5 Unique Yet Impactful Esports News That Hit The Industry in 2021

0

Over the past few years, esports has only become a stronger force in the video game world. In size, revenue, and fame, the industry has blossomed.

As 2021 starts to unfold, there are some pieces of industry news that are giving fans a peek into what the future of esports might be like. From Riot Games making big moves to mobile games changing the market, there is so much going on in the esports world that could evolve the scene.

Valorant Masters Event

Valorant (from Riot Games) came out last year as a burgeoning, quickly popular multiplayer shooter. It fits a perfect niche between Overwatch and CS:GO, where top-notch FPS players use superhero abilities to shoot out enemies and capture or defend points.

Valorant was a game-changer last year because it snatched away top players from Overwatch and CS:GO, but this year it will only cause even bigger waves for Riot Games.

Not only will the Valorant Masters Event possibly catapulting the game to the top of the esports charts, but it could also possibly prove that Riot (who already run LoL, one of the most popular esports MOBAs) can be a leader in multiple esports genres. With rumors of Riot making a new fighting game, this could be just the beginning of their company becoming a multi-genre competitive gaming powerhouse.

DOTA 2 Prize Money

DOTA 2 is really looking to set records in 2021. Every year, it seems they try to make their grand tournaments bigger and better, and 2021 is no different.

In 2019 DOTA 2 held their Internationals and set a new record for the largest prize pool in esports history: $34 million. Before that, they pushed the record higher for several years straight.

Breaking all previous records, DOTA 2 plans to offer up $40 million for the International this year.

Tournament events are always a ton of fun, so don’t miss any new esports events by keeping up with the Weplay Esports events calendar. In the coming months, WUFL, the Dragon Temple, and more will entertain esports fans across the globe.

Clash Royale Finale Prize Pool

Even among esports, mobile gaming has never been taken all that seriously. However, it’s clear that the brains behind esports don’t quite agree. Over time, mobile gaming tournaments have been growing bigger and bigger, from mobile PUBG to the upcoming LoL Wild Rift, which is already one of the most popular mobile esports in Asia (its demo region).

The Clash Royale Finale prize pool this year is set to be a whopping million dollars, proving that mobile gaming has a place in esports. And that it can become just as big as the other popular esports genres out there.

Philadelphia Eagles and the Esports Entertainment Group

Heading into 2021, esports is continuing to evolve more and more into the mainstream. One of the most influential and telling signs of this is the news that the Philadelphia Eagles are building an Esports Entertainment Group under their organization.

They first announced it in December of 2020, but since then, other deals have solidified their momentum, making it an ongoing story that’s changing esports into 2021. For example, the New England Patriots and Revolution have announced that they’ve signed a deal with Philedalhpia’s EEG to use their images for promotional material for esports events.

It means that EEG is taking their business move seriously and will continue combining traditional sports with esports to create a whole new platform.

New Business Model for Esports Teams

Esports teams have always relied on sponsorships, advertisements, and viewership to fund their business ventures. However, 2021 sees a very official swing into more specific brand deals.

Now, esports teams are becoming brand ambassadors and getting decked out in full sponsorship gear. Think of players like how NASCAR cars look. This can apply to everything from drinks to uniforms to computers. For example, if a team is sponsored by Corsair, you better believe that they are completely decked out with all their gaming tech (and only their gaming tech).

This was already a popular way of team financing, but as esports become more popular, the trend will only grow. This year, the clothing brand Tokyo Time has become sponsor of the esports gaming group, Misfits, creating a multi-year deal with them.

CSGO Pros Unhappy With Epic League’s No Delay GOTV Stream

The Epic League is under fire from several CSGO pros after it was revealed that they were streaming the Epic League 2021 CIS RMR events’ matches on GOTV live and without any delay.

Not to mention the fact that there was no anti-cheat system, TeamSpeak records, and no replays available of the tournament matches. Furthermore, teams that were in the 5-6th place allegedly had no prior info about future matches.

All these factors have led to an outburst in the CSGO community against Epic League.

Many professional CSGO players including the likes of AWPing legend Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev have raised their voices against Epic League regarding the issue.

You can read the detailed statement by Russian CSGO star Aleksandr “Zorte” Zagodyrenko on the issue here.

S1mple has also expressed his dissatisfaction with Epic League through a Tweet posted on May 30th.

“Epic League : no anticheat, no TeamSpeak record, no replays, no info about future matches for 5th-6th place,” the 23-year-old said.

The incident has left CSGO fans questioning the competitive integrity of one of the biggest CSGO events this year, and Valve has yet to respond to the situation.

How to upgrade your support staff in esports organizations?

When organizations hire an employee, they look for various aspects in their prospective candidate. Esports support staff are no different. In fact, in esports, other than the players, the staff has to upgrade their skills every day long. One thing that is given the most attention is the education, training, or knowledge about the job role.

This is mainly true for those roles that require a certain level of expertise to perform. The candidates often come across a list of such qualities mentioned in the job requirement by organizations. Take the position of an editor, for example. The candidates will be required to have developed expertise in editing copies.

These are hard skills. The skills that get the job done for organizations. The skills are developed via apprenticeships, certification programs, colleges, or on-the-job training. A few examples include process management, data interpretation, data analysis, computer skills, search engine optimization, and UX design among many.

Unlike your behavior or communication capabilities, you can measure the hard skills in a quantifiable way.

