Apex Legends teased Return of Skull Town

The popular map Skull Town had been missing from the Kings Canyon since last year’s season five of the game. However, the fans got excited by a recent tweet from the developers teasing a return of the map.

The Respawn director of communication, Ryan Rigney later confirmed that the patch notes for an incoming update will be coming on June 24. The update might be full of surprises or might even disappoint a few fans.

The return of the map is still not confirmed but the fans are still hoping that with the upcoming event there might be a throwback to an earlier season’s variant of Kings Canyon like the game has already done before.

Skull Town was a very popular map and one of the favorite spots for fans to drop in Kings Canyon before it was removed off the map by Loba’s attempts to kill Revenant during season five. The fans are hoping that the speculations are true and Skull town returns as a map in the game.

Amouranth considered quitting Twitch following Hot Tub and ASMR drama

0

Kaitlyn ‘Amouranth’ Siragusa has developed into one of the most popular streamers on Twitch with a number that rivals none other than Pokimane despite being one of the most controversial content creators to ever grace the platform.

Twitch was created as a platform that would let gamers broadcast their gameplay, following its success in the early days, the company diversified into other forms of live streaming besides gaming. Amouranth was one of the major beneficiaries of Twitch diversifying into a broader landscape of content. Her rapid growth, especially in the past few months was greatly due to the “hot tub” meta, which had greater consequences waiting for her down the line.

The “hot tub” meta instigated a downpour of backlash that Twitch chose to ignore until a few days ago when they demonetized Amourath’s channel, putting a major blow on her revenue stream. Following the re-monetization, her channel earned less than 10% of her initial advertisement revenue. Things once again got going for her with ASMR being the face of her content but Twitch cracked down on it for its sexual nature.

In an interview with Polygon, Amouranth revealed that she considered leaving Twitch at one point.

“I have thought about it — like, is it worth it?” she said. “Do I feel like I deserve [the harassment]? No, I don’t think anyone does,” she added. “But I do feel it’s worth it just to keep grinding while I’m young and have the energy, and then when I’m older and have saved enough money, I can actually do what I want with it.”

Even though the “hot tub” and “ASMR” goes strictly against the Twitch gaming culture, Amouranth wasn’t breaking any rules while doing it, which begs the question that if Twitch will enforce better regulations to keep streamers from sexualizing their content or let them play in grey as they have been going until their recent crackdown.

The Subtle Growth of Esports in India

The world of eSports continues to grow in many places, from the biggest countries down to the smallest, and one of the biggest countries in the world that has seen a rise is India. There is no doubt that the pandemic of 2020 helped eSports gain even more fans globally, with people turning to competitive gaming because it was one of the few sports remaining, with players taking part from home.

The best guesses in India show that viewership in the country has doubled in 2020, meaning that 17 million Indian people are now watching eSports. There is growth in money too, which is attracting new people into the industry, prize pools were estimated to have grown 25-30% at the same time.

We are seeing a big change in India, with a lot of new pastimes coming into people’s lives. Certainly, one of those is esports, though others are out there, and just like esports, many of them have a link to gambling, such as the online lottery in India, which some people are turning towards now. Many various industries will be hoping they can claim big numbers from India in the coming years, and eSports is certainly one of those.

How Esports Can Grow Further in India

Much of how esports grows in India could come down to the work of one man, or those who try to replicate what he is doing. That man is Animesh Agarwal, who is a professional esports player, but has now turned his attention elsewhere, to try and bring through the next gaming talent via his Indian talent agency.

He still participates in selected worldwide tournaments and will continue to make a name for himself there. However, in terms of what he does overall, and the bigger picture, his biggest impact would be if he was able to create a stream of gaming talent coming through his agency in India and taking on the best in the world.

This would then hopefully create a domino effect, where youngsters are seeing their peers head out around the world to play eSports, and they too want to be a part of the action. Should this happen, other people would also move in to try and replicate Agarwal, and that would then feed into the growing eSports market in India that we are already seeing form.

The Future of Worldwide Esports

The future of esports as a whole looks very promising. The rise in mobile gaming is certainly helping with that too, making things even more accessible. We are seeing players and teams pop up all over the world, which will hopefully continue in the near future.

The biggest nations, such as India, have a duty to continue this, and if they do, they are going to really push forward eSports worldwide, and bring a vast number of new people on board. Whether this is players, fans who watch, developers, or anyone else, if the big countries produce, eSports is only going to keep moving forward.

Esports Fantasy Betting On The Rise In The Indian Subcontinent

0

There are enough articles currently on the internet talking about the devastating impact of COVID-19. To say this pandemic has wrecked lives in India will be an understatement. The Delta variant has at the time of writing this article plunged India into another lockdown. While recovery is imminent it will take a bit of time for India to come out of this.

