Ex CSGO Source 2 Developer opens up on “toxic” culture of Valve employees

With the hype around the Source 2 update in CSGO continually increasing over the past few months, fans of the competitive shooter are growing restless about the date of the arrival of the new engine to CSGO.

While we still don’t have a date on when will Source 2 be implemented in CSGO, former Valve dev Richard Geldreich has claimed that the engine has been in the works for over ten years.

Geldreich also expressed his dissatisfaction with the former Source 2 team that he was a part of through a series of Tweets dated November 25th.

According to him, the reason behind the repeated delays in the Source 2 release might be due to the team being “irredeemably and systemically toxic.” Geldreich further claimed that the team was the “most toxic group of developers” he had ever seen.

“Looking back, I think part of the problem was the company’s digital distribution income had skyrocketed, and the guys there the longest were all vying for massive bonuses and stock,” Geldreich explained. “This resulted in an incredibly toxic work environment.”

The former Valve dev didn’t stop here. He also took a shot at the Source 2 engine itself, which according to him is “an almost total waste of time and energy.” He also claimed that the engine was “copying & pasting ideas from other engines.”

Previously, VNN Tyler had explained how the Source 2 engine won’t be causing a massive difference in the gameplay itself. However, he also claimed that the upgrade might be a blessing for the map developers and other community content creators who’ll have a much easier time working with Source 2.

If Valve decides to ship Source 2 to CSGO in the near future, there’s a high chance that the engine will have an open beta phase at first to filter out any potential bugs. The same happened when the engine was introduced to Dota 2, another popular title by Valve.

Forsen banned on Twitch for the third time

For the third time in 2020, Twitch Streamer forsen has been handed a ban for unknown reasons which the community speculates to be a DMCA takedown.

His first ban came in May 2020 followed by September 2020 which lasted for two weeks and a day respectively. In recent times, there has been a stark rise in the number of DMCA takedowns in Twitch, with copyrights mostly targetted at songs from old VODs, and forsen seems to be just another victim falling to it.

forsen is not the first big name to fall victim to DMCA takedowns, some of which has been a mistake which Twitch has already apologized to; if it the same for forsen, the ban will likely be lifted in no time. With over a million followers on Twitch, he is a big-time streamer with a history of competing in StarCraft and Hearthstone.

forsen was left without an explanation this time around after Twitch banned him in September for using a homophobic slur which according to him was misheard for his Swedish accent. Twitch will most likely look into it and we hope they quickly come up with a solution if this is nothing but a mistake.

The final was the culmination of a playoff phase that has exceeded 829,000 accumulated unique spectators, counting the semifinals and final, and which rises above the 1.2 million accumulated unique spectators if we also take into account the two quarterfinal games.

In total, Superliga Orange closed the best season in its history at the level of ‘online’ audiences with 4.6 million viewers accumulated between the regular season and the playoffs, which represents a growth of 7% compared to last year.

Famous PUBG Mobile pro and content creator Naman “Mortal” Mathur was inches away from creating history in the Esports Awards. Mortal was the first Indian to ever get double nominations at the prestigious esports awards ceremony. Esports Awards recently started revealing top three rankings for each category and Mortal ranked second in the “Streamer of the year” category.

Mortal is a big PUBG Mobile content creator from India. He started with pushing rank in the first few seasons of the game and then went on to rank in the top five in the Asian region. His exponential rise started when he formed Team Soul alongside his squad and went on a miraculous run to win almost each and every tournament in the first half of 2019.

Mortal was the first to represent India at Esports Awards when he got his first nomination and soon after, he came into limelight by getting nominated for “Mobile Esports player of the Year” category. Mortal was competing alongside some of the biggest streamers on the planet and his fans helped him rise to the second spot and lead ahead of other big names like xQc, Nickmercs, CourageJD and others.

Esports awards is the celebration of prominent personalities for their various achievements and contribution in esports industry throughout the year. It is a very prestigious ceremony in the industry and Mortal hoisted the Indian flag at this event. This year, Esports Awards started a new tradition where they will reveal top three rankings for each category after the main event.

“Streamer of the Year” was the very first category to be revealed and the names along with total number of votes casted were announced. A total of 768,000 votes were submitted for this single category and Ibai ranked first and won the award, followed by Mortal at the second spot and Gaules at third place.

Mortal was the only streamer who prominently represented the mobile esports industry in this category and while he just missed the top spot, the chances of his nomination and victory for the next year are very high.
