TI9: Main event Day 2 Recap

The main event of The International 2019 is underway at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China from August 20th-25th 2019.

The first day of the main event saw us part ways with 4 teams already.

After an exciting day one, day two just got even better with nail-biting and intense match-ups especially the lower bracket matches. Here is a short recap for you guys!

OG VS Newbee

Newbee were clearly the underdogs going into this matchup. Newbee is a Chinese organization consisting of NA players. But these NA players are no strangers to TI or the competitive pro scene. Well, on the other hand TI8 winners had a clear mindset and knew exactly what they wanted to do which was clearly portrayed in this series. OG clean sweep Newbee 2-0 in this best of three series.

Game 1 โ€“ OG again with the core IO pick completely destroyed Newbee. The core IO pick is something that the teams are still struggling to counter. OG with the IO carry and mid Bristlebackjust completely outdrafted and outplayed Newbee. OG were so confident in what they did and it clearly showed when this happened, take a look!

Game 2 โ€“ OG drafted their most comfortable picks going into TI with a clear mindset to clean sweep and close out the series 2-0 and they just did that. Topson on MK and anaโ€™s Juggernaut gameplay, Ceb with the Magnus RP just destroyed Newbee, CCNC tried to carry his team but just couldnโ€™t do it alone. It seemed like OG did their homework and read Newbee like a book everytime, abusing the long cool down on ultimates, OG took small pick-offs over the map and eventually unlocked high ground.

With this win, OG secures a top 6 finish only to face EG in the upper bracket semi-finals! FLY VS NOTAIL #HYPE! Meanwhile, Team Newbee fall down to the lower bracket and has one more chance to keep their dream alive.

EG vs Secret

Both the teams here are fan favourites, but with the recent Dota Pro Circuit performance, the dota 2 community favoured Team Secret to win this match up. Instead, EG with beautiful individual performance and draft shock Team Secret and knock them down to the lower bracket with a 2-1 finish in this best of three series. Just want to point out insane performance by EGโ€™s offlane player s4 in all three games!

Game 1 –This game was purely s4โ€™s show. S4 on the CentaurWarunner just outplayed Secret with a lot of two to three-man stomps allowing Sumail and RTZ to capitalize on his stuns. EG had a clear mindset to focus Midone and shut him down on the midlane which clearly worked wonders for them. Also, a colossal mistake committed by Nisha getting caught out at the bottom lane, allowed EG to capitalize on this mistake and close out Game 1. Here is a short clip from Game 1!

Game 2 โ€“ Hands down the most intense and perfect wombo combo execution by Team Secret! In the early to mid-game, it seemed like EG had this one in the bag with flawless display of Tidehunter gameplay by S4, always getting two-three heroes in his Ravage. EG again focused down Midone on his QuasWex Invoker shutting him down and harnessing his scalability but it was just not enough to close this game. Puppy had a Wombo Combo under his sleeves, Team Secret with good co-ordination and wombo combo just destroyed Evil Geniuses! Here is a beautiful clip of perfect execution of the Wombo-Combo! With this Team Secret equalize the series 1-1.

Game 3 โ€“ Decider game, EG the comeback masters. In the early to mid-game, Team Secret had an insane amount of lead over EG. With, s4 doing poorly in the lane and Nisha capitalizing on it by free farming, it seemed like Nisha would easily carry Team Secret to victory. Dota plus win probability predicted 90%+ on Team Secret but EG pull out an insane comeback in this game 3. EG focused down Zai in team fights taking out the SK from the team fights enabled them to move freely and focus down other heroes. After completing, BKBโ€™s on their cores EG seemed unstoppable. Sumail on one of his signature heroes just completely stomped Team Secret. S4 doing great on his Enchantress in the mid to late game, EG were able to make a comeback and close out this series 2-1.

With this win EG secure a top 6 finish at The International and will face-off against OG in the upper bracket semi-finals. Team Secret drop to the already stacked lower bracket and will continue their run there.

Shortly after the EG-Secret game, the winners of the DOTA 2 Short Film Contest were announced.

The winner took home a prize of 25,000$.

Winning Entry:

Virtus.Pro vs Royal Never Give Up

Done with the upper bracket matches for the day, we now move on the to the lower bracket.

The first match of the Lower Bracket Round 2 saw Virtus.Pro take on home team Royal Never Give Up. Before the event, Virtus.Pro were considered one of the favourites to win TI, based off their 2nd place in the DPC season.

Despite their average results in the group stage, VP was expected to beat RNG in the best of 3 matchups.

Game 1:

Although RNG had an alchemist, VP had kept him in check, wont the laning stage handily.

