NBA 2K20 becomes 2019’s highest selling game in a Month

0

The NPD group, an American market research firm revealed this months game market data and concluded that NBA 2K20 is the top selling video game not just for this month but for all of 2019 (till date).

The game was launched on September 6th, 2019 and has set a new milestone for monthly sales achieved by video games. It dethroned Mortal Kombat 11 as the year’s best selling title and to make things sweeter, Take Two Interactive’s NBA 2K series became the sixth best selling video game franchise ever.

September 2019 can be called as the month of sports games as FIFA 20, Madden 20 and NHL 20 made the month’s top ten sellers list. Surprisingly, NBA 2K20 does not score well when it comes to reviews and public opinion. The game received massive backlash on social media and was hated upon with players highlighting critical issues and bugs with the game’s design.

Out of the 3,700 user reviews on steam, not so surprising 85% are negative reviews. It is being called as the worst NBA 2K title as well as the second worst video game title on steam, the first spot being taken by Flatout 3. Fans are not happy with the micro-transactions in the game and complain about lack of innovation and game-play improvements compared to past versions of the title. NBA 2K17 was the last title in the franchise which was blessed with positive user feedback.

It is interesting to wonder about the contrast between the game’s likeability and the numbers it puts up on the charts which clearly shows that despite heavy critiques, fans will still put in money on games having a legacy behind them as well as are a little bit fun to play.

The story of the CSGO esports team where everyone is over 60

We have all probably dreamed of sitting across a PC 50 years later playing our favourite games and spending the last few years of our lives in pure bliss. There is a team who is doing exactly that, and they call themselves the “Silver Snipers.“

With the youngest member aged 62, the oldest player on the roster is 81 years young and the best part was that no one in the team had any previous experience of the game at the squad’s inception. The team from Sweden had been formed after an ad that called for senior citizens to join an esport team for a CS tournament at the Dreamhack digital festival in Sweden.

Coached by former CS pro Tommy “Potti” Ingemarsson, the snipers underwent 3 weeks of intensive training for the tournament. Do note, that they did not have ANY experience of playing video games, let alone that of a FPS shooter like Counter Strike, where it takes weeks just to get accustomed to the basic controls.

The training started with the basics of CS, the controls, settings and what actually was the aim of the game. The group took these sessions very seriously and even got printouts of the keyboard layout for them to memorize it faster. They were very serious about it, and even asked a range of questions to improve their game sense and their aiming.

The reason why they chose CS was because it was the easiest game to pick up among the ones with a steep learning curve like Overwatch or DOTA. They did not have a good showing at their first tournament, winning a single round in 2 matches against more experienced opponents, but that has not dampened their spirits. โ€œItโ€™s all fun to play for me and my teammates; winning is a bonus,” said Olivind “Windy” Toverund.

I would just say, GO FOR IT! You have nothing to be afraid ofโ€”the gaming community is not an excluding community.

Their hardwork did pay off in summer this year after they won the Seniors World Cup against Finland, USA and Germany at DreamHack Summer 2019, beating Grey Gunners in the finals. Windy has some encouraging words for the older gamers as well.

GTA 6 might be coming soon

7

GTA VI is probably the most awaited title of all time following the massive success of its predecessor GTA V. Rockstar games has not revealed much but numerous leaks have surfaced on the internet owing to the sheer hype surrounding this game. According to Steven Ogg, the man who brought Trevor to life with his voice, has said that fans can expect Grand Theft Auto VI to come out sooner than expected.

Many rumors surround the game but this piece of information given out by Steven Ogg seems to be the most believable pertaining to the release of the game. Steven appeared in a question and answer session at Brazil Games show 2019 where he revealed that GTA VI will be “out soon” and also added that ” Video games are usually developed between seven to eight years โ€” you do the mathโ€

Steven Ogg is directly involved in the development of GTA VI and is surely bound by a non-disclosure agreement as a detail of his contract but such comments cite excitement among fans, eagerly awaiting the game’s release. A new set of consoles are all set to roll out in 2020 and it is also rumored that GTA VI will accompany the Playstation 5 which was announced by Sony on 8th October.

Official word from Rockstar Games is awaited but leaks and rumors lead us to believe that another installment in the iconic Grand Theft Auto series is on its way.

Have a throwback to CS 1.6 with the new CSGO Classic Knife

Soon after a massive teaser by CS:GO developers on twitter, the classic CS 1.6 knife was ported into CS:GO much to the liking and demands of the community and fans. The knife is a part of the CS20 weapon case which commemorates Counter-Strike’s 20 year anniversary. The case comes with a lot of skins which relate to the history of Counter-Strike over the years.

The new knife is not limited to its vanilla self from CS 1.6, it comes in a lot of patterns such as crimson web, fade and so on. Although patterned knives tend to hold higher price points over the vanilla ones, it is highly expected that the vanilla skin for the CS 1.6 classic knife will hold the highest price point in the market thanks to all the nostalgia it carries.

The case also features a lot of other skins which holds references to legendary plays, maps, prop designs, operations and so on.

The newly launched CSGO case skins pay tribute to olof, stewie2k and many more

In honour of the 20th anniversary of Counter Strike, Valve has released a new skin case called CS20, containing the default knife from CS 1.6 in 13 finishes, as well as a special sticker capsule, as reported by us yesterday. But there is more to that.

In tribute to some of the best moments of CSGO, the CS20 case has captured some of its most iconic moments, including those of Olof ‘olofmeiser’ Kajbjer, Jake ‘Stewie2k” Yip and Jordan ‘N0thing’ Gilbert.

For example, the Glock 18 | Sacrifice skin has been inspired from Olofmeiser’s valiant defuse on a Molotov in ESL One Cologne 2014, which led him to be killed just after the bomb was defused. The graffiti of that moment was sprayed on the B Site in Overpass, with the weapon also getting a similar finish.

Similarly, the P250 | Inferno is a reference to the game saving and ultimately major winning clutch by Stewie2k against Faze in the grand finals of the Boston Major, with its description reading “But look at the time,” the words of commentator James Bardolph during that historic play.

There are references to CSGO and its community in general, with the classic crate skin having “Rush B” written on its description. n0thing too has his moment of fame for creating his funny Flashbang dance that has inspired the Tec 9 | Flash Out skin having the description “Regarding dance lessons with Jordan.”

These moments, still remembered by the community, will now be etched in the game’s history as the finest.

Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 1 to feature a $5 million prize pool

0

Epic games recently pulled off one of the greatest marketing stunts of the gaming world by completely taking down its game for 24 hours as well as blacking out its twitter account. Players were caught up in a frenzy as no one knew what actually happened when the entire map was sucked into a blackhole and players actually feared that the game is over. Epic Games introduced Season 2 of Fortnite in style and to make things sweeter, a $5 million prize pool has been announced for Chapter 2, S1 of the Fortnite Champion Series. They will be giving away the $5,000,000 in total prizes across all regions and competitions, including weekly Cash Cups and new platform specific tournaments.

Qualifiers will begin November 1st and will last for four weeks. The season final will take place between December 6-8th. The previous Champion Series required the players to compete in trios whereas this time it will be a full on four man squad battle. Trades between qualified teams will be strictly prohibited.

Players were relieved as the competition does not clash with Dreamhack Winter’s major Fortnite tournament taking place between November 29th and December 1st, enabling the players to compete in both tournaments instead of choosing one.
