ESL India schedules SRA vs 2ez for the title after Optic India is found guilty

ESL India to look into possibility of ESL Fall Premiership Finals rematch

In a statement on Facebook, ESL India acknowledged the ban given to Nikhil โ€œforsakenโ€ Kumawat for 5 years by ESIC effective till 25th October 2023.

They also announced that they would look into the possibility of replaying the Fall Season Finals, with SRA playing against the loser of the now disbanded OpTic India, which is 2ez Gaming.

If all goes according to plan after talks with ESL Global, the match will take place on the 28th of October at 2PM, IST in a Best of 3 match that would decide the Indian entry to the ESL Pro League Asia Finals.

They also acknowledged that they felt short in detecting the hacks used by Kumawat, and would use this opportunity to align themselves with ESL Global Standards.

f0rsaken banned for 5 years by ESIC

2

The Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC) has handed a 5-year ban to Nikhil โ€œforsakenโ€ Kumawat for cheating in the EXTREMESLAND Asia Finals, and on further investigation, the ESL India Fall Premiership as well.

Whilst such a blatant case of hacking on LAN and being caught as well would have called for an immediate lifetime ban, ESIC has justified its decision by allowing the case to follow its โ€œdue process and natural justiceโ€ and not taking a decision impulsively.

The statement read:

We considered the nature and extent of his cheating as a level four offence under the Code (Art 2.4.4). For a second offence, the maximum sanction is a lifetime ban, but we took the view that this was not proportionate as his first offence in 2017 was only very indirectly related to this offence and that a lifetime ban would have been disproportionate. We are conscious that many in the CS:GO community will disagree with this and we understand their feelings, but do not agree and feel that sanctions in esports ought to reflect what is accepted practice in traditional sports as our industry professionalizes.

Integrity Commissioner, Ian Smith, said,

It is always desperately sad when something like this happens in esports, but this case is particularly disappointing as we have previously shown compassion and consideration for Kumawat in our prior dealings with him. Additionally, he has caused great damage to Indian CS:GO and esports and devalued an excellent competition. There is no place in esports for cheats like Kumawat and, at a personal level, I hope we never see him back in CS:GO or any other game again.

This statement is in stark contrast to the length of the ban given, as at 27 Kumawat would be eligible to play again. They have proved to be two-faced in the past as well, as they were very heavy on the IBuyPower Roster in 2014 for throwing a single game, but on the other hand were very lenient towards forsaken in 2016 when his original 2 year ban for violating Account trading rules and being in possession of VAC Banned accounts was reduced to 6 months.

Forsaken has yet to respond and has 48 hours to do so, which will likely go uncontested, as a majority of the community would surely feel that the ban was way too lenient. This will also cause the integrity and the fairness of ESIC to come under huge question, as it is not the first time their decision is heavily against popular sentiment.

Portal Esports’ Pokemon deagle ace at Dew Arena Lahore Qualifiers

Portal Esports’ “pokemon” had a rather fascinating run at Dew Arena CS:GO Qualifiers. Versus a game against ‘Slay & Flay’ “pokemon” hit an outclass deagle ace on an eco round. The opponents, even though, with full weaponry fell short of their strategy against the player.

Drake invests into esports org 100Thieves

100 Thieves, which is one of the fastest growing brands in Esports, has caught the attention of Grammy-winning artist Drake and Entrepreneur Scooter Braun, as the two set to venture into the hot commodity of esports.

The organisation, created by professional gamer Matt โ€œNadeshotโ€ Hagg, was initially an apparel line, which in 2017, with the multi-million dollar backing from NBA team Cleveland Cavaliers has already become a huge brand in the span of just over a year, with 12 employees and about 35 players and coaches.

Drake is known to have a keen interest in esports, which was evident after his fortnite stream with popular streamer Ninja broke the Twitch record for the most concurrent viewers in a single stream. Scooter Braun was thrilled by his interest.

He has a clear vision for where esports is going and how to build an amazing brand within it, and thatโ€™s why I wanted to bet on him and 100 Thieves.

They are one of the first orgs to have tapped into competitive Fortnite, while their LOL roster was able to get a second-placed finish in the first split, along with a trip to the World Championships. Their CSGO squad, however, was a failure, as they dropped the Brazilian roster they had picked without playing a single match, after kNgV was accused of using offensive and inappropriate language on Twitter.