They were on course for a victory, but a bad fight at a bad location , turned the tides for RNG, No-one died twice in quick succession without buyback and VP had to tap out of game 1.

Game 2:

Game Two followed a similar script as game 1, with VP doing well in the early laning stage, but running out of steam as soon as RNG players bought Black King Bars and hit their timings. Theomni knight pick by RNG completely negated all the damage done by the Virtus.Pro heroes. Gradually VP fell behind after a lot of lost fights, and RNG took the win.

The result was completely unexpected and took everyone by shock.
With this loss, Virtus.Pro have been eliminated from The International 2019 in the 9th-12th place.

RNG move to the next round of the lower bracket where they face the winner of TNC vs Team Liquid.

Despite being one of the top teams in the world for 3 years now, The International glory evades them.

The players were crestfallen, because they knew they had tried their best in the past 3 years.

In the post-game interview, NoOne even hinted at roster changes. This is sad news, considering that the core of this VP roster has been together for more than 3.5 years.

TNC Predator vs Team Liquid

The last game of the day saw TNC Predator take on TI7 winners Team Liquid.

TNC beat Team Liquid 2-0 in the group stages in an absolutely dominating fashion.

Keeping that in mind, TNC were considered to repeat the task again today, but it is never wise to underestimate Liquid.

Game 1:

Both teams had an evenly balanced draft, but Liquid hit their item timings faster. The game was progressing at a slow pace, with both team farming, but TNC building up a net worth lead.

Then a moment came, when Liquid got their Black King Bars , and decided it was go time.

A bad fight at roshan led to host of buybacks from TNCโ€™s side and they couldnโ€™t recover from that.

TNC did not itemise well to deal with all the physical damage coming in from Liquidโ€™s side with the Templar Assassin and Troll Warlord. Even though Gabbi from TNC was playing the Wraith King, Liquid got through his 2 lives quickly.

Thus, Liquid took a 1-0 lead in the best of 3 series.

Game 2:

After that exciting game 1, TNC Predator were 1 game away from elimination, so they picked Gabbiโ€™s signature position 1 Bristleback, but Liquid had a surprise for TNC with their last pick Anti Mage, played by Miracle-.

The TNC Line-up was on a timer, and had to end the game before the Anti Mage farmed and got all his items.

But TNC was unable to do so , and given their lack of disables, they were not able to deal with the split push by Liquid and eventually the Anti Mage spiralled out of control and Team Liquid over ran TNC.

With this loss, TNC Predator are eliminated from TI9 in the 9th-12th position.

While TNC run at Ti9 end, Liquid proceeds to face RNG in the lower bracket Round 3 tomorrow.

Just like the VP players, TNCโ€™s players were crestfallen after their loss, and Armel was very emotional in the post-game interview, even apologising to their fans and supporters for their bad performance today.

With this, we end our recap of todayโ€™s games:

Tomorrow, we will get to witness 2 upper bracket semi-finals, and 2 lower bracket round 3 elimination games. Along with the games, the winner of the ARCANA vote will be revealed tomorrow.

The action resumes tomorrow at 7:30 AM IST.

Hyderabad likely to host DreamHack India event this year; dates revealed

1

UPDATE: The oranizers have issued a statement claiming the information is incorrect and was never a part of their website. Hence, DreamHack appears not to be a part of their event.

Full Article here:
https://www.talkesport.com/news/organizers-clarify-dreamhack-not-a-part-of-their-event-contrary-to-their-website/

Due to a slight blunder by India Game Developers Conference (IGDC) 2019, assorted information about the upcoming DreamHack India event is disclosed prior to the official announcement. Spotted by Rishi Alwani on IndiaGdc website, DreamHack India and the IGDC 2019 seems to be happening together at a common venue and at a common date. However, this might be speculative in nature as the official announcement from Nodwin Gaming is awaited.

This is supposedly the eleventh edition of India Game Developers Conference hosted in the capital city of Telangana. And, the sophomore iteration of DreamHack India will probably be held alongside IGDC 2019 at Hyderabad International Convention Centre (HICC) on 22-23 November later this year.

India Game Developers Conference claims to be the ‘most significant’ developers’ conference in South Asia. The event is attended by industry professionals, expert speakers, investors, media, publishers, delegations alongside hosting 10 major events. DreamHack could be one amongst the ten events claimed by the organizers.

Previous edition of DreamHack India was a massive success. The event garnered huge crowd as the gamers not only from Mumbai but also from several parts of the country tuned in to witness one of the biggest event in the subcontinent. However, critics suggested that the event could have been much better if the organizers had efficiently focused on micro-management.

