G2 Esports bench Mixwell, keloqz back on starting five

0

G2 Esports have parted ways with their duelist Oscar ‘mixwell’ Cañellas Colocho from their active Valorant division as they have replaced the 26-year-old Spanish player with Wassim “keloqz” Cista who was earlier benched at the end of December in 2021.

Mixwell, one of G2 Esports’ elite members, has been allowed to evaluate his options further as his time with the German-based organization comes to an end following defeat at the hands of Alliance in the first round of the lower bracket at the first European closed qualifiers ahead of the VCT 2022 EMEA circuit.

Keloqz had initially replaced Mixwell on January 13, right after their elimination from the European Closed Qualifier as the former was spotted practicing with the team which indeed didn’t feature Mixwell in the sessions. A plethora of reports then suggested the benching of the Spaniard was inevitable which now stands confirmed as the player on his Twitter handle wrote,

I’m officially benched from G2. I have permission to search for options and I’m open to any offers. For more information, please contact G2’s Valorant Esports Manager @knok1

G2 in June 2020 had signed Mixwell as their first piece of the puzzle for their Valorant roster as the ex-CSGO veteran led the former to some notable championships including the Red Bull Home Ground where they won over their regional counterparts Team Liquid. Under Mixwell, G2 made it to the VCT 2021: Stage 3 Masters – Berlin, Valorant’s first ever LAN tournament but fell to Gambit Esports in the Semi-finals of the same. G2’s recent run left them with nothing but to only reassess their options for the 2022 pro season which eventually led them to add keloqz back to the roster and bid farewell to Mixwell.

Mixwell has currently been linked to Team KOI, a Spanish Esports organization where the acquisition is yet to be taken into consideration as they were reportedly waiting for G2 Esports to make their move. Stay tuned with us at TalkEsport as more is to follow.

With keloqz back on the starting roster, G2 Esports are now:

  • Žygimantas “nukkye” Chmieliauskas (In-game leader)
  • Auni “AvovA” Chahade
  • Wassim “keloqz” Cista
  • Aaro “hoody” Peltokangas
  • Johan “Meddo” Renbjörk
  • Daniil “pipsoN” Meshcheryakov (Head Coach)

Team Liquid Acquires Limit Guild, Enters MMORPG Esports

0

SANTA MONICA (January 22, 2022): Team Liquid is proud to announce the acquisition of Limit Guild, one of the largest signings in the organization’s history. Led by Max “Maximum” Smith, Limit Guild is one of the world’s most popular raiding guilds, with over 30 million viewed hours as they raced to make PvE history.

As leaders in the World of Warcraft raiding community, Limit Guild recently achieved World Firsts in Castle Nathria and Ny’alotha raids.

Limit Guild will form a major pillar of Liquid MMO: a new gaming vertical within Team Liquid that will tackle one of the world’s most popular genres — massively multiplayer online role-playing games.

From the mythical regions of Azeroth to the boundless wonder of Eorzea, Team Liquid is going all-in on MMOs with investments in players, content creators, and staff. The design philosophy for Liquid MMO is inspired by fantasy worlds, incorporating elements that might be found in the skylights of The Crystarium or on the gates of Silvermoon.

“When Team Liquid enters a new space, we do so intending to be the best,” said Steve Arhancet, Co-CEO of Team Liquid. “We maintained that philosophy with MMOs — wanting to work with the best to achieve competitive greatness. With Max and Limit, we found not only an excellent team with a proven track record but an authentic group of individuals who pursue greatness with integrity, aligning perfectly with Team Liquid’s values as an organization.”

The acquisition Limit Guild — accounting for 40+ players, coaches and staff — will form the foundation of Team Liquid’s entry into World of Warcraft, Final Fantasy XIV Online and more, with eyes on Riot Games’ future MMO offering. As the guild retires its Limit branding to become Liquid, Maximum has acquired an equity position in Team Liquid and become a minority owner, overseeing how Liquid approaches the MMOs of today and tomorrow.

“Couldn’t be happier to join Team Liquid,” said Guild Leader Max “Maximum” Smith. “From the start, everyone at TL impressed us with their professionalism, their commitment to winning, their global presence and vision for expansion in MMOs. They’ve entrusted me with minority ownership of the company, a huge honor and responsibility I won’t take for granted.”

WoW Patch 9.2 is coming soon, and with it, another fierce Race to World First. Team Liquid will be hosting 35+ of its new raiders in one location as they chase glory within the Sepulcher of the First Ones, producing an expansive, upgraded Race to World First broadcast that will showcase every boss attempt along the way.

“As someone with a history in this genre, it’s amazing to see Liquid MMO finally take flight,” said Mike Milanov, Chief Business Development Officer for Team Liquid. “We have been evaluating this for many months from a brand, commercial and athletic perspective. Bringing on board Max and the team involved a sizable long term investment into a whole new ecosystem for Liquid and we are excited to grow this venture as we race for world firsts in World of Warcraft and new titles on the horizon.”

In joining forces with the best raiding guild around, Team Liquid has a tremendous opportunity to extend its leadership from esports into the global MMO ecosystem. As it ventures forth, Team Liquid is eager to apply its values of diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging, accessibility, and justice in the organization’s short term and long term planning for MMOs.

In addition to her responsibilities as Liquid MMO General Manager, Azorea will spearhead the creation of an advisory council of women in the space, aimed at developing resources and strategies that enable more women to grow as expert players. With Azorea’s expertise, Team Liquid will identify cutting edge raiding guilds led by women to shine a light on their communities, offer mentorship and create safer spaces for women to thrive. This is only the start — more details will be revealed in the coming weeks.

