GTA 6 boxes appear to be reaching shops, 12 days before the game launches. A Reddit user who says they work in retail in Germany posted photos of a sealed PlayStation 5 copy of Grand Theft Auto VI on Saturday, 7 November, under the title “First ‘physical’ copy arrived”. The images show a German edition with a USK 18 rating, and the uploader added that there were “many more to come”. Rockstar Games has not commented on the photos, but the case matches what the publisher has already said about boxed copies of the game.
The photos were posted to the r/GTA6unmoderated subreddit by u/IseeIceTea, and they spread quickly after CharlieIntel shared them on X. The poster said they could not open the box because of their job, and that it made no sound when they shook it. Asked whether a paper map was inside, they replied “I don’t think so”, while admitting that they had no way of checking. TalkEsport has not been able to verify the photos independently, although the packaging follows Rockstar’s official cover art and Germany’s rating rules closely.
What the GTA 6 PS5 box says on the front and back
The front of the case uses the multi-panel cover art that Rockstar revealed earlier this year, with Jason, Lucia and several other characters arranged around the Grand Theft Auto logo. The most important detail sits in a small strip near the bottom, which reads “Spiel-Downloadcode. Keine Disc enthalten.” That translates as “game download code, no disc included”, and it confirms that the German box follows the same code-in-box plan as other regions. A smaller footnote under the strip is too blurred to read in full in the photos.
The back of the box is far more revealing. A row of feature icons lists one player, online functions, in-game purchases and support for the DualSense controller’s vibration and trigger effects. Another icon marks the game as optimised for the PlayStation 5 Pro, while a storage label states a minimum of 230 GB. The case also carries a German version of Rockstar’s story blurb under the heading “Jason und Lucia”, along with the line “Willkommen in Vice City” and three in-game screenshots.
The German rating label adds more detail than a standard age badge. Its descriptors list graphic violence, criminal role models and drugs, and a separate line states that the game contains in-game purchases. The small print says the download code can only be used once, and that some features may require an internet connection and a registered Rockstar Games account, with a minimum age that varies. The web address printed at the bottom of the case is rockstargames.com/VI.

Why the 230 GB label and the online icon stand out
The storage figure on the box is higher than any number Rockstar has given so far. In its Newswire post on 3 November, the studio confirmed that pre-loading begins on 10 November, and the download has been reported at up to 212 GB depending on the console. Installing a game usually needs extra free space on top of the download itself, which could explain the 230 GB minimum printed on the case. Our guide to freeing up PS5 storage without deleting your games is worth a look for anyone already close to the limit.
The online functions icon has drawn even more attention from fans. Rockstar has not detailed an online mode for Grand Theft Auto VI, so the label has prompted speculation about a new version of GTA Online. The icon could just as easily cover features that need a connection, such as account sign-in or downloadable content. The in-game purchases label is less surprising, because Rockstar already sells an Ultimate Edition upgrade that boxed owners can add after redeeming their code.
When boxed GTA 6 copies go on sale, and what buyers get
Shops holding stock in advance would not be unusual, because boxed copies are not meant to reach buyers until 12 November. Rockstar’s support page on editions says code-in-box copies are expected for shipping and pickup from retailers from that date. Codes can be used as soon as they are received, so boxed buyers can join the pre-load, which opens at midnight local time on PS5 and at midnight GMT on Xbox on 10 November. The game itself unlocks for everyone on 19 November, as our GTA 6 release date guide sets out.
What is inside the box is limited as well. Rockstar Support confirms that “a disc will not be included in the box”, and that the boxed Standard Edition includes the game and the Vintage Vice City Pack. There is no physical version of the Ultimate Edition, although boxed owners can buy the upgrade from the PlayStation Store or the Xbox Store after redeeming their code. PlayStation codes are tied to the region of the buyer’s account, so a German box may not work on a PSN account registered elsewhere, while Xbox codes carry no region lock.
The German photos are also the clearest look yet at a final retail case. In September, we covered images of an earlier PS5 box that GamingBible reported was probably a display case for store shelves, since it carried a pre-order message. Several outlets, including TheGamer, have since reported that German retailer MediaMarkt has shown a GTA VI poster that will come with boxed copies. The retailer’s post did not show the back of the box or its contents, however.
Demand for the game is enormous even without a disc in the box. Sensor Tower estimates have put GTA VI pre-orders at more than $750 million, and the countdown has spilled into the real world, from a Brooklyn mural to a Greensboro police post that went viral this week. Grand Theft Auto VI launches on 19 November, and Rockstar’s official site lists it only for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
