FACEIT has issued suspensions on over 12,000 players on the platform for smurfing and multi-account abuse.
Through an X post earlier today, FACEIT confirmed that it has mass-banned a whopping 12,478 accounts with the help of “new detection methods” that will now run automatically to detect similar bad actors and issue appropriate suspensions.
In addition to these bans, the platform also provided compensation to players who lost their Elo to these smurf accounts. As confirmed by FACEIT, approximately 20 million Elo has been restored to 544,098 players.
If you suspect that you’ve played against a smurf recently, be sure to check your FACEIT notifications, as you might be eligible to receive an Elo refund.
The FACEIT smurf ban wave comes just ahead of the highly anticipated Season 9 update on the platform. For the unaware, the platform has recently revealed its updated ban policy for the upcoming season, focusing on providing harsher punishments to cheaters and smurfs while showing more lenience toward trash talk and heat-of-the-moment outbursts.
Other big changes might also be on the horizon. The platform recently organized a vote to bring back the half-time voice chat feature to CS2 with its Season 9 update. Should the result turn out to be positive, players could finally welcome back a feature that’s been missing for over a decade.
