Bren Esports owner wanted in connection to drug smuggling case

Update: Bernard Chong – the owner of Bren Esports – has been cleared of drug smuggling charges by a court ruling. The Manila Regional Trial Court had previously implicated Chong in a drug smuggling operation at the Manila International Container Port, issuing a warrant for his arrest. However, the recent court ruling has now overturned this decision, clearing Chong of all charges.

Bernard Chong, creator, and owner of Bren Esports is wanted by the NBI for his alleged involvement in a shabu (methamphetamines) smuggling case worth $1.87 billion Philippine pesos ($33.6 million).

The investigation into the illegal transport of narcotics at the Manila International Container Port in the Philippines began in 2019. As one of the proprietors of Fortuneyield Cargo Services Corporation, which acted as the collector of the heroin shipment, Chong is said to have a connection to the drugs investigation.

The appeal was turned down on April 29, 2022, after which the arrest warrant for Chong was issued. The warrant was issued on June 2, 2021.

Joey Moran, the head of the NBI’s International Operations Division, told Bylyonaryo that drug smuggling is a very serious crime for which there is no bail.

The National Bureau of Investigation is tasked with locating and apprehending fugitives, regardless of the status of the individual.

As long as an arrest warrant is out for your head, you are going to be the focus of a manhunt. However, if Mr. Lu Chung turns himself in and faces the charges that have been brought against him, he can save everyone a lot of trouble.

In 2017, Chong established Bren Esports, which has since grown to become one of the most well-known esports organizations throughout the Southeast Asian region. Bren Esports has teams competing in a variety of games, including VALORANT and Wild Rift, among other

In addition to being the owner of Bren Esports, Chong is also the founder of the social media platform Lyka and the shoe brand World Balance. He is also the franchise owner for the Philippine location of the Canadian fast food giant Tim Hortons.

CSGO Patch Notes: Matchmaking Ranks Resets And Tweaks Algorithm

CSGO just received a major update that has reset the matchmaking ranks of players across the globe. Valve pushed “multiple changes to the competitive matchmaking algorithm” in the game’s August 1 patch.

All players will have to win a game to see their new rank, which has likely changed a few tiers (for NA servers atleast).

Before the update, the CSGO matchmaking experience was abit of a meme for players stuck in low-skill groups as the game always struggled to match those in the lower-skill groups against equally skilled teams.

Often players stuck in “Silver Hell Hole” were getting matched against MG-tier or LE-tier teams. The experience was extremely bad in NA servers where the population of actively looking players had suffered drastically and was way lower than what we saw before Covid lockdowns hit.

However, Valve is once again trying to entice players to push for Global Elite in CSGO by making some major adjustments to the in-game competitive matchmaking algorithm.

“Typically when we ship changes to CSGO’s matchmaking system, the adjustments are small enough that we don’t include them in our release notes,” developers tweeted on August 1. “However, today’s update affects all CSGO players so it requires some explanation.”

“When you launch CSGO, you’ll notice that your Skill Group is not displayed–you’ll have to win one more match to reveal your Skill Group. Most of you will notice a change to your Skill Group, but some of you may find that you were already in the right place.”

NICKMERCS and Tfue wants to make cheating in games a criminal offense

0

Popular streamers NICKMERCS and Tfue has agreed to the idea of making cheating inside video games a criminal offense.

Cheaters have plagued several online games, including competitive and non competitive. Other than ruining the game for everyone else, this poses as a serious security threat and started having greater implications since gaming turned in a full time profession for many.

The gaming industry generates big numbers in terms of revenue that has been contributing to world economy. Any damage caused to this will have effects in the longer run.

Both Tfue and NICKMERCS have countless encounters with cheaters across the several games they play on a daily basis. Having to face cheaters can be frustrating and to repeat it everyday can take a toll on the players.

Cheaters ruin the experience and for those who play professionally or depend on it for their bread and butter are getting harmed. Many have agreed to Tfue and are willing to sign on the petition.

With the community seriously considering this, this Tweet from Tfue might yield something serious.

First Look Of Dr. Disrespect’s FPS Game Deadrop Released

0

Respected streamer and now a game developer, Dr. Disrespect has finally revealed the first look at Midnight Studio’s upcoming FPS game called Deadrop. Previously known as “Project Moon”, Deadrop is a vertical extraction shooter (VES) game that incorporates the use of non-fungible tokens or NFT.

Last week on Friday, Dr. Disrespect hosted a live event in Los Angeles where he revealed more details about “Deadrop” and unveiled the first look at the game. Disrespect had invited industry insiders to the event which also included some known esports organizations.

https://twitter.com/12am/status/1553194447755567104

If you’ve played games like Escape from Tarkov or Hunt: Showdown, then the upcoming game from Dr. Disrespect is going to feel extremely similar. However, Deadrop will be different from other games mentioned above due to its “vertical” twist and closed space combat. Instead of running around on an open map like Tarkov or Hunt, players have to face off against each other in the ruins of massive buildings.

Aside from the above difference, the game will also be the first to feature NFTs build right into the game. For months now the Founders Pass NFTs have been on sale. Those who purchased the Founders Pass NFTs had early access to the game when it was called “Project Moon”.

