NRG Esports co-CEO explains why CSGO esports scene is unsustainable

NRG co-CEO Andy Miller has explained why they left the CSGO scene at a time when they were at a peak, and sold the team to Evil Geniuses.

Evil Genuises recently bought out NRG, after the team saw their best results since their inception, including a Semi Final Finish at the Berlin Major. Since the takeover, the now EG team also won ESL One New York 2019 over Astralis.

In a discussion on Reddit, Miller told that the shift in dynamic in the scene to insane player salaries meant that the model was unsustainable in the long term.

“CS sale was gut wrenching. We built that team the right way over a lot of years. Really like the guys, but the space is crazy. Totally owners fault. 100%. Salaries are dumb. Too hard to even look at it as a loss leader. We want NRG to be around for a long time and current day CS model wasn’t going to help us get there,” he said in an AMA on Tuesday.

While the organisation has no plans right now of re entering the scene, their focus will be on their CoD team, which he claims are of championship caliber, and the francise based model of Activision will suit them.

Valve releases update for Counter Strike 1.6

Valve has released an update for Counter Strike. But, it’s not the one you probably assumed. Counter Strike 1.6 has received a minor update.

One of the pressing points of the update is the ability to toggle and control the display of money and health of players to teammates, opponents and the spectators.

sv_cheats is now only controllable by the server and will come as a huge relief to many players.

Other things that stand out in the update is the ones that have addressed the bugs regarding the weapons, with improvements and corrections done in UMP45 and Shotguns.

It is refreshing to see that Valve is still pounding out updates to improve the gameplay for Counter Strike 1.6.

After the likes of PUBG and Fortnite, it seems like CSGO also has support for mobile, albeit in a different way.

The Steam Link app enables anyone to play a game on their mobile devices, either using the touch screen controls or a game controller, by streaming the content from the PC.

This means that CSGO can be easily played on a handheld device. However, there are a number of issues with it, including a drop in frame rate at times and occasional screen freezes.

Even without any of the bugs, the game is virtually unplayable on a touch screen, considering that opponents are most likely to be on a PC and have better accuracy. Unlike PUBG Mobile, CSGO on mobile is simply a streamed version of its PC counterpart, so it does not have autoaim and the relative simplicity that native mobile games support.

Nevertheless, it is a good to have feature which has potential to be more refined and a support for a keyboard mouse combination, which will enable anyone with a mobile to play their favourite game.

FaZe Clan wins PUBG Europe League, EU’s PUBG Global Championship teams decided

FaZe Clan delivered an incredible performance in the final week of PEL Phase 3 as they took home two consecutive PEL in Phase 2 and Phase 3 after missing out on Phase 1. The team clinched 51 points in the final six matches to grab the first spot above Team Liquid.

On the final day of the tournament, Team Liquid trailing behind FaZe by 18 points for the top spot and on the bottom of the leaderboard, Digital Athletics, Raise Your Edge, Pittsburgh Knights and GamerLegion fought it out to avoid the last two spots of relegation. In addition to retaining title, FaZe Clan booked their spot at the PUBG Global Championship as PEL Phase 3 winners. Six slots are allocated in the European region, on account of their performance in previous global events, the other slots were allocated based on PEL Performance points, which were an aggregation of the points earned by teams in the second and third phase of PEL.

This phase also set a new record for the highest kills by a player in PEL, Adouz1e grabbing 138 frags to his name, beating the previous record of 130 kills set by Itzz_Chrizz of G2 Esports in the second phase. Sambty of Team Liquid and Ubah of FaZe Clan were second and third with 134 and 132 kills respectively.

Europe’s representatives at the Global Championship are:

Putnam City schools launches largest esports program in the state

Students at Putnam City high schools can now enter darkened rooms, switch on a gaming console and make their sports dreams come alive.

The launch of esports at all three Putnam City high schools creates oen of the largest district-wide esports program in Oklahoma K-12 schools.

Students are gearing up for the OCU Esports River Rumble in downtown Oklahoma City this weekend.

The students are practicing at their new state-of-the-art facilities at each site, and they will play live this weekend in an unprecedented event.

Esports offers a team sport experience for students who might not be physically able to participate in other sports. Students who participate individually at home can use those skills in a team setting, building social bonds, community, and school spirit.

“We are excited about the possibilities for this new realm of competition and the scholarship opportunities it holds,” said Cory Boggs, Executive Director, Information Technologies at Putnam City Schools.

Along with Putnam City, 26 other Oklahoma high schools plan to compete against each other this year.

Students will play six available games such as Super Smash Bros., League of Legends, Overwatch and Clash Royale.

NiP and fnatic invited to StarSeries i-League Season 8

Fnatic and NIP are the latest teams to be invited to the StarSeries I-League Season 8, which will run from October 21-27, with a prize pool of half a million dollars.

The Swedes will be joined by the Brazilian pair of MIBR and Furia, as well as Renegades, Avangar, Heroic, Invictus and 5Power, with 6 more teams yet to be invited.

