Netflix Is Making a Live-Action PUBG Series With Donald Glover

Netflix is developing a live-action series based on PUBG: Battlegrounds, and Donald Glover is attached to write, direct, executive produce and star in it. Krafton, which owns the game, and Netflix announced the project on 29 October.

Glover created and starred in Atlanta, which won him two Emmys and two Golden Globes. He is also known for Community and Amazon’s Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and he records music as Childish Gambino. His brother Stephen Glover, a writer on Atlanta, will write and executive produce the PUBG series, Gematsu reported.

The other executive producers are Michael Schaefer for NEON TV, Fam Udeorji for Glover’s company Gilga, and Taeseok Jang and Sujin Lee for LV3H. LV3H is Krafton’s entertainment arm, the new name for what used to be its PUBG Entertainment unit.

The scripts haven’t been written yet, according to What’s on Netflix, which also says LV3H is involved in both development and production. Neither company has shared plot details or any cast beyond Glover, and What’s on Netflix doesn’t expect the show on the service before 2028 at the earliest.

The game gives writers little to adapt. PUBG drops up to 100 players onto an island to scavenge for weapons until one player or squad is left, so the show will need characters and a story of its own.

Krafton’s second try

Krafton has tried to bring PUBG to the screen before. In July 2021 it hired Adi Shankar, the producer of Netflix’s Castlevania, to make a PUBG anime, Hypebeast reported at the time. That project has gone quiet since, and the new announcement doesn’t mention it.

PUBG is still Krafton’s biggest business. The franchise drove the company to record revenue of â‚©3.33 trillion in 2025, Krafton said in February. On phones, Krafton’s India-only BGMI has passed 260 million downloads, TechCrunch reported in September. The PC game keeps adding features, including an AI teammate in its Ally Duo beta, and PUBG has also been added to the Esports Nations Cup.

Netflix’s list of game adaptations is getting longer. It includes a live-action Assassin’s Creed series that has finished filming and a Gears of War film that is still being written, according to What’s on Netflix.