“Team Liquid places a high premium on diversity, equity, inclusion, belonging and justice in the esports and gaming space, and we’re going to apply those values throughout Liquid MMO,” said Claire Hungate, President and COO of Team Liquid. “We have a tremendous opportunity to elevate marginalized voices by creating safer, more empathetic communities within the MMOs we enter. It’s a priority for Team Liquid to lay the groundwork for more women to earn top flight competitive opportunities, and at the very least, play in a space free from harassment and toxicity.”

“I have always been passionate about diversity and inclusion in the Warcraft community,” said Azorea, General Manager of Liquid MMO. “It’s so exciting to now have the opportunity and resources to make a significant impact in a space that means so much to me!”

Aleksib, XTQZZZ Join G2 CSGO Roster

G2 esports announced the signing of Finnish in-game leader Aleksi ‘Aleksib’ Virolainnen and Remy ‘XTQZZZ’ Quoniam. ‘Aleksib’ was signed on a swap deal with OG esports, where Nemanja ‘nexa’ Isakovic will be taking his place, while Aleksi will lead G2. Coach ‘XTQZZZ’ was signed to step in the shoes of Damian ‘maLeK’ Marcel, who was released after PGL Major Stockholm 2021.

The move comes after weeks of rumors and repoCrts from Talkesport, Dexerto, and 1pv.fr regarding the transfers of the Finn and the French coach.

This was the final change for G2 esports’ CSGO team, to complete their rebuild for the 2022 season. Previously AWPer Ilya ‘m0NESY’ Osipov was signed from NaVi Junior to take over the AWP role from Francois ‘AMANEK’ Delaunay. The in-game leading duties will fall on ‘Aleksib’s shoulders, while ‘XTQZZZ’ will be the head coach, his first foray on an International roster.

Aleksib has previously represented ENCE and OG esports in CSGO, leading the former to a Major Grand Final at IEM Katowice and a tier-one trophy in the form of BLAST Pro Series Madrid 2019. He built the OG CSGO project from scratch with Nathan ‘NBK-’ Schmitt in 2019, but the roster saw little success in terms of trophies. They did have 8 podium finishes, including 3 Grand Final appearances – at IEM New York EU  2020, Flashpoint 2, and IEM Summer 2021, but a trophy kept eluding them.

XTQZZZ meanwhile, also built the Team Vitality CSGO project and had been instrumental in their success. It was under him that prodigy Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut’s skill was showcased to the world, and he finished as the best player of 2019 in his rookie year. He also helped in the development of ‘misutaaa’, ‘Nivera’, and ‘Kyojin’ as rookies and turned them into formidable tier-1 professionals. He was released from Team Vitality following the arrival of Emil ‘Magisk’ Reif, Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen, and Danny ‘zonic’ Sorensen.

G2 look done playing second fiddle to NaVi every time, as seen in the announcement video and will look to compete for trophies from the get-go, with a team that isn’t lacking in firepower in any way have each role finalized, be it in-game leading or AWPing. They will play their first game with the roster at BLAST Premier Spring Groups 2022, on January 28th.

With the addition of Aleksib and XTQZZZ, G2’s CSGO roster for 2022 is:

  • Audric “JACKZ” Jug
  • Nemanja “huNter-” Kovač
  • Nikola “NiKo” Kovač
  • Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov
  • Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen
  • Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam (coach)
  • Kenny “kennyS” Schrub (benched)
  • François “AMANEK” Delaunay (benched)

PUBG PC Hits 2 Year Player Peak After Going Free to Play

Krafton’s Battle Royale – Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds, or PUBG: Battlegrounds as it is now called, had 667,399 concurrent players playing the game after the Free to play update. According to steamcharts.com, this is the highest player count the game has seen since December 2019, when the player count was 686,239 concurrent players.

But during the rise of Coronavirus in April 2020, Chinese game services were forced offline due to a Chinese mourning day for Covid-19. Since other services were offline, players turned to PUBG PC and April 2020 saw a peak of 913k players, but that wasn’t to last as the average for April 2020 was still only 242k players on PUBG PC.

Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds has the record for the highest number of players ever, on Steam. In January 2018, 9 months after its release PUBG PC hit a peak of 3,236,027 players. This number is more than twice the number of players on the next most popular game on the list, that is, CSGO which hit a peak of 1,305,714 players in April 2020

But once the most popular PC game ever, PUBG PC hasn’t aged well over time. The game had regularly been losing players over the course of the next three years and the graphs showed a downward trajectory.

Krafton had been working regularly to improve the game, introducing new maps such as Vikendi, Paramo, and very recently, Taego to bring more players into the fold. They brought new weapons into the game, such as the Panzerfaust and the Lynx  AMR, Grenade Launchers and C4s, new vehicles, and a ton of new skins ranging from K-pop group Blackpink themes to footballer Heung-Min Son’s signature helmet.

FPS optimizations, lesser system requirements for PUBG PC, were all part of the plan as well but the Average player count failed to cross the 200k mark for over a year, and the 300k mark hadn’t been seen in 2 years.

This also led to them launching PUBG Lite for players with low-end systems, but it couldn’t hit the peak it was expected to.

Since PUBG PC is now free on Steam, the players who had been playing the game long before were also given rewards for their loyalty. They got the free Plus+ upgrade for sticking with the game even when it wasn’t free to play. Returning players will also get 1300 G-Coin, the in-game currency that is used to buy Skins and crates and other customizable entities in the game. Players also got a new crate for their loyalty with some new skins and outfits for them to try on.

After going free to play though, the peak player count has almost doubled since last month and the average player count is expected to cross the 300k mark if it continues like this. The queue times in all regions have decreased rapidly and there are almost 0 bots in-game once you get connected. This is what PUBG PC was all about, 100 players battling to the death on an 8×8 map. So get your hands on PUBG, without spending any money and hop in the BattleGrounds.
