League of Legends players raise $6 million for charity through Riot Social Impact Fund

League of Legends players have raised $6 million for regional charities thanks to the Riot Games Social Impact Fund.

Riot announced the drop of their 1000th League Of Legend skin back in December, the Dawnbringer Karma launch which was followed by another generous announcement. Riot promised to donate the proceeds from the sale of the skin to social impact funds.

Since the launch, the studio has been able to raise an astounding sum of $6 Million, with the help of the players. The company has left it in the hand of the players with an open poll, where they get to decide three nonprofit organizations who will receive the donation. The winning organization of the poll will receive 50% which translates to $3 Million, while the 2nd and 3rd placed organizations will get 25%, i.e. $1.5 Million each. The poll will take place between the 10th and 23rd of April 2020.

“At the end of the voting window, the local nonprofit who has the most votes will receive 50% of their regional charity pool and the other nonprofits will each get 25% of the regional charity pool. We’ve guaranteed a minimum grant of $10,000 USD for each nonprofit. Being a global company enables us to approach social impact with a global mindset. A key part of that is allowing players to have agency in selecting to support what matters most to them. We hope to learn a lot from this approach and look forward to continuing our journey forward together.” said Riot in their official statement.

Players will be able to vote by logging in to their League Of Legends client, where they will choose the organization in their region which they think are “doing the most meaningful work for their communities”.