With this investment, the total seed funding now stands at $25 million, as the funding will go toward acquiring new talent, expanding their esports avenues as well as building on their apparel line.

League of Legends player Jian Zihao is the first Nike sponsored esport athlete

US sportswear giant Nike has signed its first-ever endorsement deal with an esports athlete through a partnership with the Chinese League of Legends player Jian โ€˜Uziโ€™ Zihao.

The tie-up will see Zihao, who represents the Royal Never Give Up (RNG) team, star alongside National Basketball Association (NBA) icon LeBron James and Chinese actor Bai Jingting to promote the formerโ€™s โ€˜Dribble &โ€™ marketing campaign to support his upcoming โ€˜Shut up and dribbleโ€™ Showtime series.

The launch of the partnership saw Zihao sporting a black t-shirt adorned with the text โ€˜Dribble & Carryโ€™, with the word โ€˜carryโ€™ being a term commonly used in League of Legends to refer to a single player pushing their team to victory.

Zihao, 21, is widely regarded as one of the best League of Legends players in the world, and recently won a gold medal in the title at the Asian Games in Jakarta, where competitive gaming was included for the first time as a demonstration event. Chinese state television broadcaster CCTV aired a documentary about Zihaoโ€™s esports career before his appearance at the Games.

Zihaoโ€™s team RNG has also signed a number of non-endemic commercial deals in recent times, partnering with both German car giant Mercedes and fast food chain KFC.

ESL admits player used cheat in the finals, investigations underway

Earlier this week, a report by Spieltimes suggested that ex OpTic India player Nikhil โ€œforsakenโ€ Kumawat had been found using the same cheats at the ESL India Fall Premiership Finale as he did at EXTREMESLAND, after his SSD, containing mouse and keyboard configurations and other settings were checked.

Confirming the report, ESL India in a statement on Facebook also said that they would be investigating all the 20 players involved for potential hacks.

โ€œBased on the proof from Zowie eXTREMESLAND Asia Finals, we at ESL India are investigating all the 20 players in the #ESLIndiaPremiership Finale for any potential cheats on their drives. On immediate inspection, we have discovered the same cheat program that was used by Forsaken in Shanghai on the SSD he used at the ESL India Premiership Fall Finale and have shared this evidence with the Esports Integrity Coalition (ESIC).

We at ESL India have considered this a Level 4 offense under the Code of Conduct of ESIC. The Commissioner of ESIC is conducting an independent inquiry and will deliver his verdict soon.โ€

They also confirmed that forsaken had been found with the same cheats as was suspected at EXTREMESLAND, with the infamous word.exe file being at the forefront. According to many sources, the cheats the 23-year-old used was by a company named โ€œez fragsโ€, which claimed to provide VAC proof cheating solutions, and involved a method of including a picture in the screenshots folder of the steam app, which could be then used as a trigger bot.

While Forsakens career is all but over, the future of OpTic India is in huge doubt after reports suggested its India operations might shut down all together. The future of the other 4 players is also uncertain, who, although allowed for the Asia Pro League, are without a team and a 5th player.

The CSGO community and the SEA esports region had a jolt last day when Optic India’s player was caught red-handed. The supervisors of Zowie EXTREMESLAND 2018 Asia finals had a hard time catching the hacker live on the stage of a $100K tournament. Though it was finally a success and the allegations were put to rest with the termination of the player & their roster.

Nikhil ‘forsaken’ Kumawat, the name became an international fame – for all wrong reasons – in less than 24 hours. CSGO2ASIA, the official media partner of the event tweeted the developments on the scene. It was first known that ‘forsaken had been caught cheating’ and that Optic India has been disqualified immediately from the event. The news picked upย the heat so quickly that even ESPN covered the story.

Soon, Optic India’s boss Jesal Parekh came up with the clarifications that none of the administration and the teammates knew about anything as serious as this.

Moments later a video surfaced where f0rsaken was seen interfering with the match referee, which further proved his malicious activity.

The community was quick to react on the disturbing truth, from SEA to the international professionals, everyone had their moment to poke fun at the cowardice courageous act by forsaken.
