Krafton sues Google, Apple, and Garena for developing and distributing PUBG “replica” Free Fire

Krafton Inc, the owners and developers of PUBG franchise and its multiple games, issued Garena for developing a “copy” of their trademark title and has served notice to Apple and Google as well for distributing this alleged copy.

Garena has developed Free Fire and Free Fire Max and this game are one of the biggest hits in the battle arena genre of mobile games.

A big lawsuit was filed by Krafton in US District Court in California against these three companies. Furthermore, Krafton has also accused Google of hosting gameplay videos of these alleged copies and “numerous posts containing a feature-length Chinese film that is nothing more than a blatantly infringing live-action dramatization of Battlegrounds.”

Krafton developed PUBG a few years ago and made its debut in the mobile gaming industry with the launch of PUBG Mobile by collaborating with Tencent. They also developed some regional versions of this game and launched a futuristic new PUBG game called as PUBG: New State on a mobile platform.

As per the reports, Krafton has said the following:

“Free Fire and Free Fire Max extensively copy numerous aspects of Battlegrounds, both individually and in combination, including Battlegrounds’ copyrighted unique game opening “air drop” feature, the game structure and play, the combination and selection of weapons, armor, and unique objects, locations, and the overall choice of color schemes, materials, and textures.”

Krafton did not take this action out of the blue as they claim to have approached Garena to stop this “exploitation” and apparently, Garena refused to do it. They also approached Google and Apple regarding the distribution of Free Fire and asked YouTube to remove gameplay videos of Free Fire and Free Fire Max.

Krafton claims that Garena has made “hundreds of millions of dollars” from Free Fire and Free Fire Max. The claim also says that Google and Apple have “similarly earned a substantial amount of revenue from their distribution of Free Fire.”

Garena is yet to respond on this big lawsuit and it will be interesting to see how things will pan out in the future.

0

Master Chef is a reality cooking show that is watched by millions around the globe which has recently been at the center of Twitch meta and it might be on its way to its demise after DMCA strikes started cracked on streamers.

A large part of Twitch’s reaction community has been hopping on the Master Chef bandwagon given its pulling a ridiculous amount of viewers at the risk of a DMCA strike. Sadly, one of the frontrunners of this meta, Hasan has been haded a DMCA notice, which translates to the fact that he won’t be able to stream it here on out.

“Okay, it’s over. Yeah, Master Chef is over,” “Master Chef as a meta is completely over. That’s it, it’s done.” “I’m sorry boys. It’s fuck bollocks,” “but unfortunately Master Chef will no longer be watched on this stream or on other streams as well. There you go. Controversy ended.” said Hasan.

Not just Hasan, the entire reaction community hopped onto the Master Chef bandwagon as soon as they saw what it was capable of even though the risk of a DMCA strike loomed over their heads.

Hasan’s Tweet is a warning for all other streamers doing the same as sooner or later, their streams and VODs are going to infringe over Master Chef’s original content and a DMCA strike would be inevitable.

0

The rare opportunity to grab the barbarian Fyra skin is around in Fortnite and no better time to prepare it than now, here’s how to do it.

Having released in 2019, there weren’t many opporutnities for players to pick it up, making it one of the most coveted skins in the game, as well as a rare one. Since its debut two years ago, it was avaiable on a few occasions when a lot of players missed out on the chance to get it in their collection.

The skin can only be found in store, where, if you have enough V bucks, you can grab it. Taking into account the treand of its appearence, the skin can be found once a year in the store and unless you have sufficent V-Bucks, there is not way that you will be able to get it.

The skin will likely be set around 2400 V-Bucks so make sure the aforementioned amount is always there in your account incase the skin comes around for another season in 2022, likely in the middle of the year.

Madhya Pradesh To Pass ‘Online Games Act’: Narottam Mishra

A report delineates that an 11-year-old boy killed himself in Bhopal on Wednesday. Allegedly, the boy was addicted to the online battle royale game Free Fire developed by Garena. While such self-destruction cases are on the horizon among the kids, the Madhya Pradesh Home Minister Narottam Mishra has announced that the MP government is going to introduce Online Games Act to regulate all online games.

To ban dangerous online games for children like ‘Free Fire’, the state government is soon going to bring Online Games Act. The draft of the new law is almost ready and will be materialised soon.

Narottam Mishra, Madhya Pradesh Home Minister

According to the parents, Suryansh was a fifth-standard student who was heavily addicted to Free Fire. They also reported that Suryansh was watching a movie with his cousin. Later his cousin left the room and he was found hanging on a rope. Even though he was immediately admitted to a hospital, he was proclaimed dead.

However, this is not the first case. Last year Madhya Pradesh government filed an FIR under Section 305 of IPC against the Free Fire developers as a 13-year-old boy committed suicide in Chhatarpur. Inside his suicide note, he wrote that he lost around INR 40,000 in Free Fire.

Skyesports YouTube Account Compromised

0

One of Asia’s prominent esports organizers Skyesports, had their YouTube account compromised. The Skyesports channel, which currently is unavailable, has over 500,000 subscribers.

The account credentials, specifically the username was changed to ‘Etherum Foundation,’ a very common new generation YouTube scam that targets high retention accounts.

YouTube Is Simply Ignoring These Hacks

Although this kind of hacking is not new under this group name, Google is yet to explain the exploit. The weird part about this hack is that it’s nothing new. There are dozens of accounts on YouTube lying with Etherum Foundation username, most of them compromised.

Mostly, the way these hack works are via rudimentary social engineering, i.e. tricking a user into giving their personal and confidential details. Perhaps, it’s not clear what was particularly triggered in this case.

At the time of publishing this story, I personally spotted at least 11 live streams under names such as ‘Etherum Live’ ‘Etherum News’ all streaming unusual content.

What happens after the hack

These hackers after taking control of your account, stream objectionable contents which is usually prohibited according to YouTube’s terms of service. In this case, in fact, the hacker is using an escrow name “Etherum Foundation.”

YouTube’s AI and algorithm flags the channel and suspends it indefinitely. The most disturbing part of this scam is that there are dozens of ‘Etherum Foundation’ parody or proxy accounts, defaming the original brand.

A simple search returns with at least a dozen channels with 0 videos but hundreds of thousands of subscribers, casually flaunting the security system.

Accounts with wider reach

Skyesports, which has over half a million subscribers is among the top esports companies in India which have millions of interactions, viewership, and traction.

Just like the Twitter scandal where hundreds of accounts were compromised and turned into an escrow bitcoin account, YouTube hacks of major prominent personalities and organizations are much common.

If at all YouTube can’t figure this out, Google must step in and stop this bandwagon of tricksters making their security look like a child’s play.

NRG streamer Alan “ethos” Ruan has revealed that his teammate Matthew “Crit” Franks had lied about his RT-PCR test results while participating in the Nerd Street’s Philadelphia LAN tournament. Crit reportedly lied about his RT-PCR results and turned up to the event despite his family members testing positive.

Ethos has shared the screenshots of the group chat in a Tweet while urging participants of the tournament, which took place on 8th and 9th January, to get tested for COVID-19.

Crit has issued an apology for his actions and has admitted to being “immature” and “irresponsible”.