TI9: Main event Lower Bracket Round 1 Recap

The main event of The International 2019 is underway at the Mercedes Benz Arena in Shanghai, China from August 20th-25th 2019.

In our last article, we covered the first two best of 3 games of the day.

PSG.LGD made short work of Virtus.Pro in the first BO3, while VG won a hard-fought game against TNC with a 2-1 scoreline.

Following these matches were the four Best of One elimination games in round 1 of the lower bracket.

Lower Bracket Round 1 Game 1

The first game of the lower bracket saw Alliance take on Royal Never Give Up. Although Alliance were favoured to win this matchup, a mistake made during the draft cost them dearly, as they mispicked gyrocopter instead of banning it.

Despite this goof up, they tried really hard to make it work and almost won the game. But RNG managed to fight back and eventually took the win.

Sadly you donโ€™t get a second chance in the lower bracket. Alliance exit the tournament in the 13th-16th place with prize money of over $ 504,007.

Lower Bracket Round 1 Game 2

The second game of the lower bracket saw TI7 winners Team Liquid take on SEA powerhouse Team Fnatic in an elimination best of one.

Team Liquid had their classic IO-Gyrocopter-Necrophos picks and never allowed Fnatic to get a foothold in the game. A host of missed blackholes from DJ on Enigma didnโ€™t help either, resulting in a comfortable win for Team Liquid.

Team Fnatic exit The International 2019 in the 13th-16th position, with prize money of over $ 504,007. Sadly, this is the same position Fnatic ended up at The International 2018.

Lower Bracket Round 1 Game 3

The third game of the lower bracket saw Chinese squad Keen Gaming take on South American representatives Infamous in a best of one eliminator.

While Keen Gaming would have been favourites in this matchup before TI, Infamousโ€™s performance in the group stage was surprising and they impressed everyone with their teamwork, quirky picks and resilience.

Despite Keen Gaming getting their iconic Phantom Assassin pick, Infamous with their Templar Assassin and Wraith King proved too big a barrier for Keen.

Keen Gaming exit the tournament in the 13th-15th place winning a prize of over $504,007+, becoming the first Chinese team to be eliminated from the event.

Lower Bracket Round 1 Game 4

The final lower bracket game of the day saw Team Mineski take on legendary esports organisation Natus Vincere in a best of 1 elimination game.

Despite a strong performance from Navi, Mineski were able to beat Navi in an exciting game that ended in a base race.

With this defeat, Navi are the first CIS team to be eliminated from TI9.

They exit the tournament in the 13th-16th place with a prize of over $504,007+

Final day one standings:

Tomorrowโ€™s schedule includes 2 upper brackets best of 3 games followed by 2 lower brackets best of 3 elimination games.

For highlights or replays, one can visit the respective twitch channels and check out the past broadcasts.

All games are also uploaded to DOTA 2 official YouTube channel.

The action resumes tomorrow at 7:30 AM IST.

TalkEsport picks: Starladder Berlin Major 2019 Challenger Pick’Em

It is that time of the season where the who’s who of the Counter Strike circuit battle it out in the quest of being crowned the best team in the world. But, the teams are not the only ones set for battle.

Enthusiastic users all over the world vie for bragging rights and the aim of being the cream of the crop when it comes to predicting how the Major is going to pan out and prove their knowhow of the overall scene.

The Starladder Berlin Major 2019 viewer pass enables the buyers to do just that. The first phase of the Predictions is the Challenger Pick’Em. Herein, the users have to pick one team that will go undefeated in the New Challengers Stage or the Main Qualifiers, along with one team that will not be able to register a single win in the said phase.

Apart from the two selections, the enthusiasts also have to choose the seven teams apart from the 3-0 team that will make it to the next round. There are many versions of the prediction available online via Twitter accounts of CSGO professionals and personalities to aid the decision of fellow gamers. This is an attempt to do the same; to provide some context or clarity, a potential method to the madness that is the Pick’Em.

The team to go undefeated (3-0)

Potential favourites: Vitality, NRG, G2, mousesports

Talkesport Predicts: NRG

Photo via HLTV

You could even chuck CR4ZY into the mix of teams that have the potential to go 3-0 in the Challengers Stage and be able to justify it. But, taking the rookie factor into account, we have opted not to include them in the list of favourites to go undefeated in the said phase.

