The International Shuffle 2017; Drop & invite periods

The period before the TI is full of excitement and surprises for the fans as teams finalize their rosters to participate in the International.ย Post Kiev Major, Valve has announced dates and rules and accordingly all the teams have time until the 24th of May to work on their roster.

The International Shuffle starts off on May 3, and it has a two-step structure. Drop period followed by an invite period. All those who want to be eligible for an invite to The International 7 regional qualifiers or the main event must comply with the two step shuffle. They also must consider the time frame and have to keep their roster intact until after TI7. Of course, those who will fail to qualify for the biggest Dota 2 event of the year are free to start the post TI7 Shuffle at any time they want.

The International

Drop Period:

The drop period is currently open until May 16th at 00:00 PST. After that period teams won’t be able to remove players from their team anymore. Instead, they will be able to add new players to a team to a maximum of five. Players in teams that haven’t confirmed participation by May 16th at 00:00 PST will be dropped automatically.

Invite Period:

The second step is the invite, or the pickup period, which starts immediately after the drop window. During this period teams should issue their invites to the players to add them to The International 7 rosters. The Invite period will end on the May 24th, 00:00 PST. ย Any team which fails to lock their final players before the aforementioned date and time standย disqualified for TI 7. And eventually, will lose their eligibility for an invite. Any changes after that will also lead to losing eligibility for the invite.

The International 7 is set to be held over six days in August, from Monday the 7th to Saturday the 12th in the KeyArena in Seattle, Washington.ย You can check the invites and finalized rostersย on the official Valve website.

Why there will be no Wings Gaming at The International 7

Wings Gaming which was formed in August 2014 after The International 2014 by a group of Chinese pub stars alongside ex-Speed Gaming member yโ€™, bLink, Faith_bian and jdh and disbanded quite a few times. Wings Gaming at The International 7 will not be precisely relevant; And will be the first team to ever disband after winning TI!

Wings Gaming Company according to the Weibo post (Chinese Equivalent of Facebook), failed to recover through their League of Legends franchise. This ultimately cost the organization around $3 Million is total. To cover up from the loss, the organization were forced seek alternative measures.According to Reddit comment; the organization was demanding a 40% cut from the team winnings which eventually saw the entire Dota 2 roster leaving and forming a new team with the same roster under the banner of Team Random.

Wings Gaming at The International 7

Chinese question and answer website Zhihu stated Anna Zhang, an employee of Wings Gaming on her view on the rumors around misconduct leading to the team disbanding. While Anna was quick to point out that both sides were at fault and each involved person would have their own view of what went wrong behind the scenes, she did thoroughly deny the rumor that management took 40% of The International 6 prize pool.

Zhang put the number at 20% and said the other 80% is paid directly into the playerโ€™s accounts.

Wings Gaming at The International 7

There was a speculation that the organization sold the players is also in doubt with Zhang saying that Team Random, the team name that the former Wings players now play under, is not owned by any new organization. She explained that the players independently made this team continue competing for fans.

After Team Random failed to get through the lower brackets of the Kiev Major. There are speculations that they have disbanded or as some sources say they are taking a much-needed break. Either way, they will not be participating in The International 7 a first for defending champions and their direct invite slot will probably allot to another hopeful team.

These situations closely mirror the organizational mismanagement the drama that Jacky “EternaLEnVy” Maoโ€™s after writing a lengthy blog about Team Secretโ€™s management failings. “EternaLEnVy” then set up his own organization under the name Team NP and is the owner and captain of the team.

According to EternaLEnvy many players simply do not know how exploited they are from their management because they are, at the end of the day, just kids who are good at video games. The International 7 prizepool is breaking records already

2

For DotA fans, the most popular The International tournament is often considered the World Cup of eSports. Last year the International 2016 witnessed a Chinese team Wings Gaming take home the grand prize of US $9.14 million out of the total crowdfunded US $20.8million.

Every year Valve puts down US$1.6million as the base prize pool for the International, which is considered as the most prestigious Dota 2 competition in the world. But it’s the crowdfunding by the fans that boosts the major part of the prize pool. Purchasing an in-game item called as the Battle Pass raises the prize pool. Every 25% o the sale is added to the prize pool and players can also levelย up through purchase.

Within 2 hours of the Battle Pass going on sale, $ 2.3 million to the prize was added. And within 38 hours of the Battle Pass going on sale, just under $4 million has been the addition to the prize. At the time of writing the article the prizepool sits at USD $7,618,369. This is record setting pace, beating last year’s total at this point which was close to USD $6.5Million.

Sixteen of the best DotA 2 teams in the world will head out to Seattle Key arena to battle it out for the share of massive prize pool between August 7th and 12th.

Last yearโ€™s winners, Chinese team Wings Gaming, took home USD $9,139,002, while second place team Digital Chaos pocketed a still respectable USD $3,427,126.Even the teams that came last at the event last year still walked away with USD $103,852.

With the ย current rate of at which the prizepool is growing if predictions are right The International 7 will have the largest prize pool ever distributed at a single eSports event. And provided the prize distribution ratio remains same the winning team will take home UDS $10M from single event. With still 3 months left for the total might be significantly higher by then.

The qualifiers for The International are due to kick off on June 21st. The online open qualifiers mean that anyone can sign up, and with Dota 2 being a free to play which means there is literally no restriction on who can participate as long as you have a team of 5 players.Winning the open qualifier would advance you into the regional qualifier, and winning that would nab you at the place at The Internationalย 7 and guaranteed prize money.

Even though the scale of the tournament was not widely promoted across the globe, several foreign teams did play the Indian-organized and community driven online tournament with pleasure. X3 TCT, the best Srilankan Overwatch team was also one of the guests of the tournament joined by some Korean and Bangladesh teams.

The event was nothing sort of pumping up the Overwatch community which is considerably notional compared to the other competitive games in India. If you’re an Overwatch enthusiast and feel the same scarcity of events and other information about the game. You could head over to the largestย Overwatch India Community Facebook group which facilitated the event.

Overwatch is not yet the mainstream Esports title in the Indian fraternity. Other than the community-driven tournaments and get-togethers, NVIDIA came up with a unique idea which promoted the game and their certified cafes in different parts of the country. With big players entering into the development of Esports as a collective effort, the time is not very far when Overwatch will also see a tremendous growth judging by the time and effort the developers of the game have put into to acquire gamers by their liking and demands.
