The latest Counter-Strike 2 update was a big one. Not only did it introduce a batch of new content to the game alongside some crucial bug fixes, but it also laid the foundation for an upcoming addition that might just change the game forever.
On the surface, the October 28 CS2 update adds brand-new “mutators” to the game alongside other improvements like 109 silent reload animations, a silent reload setting, and some fixes. These “mutators” are effectively game modifiers that can alter the classic game modes in a variety of fun ways. With today’s update, the “Big Head” mutator has been added to the Casual mode of CS2.
However, hidden deep within the game files, dataminers have managed to uncover something much more interesting that could potentially be added to CS2 in the near future and could have a profound impact on the game’s competitive meta.
New CS2 Update Leaks LAR Weapon
Shortly after the October 28 CS2 update went live, dataminers managed to dig into the game files to find references to a brand-new weapon that’s not currently in the game.
The new weapon, which has been named “LAR” in the game files, appears to be a lever-action rifle with tremendous damage output. The weapon icon for the LAR that’s currently in the CS2 game files is similar to a classic Winchester rifle, but it’s likely to just be a placeholder.
Prominent CS2 dataminer “Gabe Follower” shed further light on the leaked game files and shared insights on how the upcoming weapon might play out in a recent YouTube video.
According to the leaker, the LAR appears to be a lever-action rifle with a five-round capacity, requiring you to work the lever after each shot and reload once the magazine is empty. It also seems to feature a holographic sight, and based on the config, its zoom looks similar to the AUG’s. Hipfire spread appears to be poor, so you’ll almost always want to scope in before shooting.
Gabe Follower also suggests the LAR has the same damage and armor penetration as the AWP, which could make it an extremely viable pick and a middle ground between the standard rifles and the AWP. The game files further indicate a price tag of $4,100, which is considerably cheaper than the AWP but pricier than the regular rifles.
CS2 LAR Weapon Stats Leaked
Here are the leaked weapon stats of the LAR in CS2:

Note that none of the aforementioned stats have been confirmed by Valve so far, and are still extremely early leaks.
The exact numbers for the LAR, as well as its final weapon model, are highly likely to change before its official release in CS2. Be sure to take these early leaks with a grain of salt.