The chosen ones all have Major experience within their team. Vitality are one of the best teams in the world right now and one of the two teams to have undefeated Astralis recently in a Best of 3. G2 have proven that they are a stable team and have KennyS back on song, which is a huge plus for the French stack going into the Challengers Stage.

mousesports do not have a glorious history at the Major. But, the team finally seems to be coming together nicely and karrigan’s leadership and experience will go a long way in helping their cause. Not to forget that the roster is one of the most stacked lineups in terms of raw skill and individual star power.

But, we have chosen to go with NRG. Despite their questionable rebranding (new logo), NRG were an absolute unit. But, with the addition of stanislaw, the stack has had an injection fresh ideas while the Canadian is a bit of an improvement in terms of individual firepower compared to daps, who had done an incredible job of bringing the lineup to where they are right now.

It is worth noting that it was under the leadership of stanislaw that Complexity managed a shock run to the top 8 at the FACEIT Major 2018.

NRG start their campaign against DreamEaters, a CIS team that came out of nowhere to qualify for the Play-Ins, crushing Spirit’s hopes of making it to another Major. But, the comparative gulf inexperience is likely to take a toll on DreamEaters and NRG should run out comfortable winners. The North American stack looks powerful on paper, is likely to pack a punch at the Major and is our pick to go undefeated in the Challengers Stage.

Team to go winless (0-3)

Potential Favourites: DreamEaters, Syman, Grayhound

TalkEsport Predicts: INTZ

Photo via HLTV

This may be a slightly controversial pick. For one, DreamEaters and Syman do not have any experience at the Major, like INTZ and are hence, favoured to go the entire phase without a win. Grayhound are also an outside chance, merely for the reason that this is erkaSt’s last event with the organization. While that could provide motivation to perform without pressure, on the flip side, it could also be the cause of underperformance in some cases.

INTZ for the same reason and more, are our pick for the 0-3 bracket. kNgV- has all but secured his move to mibr, with reports stating that the primary AWPer is set to fill the void created by coldzera’s departure. Although, no one can doubt the professionalism of the lineup and kNgV-, the former Immortals star could underperform with his head in a different place.

kNgV- is arguably, the most impactful player in INTZ’s roster and him not playing to his full potential could have dire consequences for the Brazilian stack. INTZ have already been relegated to the MDL, which could have an adverse effect on the team’s morale going into the Major.

It is worth looking at the fact that INTZ made it to Major with an incredibly shallow map pool, playing just four maps out of the seven in the current competitive circuit. The other teams are surely to pay heed to this information during their preparation phase. Also, DreamEaters are likely everyone’s pick to go 0-3. But, the CIS team beat INTZ at the Minor Play-In earlier, which is something that also affects our prediction.

Teams to qualify for the New Legends Phase or the Main Stage

Favourites: North, G2, Vitality, mousesports, CR4ZY, FURIA, HellRaisers/Avangar

TalkEsport Predicts: G2, Vitality, mousesports, CR4ZY, FURIA, North, forZe

Photo via HLTV

Anomaly: forZe

Odd One Out: HellRaisers/Avangar

There is hardly any explanation needed for the rest of the teams. North might be the only other team that needs to be explained. But, valde has done a credible job with the Danish stack so far, despite being new to the IGL role and their recent results give us hope that North will be able to reach the Main Stage.

HellRaisers have been poor of late, with the roster moves not really panning out so far for them. There seems to be a lack of cohesion within the team and maybe, it will take more time before they are able to gel and perform better as a squad.

AVANGAR have brought in AdreN to add some experience to the lineup, which along with their primary AWPer and arguably their best player, Jame, makes them a strong contender to qualify for the Main Stage. But, we believe forZe have that X-Factor and team chemistry that might see them prevail over AVANGAR, who haven’t played much since the addition of AdreN.

Call it a gut feeling, a hunch or just something off the back of watching forZe play, but we expect the CIS stack to surprise other teams at Berlin.

Respawn CEO apologizes for outburst of some devs on Apex Legends Fans

0

Respawn recently the launched โ€œthe biggestโ€ update for Apex Legends which brought in various cosmetics and much-needed content for fans to enjoy. Also, with the latest update, Respawn introduced a new event named โ€œIron Crownโ€.

Just after the launch of the Iron Crown event, several players reported it was โ€œpredatoryโ€ as the rewards were locked behind a paywall of $7 packs and needed players to pay up-to $170for a chance to buy the legendary โ€œBloodhound Heirloomโ€ which would cost an additional $35.

Soon after the release, many players started to make a post on the games official subreddit (r/Apexlegends) and soon the subreddit was flooded with posts where fans called the latest event โ€œpay-2-playโ€ and โ€œdisgustingly monetisedโ€.

