The first images of the GTA 6 physical copy for PlayStation 5 have surfaced online. The case confirms what Rockstar Games said back in June: there is no disc inside, only a download code.
The images were shared on X by GTA 6 Countdown, an account that tracks Rockstar news. According to the post, the box has been sent to multiple stores. It shows the front cover, the back cover, and the retail text printed on the case.
What the GTA 6 PS5 box shows
The front of the case uses the multi-panel cover art Rockstar released earlier this year. The panels show Jason, Lucia, other characters, and vehicles from the game.
The most important line on the box reads: “Game box will contain digital download code. No disc included.”
This matches Rockstar’s official plan. A physical copy of GTA 6 is a code-in-box product. You buy a case, open it, and redeem a code to download the game to your PS5.
The back of the box carries the official story description:
Vice City, USA. Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America…
It also tells buyers to order before November 19, 2026 to get the Vintage Vice City Pack.
No map listed in the box
The box does not mention a paper map. Grand Theft Auto games have included a fold-out map in physical releases since GTA III in 2001. Rockstar has not confirmed whether GTA 6 will include one.
A map was also missing from a recent release. The 2025 physical edition of GTA V for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S shipped with only the disc and no map, according to unboxing footage from that launch.
Is this the final box design?
It may not be. The front of the leaked case has a large “pre-order now” message. GamingBible, which first reported the images, said the case looks like a display box for store shelves rather than the retail copy buyers will take home.
Retailers often use display cases like this to promote pre-orders in stores. The final retail box could look different. The part of the design least likely to change is the no-disc notice, since Rockstar has already confirmed the code-in-box format.

Why GTA 6 has no disc
Rockstar confirmed the no-disc format in June, before pre-orders opened on June 25. We covered the first reaction in our report on the GTA 6 physical copy shipping without a disc.
Reports have linked the decision to two factors:
- Leak prevention. Physical discs reach stores before launch, and early copies can lead to spoilers online. A code that unlocks on release day removes that risk.
- Equal preload access. A code lets boxed buyers preload from November 12, the same as digital buyers.
Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said on the company’s August 7 earnings call that more than 90% of its business is already digital. He compared boxed games to vinyl records in music: still available, but no longer the main format.
Will GTA 6 get a disc version later?
Nothing is confirmed. In June, a Rockstar Support email sent to some customers said a physical copy would be available “during the following months.” It did not use the word “disc,” and it may have been an automated reply.
Polish outlet PPE.pl reported that a disc version could arrive in December 2026, citing the leaker Graczdari. Rockstar and Take-Two have not announced a disc edition. Until they do, the only GTA 6 physical copy is the code-in-box version.