While the Founders Pass NFTs have all sold out (or maybe pulled down), according to Midnight Society new ‘Deadrop’ NFTs are still coming and will give access to future closed betas.

BGMI Is A BIG Cyber Threat To India, says Govt Officials

0

A central intelligence agency report and letter from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity) caused a ban on the popular battle royale game Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

The report discussed infractions that can cause cyber dangers by harvesting user data for profiling in order to carry out targeted cyberattacks on Indian users. These violations can occur when user data is harvested for profiling.

According to a high-ranking official in the government, the application has a number of problems, the most significant of which is that it communicates with servers that are either directly or indirectly situated in China.

A number of sources have also confirmed that additional apps that have undergone a “rebranding” process are connecting with servers located in China and are being investigated.

Following many iterations of investigation by Indian government entities, the decision was made to submit a request to Google requesting that the program be removed from the Play Store.

“The analysis also showed that this application has malicious code and also acquires a host of critical permissions,” a senior government official told News18 on the condition of anonymity. “This application could be misused for compromising user data for surveillance through camera/microphone, location tracking, and malicious network activities,” the official said. “The analysis also showed that this application acquires a host of critical permissions.”

“Apps like these are harmful to India’s sovereignty and integrity, and they pose a significant threat to the country’s national security infrastructure.” According to an official who works in Meity, who spoke to News18, “the inputs were shared with us, and prompt action was done without any delay from the administration.”

Although the official order to prohibit BGMI in India has not yet been issued, Meity has already begun the process by requesting that the software be removed from app shops such as Google Play.

After this, the firm will offer its side of the argument, and then the judge will make a final determination regarding the total ban.

The game’s developer, Krafton, has stated that it is actively striving to revive the project. The organization recently released a statement in which it stated that it is dedicated to the Indian market and is optimistic about the possibilities that exist in the country.

“Here at KRAFTON, protecting the personal information of our customers and respecting their right to privacy are two of our highest priorities. We have always been in compliance with all of the rules and regulations in India, including the laws and regulations governing the protection of personal information, and we will continue to adhere to them.

In the meantime, Google has confirmed that the company has been given an official order to remove the game from its platform by the authorities.

“On receipt of the order, following the established process, we have notified the affected developer and have blocked access to the app that remained available on Play Store in India,” it said. “On receipt of the order, we have blocked access to the app that remained available on Play Store in India.”

Is REBRANDING an option?

According to senior officials who are responsible for analyzing these applications, illegal Chinese apps have been renamed in India despite the fact that there is not a single server located in the country .

“These apps have re-launched in India simply like old wine in a new bottle, but they didn’t install any servers in India,” the company said in a statement. Additionally, they capture data like as location, audio, and access to other sensitive information, all of which have the potential to be exploited.

According to a senior government source, “BGMI is likewise a rebranded version of PUBG.” Even earlier, the government had prohibited the use of a few Chinese applications, which were afterwards renamed and distributed under new brand names.

The government of China, working through its many agencies, maintains a close watch on Chinese mobile applications and performs periodic evaluations on them.

Chinese mobile applications that, according to the government, breach a variety of Indian laws have been subject to a steady stream of bans. As cross-border tensions remain high, the Indian government decided to prohibit 54 new Chinese-made apps in February of this year, citing the fact that these apps represent a “threat to India’s security.”

The vast majority of them were imitations of apps that had been prohibited by the government in the wake of the conflict in Galwan Valley, but which had since been renamed and reintroduced in India in a stealthy manner.

The addition of 54 additional restricted apps brings the total to 324, including Tik Tok and PUBG (earlier version), which had to partner with Chinese enterprises due to the ban in India.

BGMI banned for communicating with Chinese servers: Report

BGMI getting removed from Google Play Store and Apple App Store sent shockwaves throughout India, unlike the last time, it happened without any prior warning.

A community of millions were left dumbfounded as no one had any clear knowledge of why it may have happened.

Sources have mentioned that the incident has something to do with the game being party to a potential cyber theft.

BGMI Is A BIG Cyber Threat To India

BGMI was reportedly banned following a report by the intelligence agency which prompted a letter from the Indian Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) to the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), informing them about the issue. The game was removed for precautionary purposes and a full-fledged ban is likely to follow suit.

According to News18, “The report talked about violations that can create cyber threats by harvesting user data for profiling to carry out targeted cyber-attacks on Indian users.”.

“The analysis also showed that this application has malicious code and also acquires a host of critical permissions, which could be misused for compromising user data for surveillance through camera/microphone, location tracking, and malicious network activities,” a senior government official told News18.

“Such apps are detrimental to sovereignty and integrity of India and can be very dangerous for the Indian security grid. The inputs were shared with us and immediate action was taken without any delay from the government,” an official working in Meity told News18.

The article further states that the developer KRAFTON is formulating a case in their defense which is the only thing that is holding up a permanent ban.

“At KRAFTON, the security and privacy of our user data are of utmost importance to us. We have always been compliant with all the laws and regulations in India, including data protection laws and regulations, and will continue abiding by them.” says the developer.

Rebranding or launching the game under a different corporate umbrella will not help them get out of this. With government cracking down on Chinese apps, it will be very difficult to penetrate the Indian market after this as long as the game has ties with China.
