because the system software takes its share first.
| PS5 model | Advertised storage | Approx. usable space | Share taken by GTA 6 |
|---|---|---|---|
| Original PS5 (2020) | 825GB | 667GB | About 31% |
| PS5 Slim | 1TB | About 848GB | About 25% |
| PS5 Pro | 2TB | About 1.8TB | About 11 to 12% |
If you are on an original PS5 with a few big games installed, you will likely need to clear space. A 210GB install plus one or two other large games can fill the drive on its own. We put together a guide on how to free up PS5 storage for GTA 6 without deleting your games, which covers extended storage and moving PS5 games to an M.2 SSD.
How long will GTA 6 take to download?
Speed matters as much as space here. Based on the reported 210GB, here is roughly how long the download takes at common connection speeds, before any slowdown from busy servers on launch week.
| Connection speed | Approx. download time |
|---|---|
| 1 Gbps | About 28 minutes |
| 100 Mbps | About 4 hours 40 minutes |
| 50 Mbps | About 9 hours 20 minutes |
| 10 Mbps | Close to 2 days |
This is why the pre-load window matters. If you bought the game digitally, starting the download as soon as pre-load opens is the easiest way to avoid waiting on November 19. Our explainer on GTA 6 pre-load times for every region has the unlock times.

Will the Xbox version be the same size?
Rockstar has not shared the Xbox Series X|S size yet. Large cross-platform games usually land in a similar range on both consoles, so Xbox owners should plan for something close to 200GB as well. Xbox Series S owners have the least room to work with, with roughly 364GB of usable space.
When does GTA 6 come out?
GTA 6 releases on November 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, according to Rockstar Games. There is still no PC release date. Day-one patches can also add to the final size, so leaving a little extra room on top of 210GB is a safe call.