Fnatic are on a high after a surprise win at their homeground in Dreamhack Malmo, where they beat reigning Major Champions Astralis on their way to the title. NIP, on the other hand, are not in the best of shapes, having finished in the top 8 at Dreamhack Malmo, losing to the eventual champions Fnatic. They will also be without legendary player GeT_RiGhT, who left the roster after over 2500 days.

Astralis claim No.1 spot in HLTV CSGO World Rankings post DreamHack Malmo

Astralis have returned to the top of the World Rankings 4 months after being overthrown by Team Liquid.

The impressive form shown by the Danes in the past few months, including a championship at the StarLadder Major and good placements at ESL One New York and DreamHack Masters was in stark contrast to Liquid’s wretched form.

Having won 6 consecutive events, their past few results have been mediocre at best- with a group stage knockout at Malmo and a quarters loss at Majors largely contradicting their previous few months. The reports of NAF being considered to be benched have not helped them either.

With the difference now being only 75 points, the race at the top is anyone’s for the taking, with the Blast Pro Series Copenhagen baing the next event when we will see the two powerhouses compete again. They will also play the ESL Pro League during this time, where they will have more chances to catch up.

Call of Duty Mobile hits 35 million downloads 3 days after its release

Tencent’s newest masterpiece, Call of Duty: Mobile has surpassed 35 million downloads on both iOS and Android merely 2 days after its global launch. The game did not have a dream start as almost a few hours after its launch, an error was reported about the game freezing on its loading screen but it was quickly brought to the developer’s notice and was fixed in no time. Activision also tweeted out about the unexpected and high amount of traffic over the game’s servers which also caused some difficulties but now everything seems to be under control as the game runs butter smooth without any further issues.

Activision now boasts that COD: Mobile is ranked as number one on the App Store in more than 100 countries worldwide. The game supports both iPhone and iPad models along with Android devices. Rob Kostich, President, Activision had a few words to say:

“This is an incredibly fun experience, and we’re only getting started. Congratulations to the teams at Activision and at our partner Tencent’s TiMi Studios for making such a great game for players. And special thanks to our fans for their continued support.”

Sensor tower has estimated that within 2 days of its launch, the game has managed to generate a revenue of approximately $2 million (approx. 14 crores) for its developers with its record breaking 35 million downloads to add to its success. The par breaking feature of the game is that it offers a Battle Royale mode alongside its widely renowned 5 versus 5 multiplayer mode which attracted console players of the game to the mobile version.

We are excited to see the development of Call of Duty: Mobile’s own esports scene which would completely alter the course of Mobile esports and take it to a whole another level.

PUBG Mobile introduces 10 year ban for cheating

Hacking, walling, scripting or in one word, cheating has plagued the gaming world for eternity and Tencent seems to be stepping up to do something about it. Addressing one of PUBG Mobile’s biggest issue, Tencent has announced that players caught using unauthorized third party apps or hacks to gain an unfair advantage in game will face serious punishment in the form of a 10 year ban.

Cheating ruins the entire gaming experience for a player and not many developers address this issue with much sincerity. To curb this problem which haunts every player as soon as they enter a match, Tencent has introduced a set of rules and basic standards that every player needs to abide by to still be able to play the game.

Failure to abide by those rules or getting caught using a third party unauthorized software might just set you up with a 10 year ban. Players can report suspected hackers or cheaters using the game’s reporting feature, Tencent will then investigate the reports thoroughly and action will be taken. The ID’s and of confirmed cheaters will be regularly updated by Tencent and a list of cheaters has already been released with accurate details pertaining to the reason they were banned.

This is a great initiative as Cheaters have pulled down our industry for a very long time now. An enjoyable and fair gaming environment can only be achieved by dealing with the violators with utmost strictness.

Fnatic defeat Vitality to win DreamHack Masters Malmö

A new Counter-Strike champion has been crowned after six days of competition in Malmö, Sweden.

Fnatic are the champions of DreamHack Masters Malmö 2019 after defeating Vitality today 2-1 in the grand finals. They won $100,000 and scored their first point toward the Intel Grand Slam, as well as a direct invite to participate in IEM Katowice 2020.

Earlier in the tournament, they swept Astralis 2-0 on Overpass and Nuke in the semifinals, while Vitality stomped Natus Vincere 2-1 on Overpass and Dust 2 shortly after.

Spanning three games, the final took place on Dust 2, Inferno, and Mirage—all maps both teams are comfortable playing., a fact that became obvious as each game featured some palpable tension.

Vitality won Dust2 16-14 after Fnatic failed to find their momentum during the match. Jesper “JW” Wecksell grabbed 24 kills and got a 1.21 rating.

Inferno, on the other hand, was a closer fight. Fnatic were 15-9 ahead but lost their nerve after Vitality avoided elimination with only a force buy. The game went to overtime and Fnatic won it 25-23 as JW and Krimz shined with 30 and 28 kills respectively. This loss may be tough for ZyWOo, since the Vitality’ star finished with an outstanding 30 frags.

Fnatic continued their momentum, they managed to win the third map after a grueling back and fourth between the two sides. Fnatic star, Brollan single-handedly won the final round for fnatic after killing three frenchmen with just a CZ-75, concluding the game 16-13.