From written tests to verbal questions during an interview, there are several ways for organizations to test the hard skills of the prospect. Once selected, there are many organizations that find ways to further help employees improve their hard skills with several training sessions.

Here is how you can achieve the same for your employees.

Conducting education training

The first and foremost is definitely nurturing the current hard skills and making sure they are more refined. By hosting training sessions, you can be sure about the quality of hard skills that your employees will bring to the table.

With learning management software, a cloud-based platform, you can create, execute, and track these training sessions. Why opt for a digital tool? Because it will help you understand exactly where your employee stands and how much of the bridge do you need to cover. After all, digital runs on data.

You can conduct assessment tests at the end of the training and make a note of where your employees stand. There are various LMS available with various features and pricing models. For instance, the Adobe Connect pricing model is subscription-based. You can pay one time and enjoy the tool for the rest of the year.

LMS is a great and cost-effective tool to conduct training sessions for improving the hard skills of employees.

Using various computer software

In modern times, it is a prerequisite to have basic computer knowledge. Almost every business operating in the world has been digitalized or is in the process of transitioning. You can encourage your employees to use various new computer software to work on their hard skills.

Take using Google Docs and Sheets, for instance. You can train your employees to use these tools and make collaboration easy. Also, if your employees are novices, you can teach them the use of emails and other digital communication tools that will make it easier for them to function in the organization seamlessly.

Encourage practicing

Just learning about new hard skills will not be helpful if your employees are not actually practicing it. Thus, make sure that your employees are taking out time to practice what they learn. It will help them get used to the various skills or tools.

They should also keep a track of their progress. This will help them understand where they stand and scout for areas of improvement. It will also make it easier for them to get their queries solved in real-time.

Offer constructive feedback

Feedback, good or bad, can help one immensely. It is constructive criticism that helps one realize where they lack and what needs to be improved. When you analyze the performance of your employees, be sure to be precise and explicit in your feedback.

Let them know what and how certain things can be improved. Offer them recommendations about the steps that they can take to master certain skills. This is how they will improve.

Conclusion

Everyone wants to grow in the organization that they join. Thus, it should be your priority to make sure that your employees are improving their hard skills and becoming more proficient in what they already know.

xQc finds Pokimane attractive

0

During an appearance on Ludwing’s show, xQc named Pokimane to be the Twitch streamer he finds attractive.

xQc appeared on Ludwig’s show as a couple with girlfriend and Adept, but that did not stop him from speaking his heart out. To his credit, Lengyel was always known to create drama from his eccentric comments but one can’t blame him for sharing his true feelings.

To no one’s surprise the clip went viral on all over internet before it finally reached Pokimane. In the clip, xQc can been seen taking his time to answer, when asked about who he finds the most attractive on the Amazon’s streaming platform. With all eyes on him, including his partner Adept, xQc did not shy away from taking Pokimane’s name.

<iframe src=”https://clips.twitch.tv/embed?clip=BlightedGentleRadicchioRedCoat-jU6hflb7UM8I20Lg&parent=www.talkesport.com” frameborder=”0″ allowfullscreen=”true” scrolling=”no” height=”378″ width=”620″></iframe>

When it eventually reached Pokimane, it did not take long for him to come up with a witty response. Imane appreciated xQc for the praise before she named his partner Adept to be her crush.

In no time, Pokimane brushed it off as a joke and would like to keep it that way to prevent any rumors or unnecessary escalation of comments that were made only as a pun.

Minecraft YouTuber Dream explains his apology

0

After months of dismissing accusations of cheating, Dream has explained what made him come clean and apologize to his fans, instigating some serious drama.

His case seemed to have been collecting dust and the community was so close to forgetting about it altogether, just when Dream surprised everyone with an unannounced apology, accepting all the allegations and sending waves across the Minecraft community, given he is one of its biggest names.

He admitted to cheating during his speedruns and pawned it off on ignorance as he claims to unaware of the active drop rate plugin.

“The speedrun that was removed for being invalid from 7 months ago was on my Twitch, with donations off, I’m not even partnered on twitch, and was never uploaded anywhere on any of my channels. I didn’t make a dime or gain a single view or subscriber off of it.

“Yet it’s my “crowning achievement”, of which was never mentioned anywhere on any of my platforms except for a single tweet on my 2nd Twitter account. It was also the lowest placing run that I had ever submitted. It had very little to do with my content if anything at all.

“That doesn’t change anything from the speedrun perspective, the speedrun community is a very strict one and that’s a super good thing. Just pointing out that it had absolutely nothing to do with my actual content or Youtube, and was just a for fun thing.

“Criticism is deserved if anybody makes mistakes, even if they are unintentional. No one is immune to criticism. I could have said nothing at all and continued on, but I chose to say something because I felt it was the right thing to do. I’m glad that I did

“I have always played for fun for 11 years and that’s why all of my videos are me and my friends goofing off playing Minecraft together. I’ll keep making the best content I can and I’ll keep growing as a person as I’ve always tried to do.

“If you want reasons to hate someone or to think someone is dishonest, you will find them with anybody. I’ll keep on spreading positivity. love u guys : )”

In short, Dream has taken all the blame upon him and asked for forgiveness. Given the fact that he is an entertainer, the community may chose to go easy on him. Coming clean by himself will help remedy damaged relationship with his admirers to some extent.

Better late than never, there is nothing holding him back as of late. This debacle by no means is career ending for him but is bound to leave a major impact. His fame can overshadow this drama in no time and the community will move onto the next drama as the streaming community never fails to deliver on it.