Respawn was quick to respond and tweaked the event to be โ€œless grindy and monetizedโ€. But even after that attempt players werenโ€™t having enough and didnโ€™t stop with โ€œname-calling and criticismโ€. Soon the lead developer also joined the conversation on the subreddit and called the players โ€œasshats and freeloadersโ€, which didnโ€™t go well with the already agitated player base and the situation got out of hand.

On Monday, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella had to step in and apologize to fans via twitter. Although he acknowledged the foul tone of his dev team and apologized for it, but also agreed that things went too far with some fans calling out names and giving death threats to their family members which made some devs to across-the-line and act in that way. He stated that he stands with his team, but the things went too far and had to be stopped somehow.

Lastly, Vince assured that Respawn will still have โ€œopen, healthy relationship with our communityโ€ฆ.โ€ but will ensure to keep it civil and not engage in similar behaviour again. Although the fanbase has calmed down a little, many fans still want Respawn to look over the Microtransactions and lower the prices to make them less predatory.

As a result of this, Team Soul brought in Sc0utOP as his replacement after mutual agreement with the playerโ€™s ex team, Team IND as well as the active roster of team Soul. The lineup seemed complete and fully ready to compete for the upcoming PMIT 2019.

The international 2019: Day 1 Best of 3 recap

Day 1 started off with a cultural performance from the Chinese Max Crew which was truly mesmerizing, later on Valves showed us the recap, the mindset, the story and a glimpse of how it gonna go down at TI9 which truly hyped up the crowd. Last but not the least, teams were introduced at the mainstage but some minor blunders happened, like wrong team names announced and the Chinese crowd booing the TNC squad. The ceremony ended with the ritualistic presence of the lord himself Gaben Newell, with his signatory quote โ€œWelcome to the Internationalโ€. Here is the clip to the opening ceremony!

PSG.LGD vs Virtus Pro

This classic matchup that is happening for the third time in a row it seems like the Chinese squad is dominating VP with a score of 2-1 overall matchup. This ti9 upper bracket bo3 series, PSG.LGD clean sweep VP with a score line of 2-0. PSG.LGD showed dominant performance over VP, with sheer gameplay, co-ordination and synergy.

Game 1 โ€“ PSG.LGD had a better draft with a lot of team fight heroes and combos. Early game it looked like VP had the upper hand but it all started to crumble when Chalice (Tide) managed to pick up a blink dagger and with the ravage call down combo PSG.LGD just stomped VP. VPโ€™s mid dazzle pick clearly didnโ€™t work out for them.

Game 2 โ€“ PSG.LGD again with a good draft and synergy stomp VP. With the Kunkka Torrent, Mirana arrow, Disruption, Ravage there was just no chance anyone wouldโ€™ve survived this combo. With perfect execution and draft LGD pretty comfortably knock down VP to the lower bracket. Oh! but wait, Ame decides to end this series in fashion with a Divine Rapier purchase. LGD secures themselves a top 6 finish with this win. Here is the replay of this exciting series!

TNC Predators vs Vici Gaming

This matchup was the most anticipated one and oh boy it was intense! It was particularly a matchup wherein TNC could answer back the booing or you may call them biased audience. However, TNC put up some good SEA dotes on the display against the Chinese giants Vici Gaming. The series ended in favour of Vici Gaming with a 2-1 finish over TNC Predators.

Game 1 โ€“ The most intense match of the play-offs so far. It was 70 minutes plus game with neither of the teams securing racks. The game was dead even until this point. Both the teams hesitated to go high ground and secure racks. The 300IQ euls play by Kuku was insane, he managed to dodge Ravage and turn around the team fight. With good individual gameplay, TNC managed to bag Game 1 of the series.

Game 2 โ€“ TNC with a lead over VG, decided to draft a early to mid-game lineup, which didnโ€™t work out for them. With a better late game linup and TNC eventually running out of buybacks and committing some mistakes, VG bagged this game equalizing the series. 1-1

Game 3 โ€“ This game was purely a VG show. Vici Gaming just owned TNC Predators with comfortable picks and outplays. TNC Predators tried out drafting VG with a Broodmother pick but unfortunately Armel ended up losing the lane. It was a quick finish, giving the lead to Vici Gaming in this Best of three series. VG takes this series 2-1 and secures a top 6 finish run at The International 9. Here is the highlights video for intense series!

Well, the upper bracket was a total Chinese show, this guarantees a Chinese team in top 3 at The International 9. Now, PSG.LGD will face-off against Vici Gaming in a Best of three series, the winner will secure a top three finish. Right now, best of one lower bracket matches are going on, losers will get eliminated from The International 9.