With more and more Indians spending time at home, they have had to find ways to keep themselves entertained. While some may have taken to the kitchen to improve their cooking or baking skills, others have turned to online forms of entertainment to help them pass the time. Digital subscription services for NetFlix and Disney+ have seen an unprecedented increases in their subscriber base. Similarly, the online betting industry has seen more bookmakers make their way into India.

These operators have reduced their reliance on countries synonymous with gambling like the U.K and Sweden and are now on a quest to find their next golden goose.

With over a billion people and rapid improvements being made in smartphone and internet technology, India seems like the obvious choice. One look at sites such as CricketBettingWali.in and you will see a variety of both online casinos and cricket fantasy betting sites. Each provided their own take on the market yet localizing the product just enough to appeal to the Indian audience.

The localization covers the basic points such as providing desi games, payment methods, and in certain cases options when it comes to language. The overall package for the most part is very slick and finding your favorite cricket match to bet on or the latest live casino game is very easy.

However, despite the abundance of bookmakers available to Indians, it seems that few have managed to miss an important sport altogether. We are referring to none other than esports which was once considered an industry not worth investing in. However, lessons from the Western countries should be enough to make these bookmakers realize that there is value in esports. With tournaments for popular games such as DOTA, CS:GO and Starcraft now easily filling up stadiums, esports is here to stay.

Increasing their Esports Library

Some bookmakers such as Betway, and Parimatch have realized the shift in the trend and have started investing heavily in sponsorships signing the best squads playing the games. LAN play has also contributed to the increase in participation of players in e-sports. Initially, some of the popular games were restricted to online play but with LAN play returning, participation in esports has increased tremendously.

This needs to serve as a wake-up call to bookmakers making their way into India. They need to start investing in the esports ecosystem now if they are to appeal to the masses in India. The first step towards this is by adding new titles to their game’s library.

Getting a title such as Valorant will be a step in the right direction. It is made by Riot Games, the same developers that propelled League of Legends to new heights on the esports scene. Once the esports side of things pick up for the bookmakers, then they should start adding the more mainstream titles such as CS:GO, League of Legends and so on.

Sponsorships and partnerships

Once the titles have been locked into the library, the next step would be to sponsor teams and partner with tournament hosts. Getting your name across a player’s jersey or even having it plastered across stadiums will surely create the awareness one requires. Both 1xBet and Betway and great examples of this.

1xBet started off its sponsorship journey by promoting the Electronic Sports League partnership. This has now snowballed which sees their name on top billing across DreamHack and ESL events. They have also gone and signed an agreement with WePlay. Such strategic moves are extremely valuable as they override any existing agreements that one might have between teams and competitors.

Single event partnerships are also great because they are a one-time off which allows the bookmaker to test the sponsorship waters. The bookmaker can use these as test cases to determine whether they are at the right stage for sponsorship or there is more groundwork that needs to be done.

In conclusion, it is important for both established brands or aspiring bookmakers to take esports seriously. This is one industry that will go from strength to strength.

Altenar Adds esports Odds from Oddin Via New Partnership

0

Altenar’s iGaming software received a boost recently, with a deal signed that will integrate Oddin’s eSports odds to their service. The feed from Oddin will be connected to Altenar’s own feed, meaning that their clients will be able to access a wide range of previously unavailable esports betting odds.

We have seen a huge rise in eSports betting over the past 18 months, with the industry taking advantage of events around the world by being able to continue from home, unlike most other sports. The betting industry was already involved with eSports, but now we are seeing more, with things such as betting offers on eSports freely available to customers.

Who Are Altenar?

Like many other companies, Altenar works in the background of the iGaming industry, and for that reason, many people do not know much about them. They were founded back in 2011, so have been in the industry for a decade now. Their focus is Europe, Africa, and Latin America, while they have developed a range of in-house software that powers data feeds for their clients.

From now, thanks to this deal, the Oddin eSports odds feed will be available to Altenar clients for them to use as eSports continues to grow in the betting industry.

Who Does Oddin Provide?

The Oddin odds feed is specifically designed for eSports, and covers a wide range of events, leagues and games. They are known to be used by many and are the preferred choice for eSports in the industry for many players, due to the strength of their service, which is built on the size of their coverage.

They offer a live betting experience, aiming to attract the eSports fans who are perhaps younger, either in their very late teens or early 20s and their stream includes live streaming of games, live betting markets and huge coverage.

Altenar state when signing the deal that many of their operators from all over the world had been asking for a better quality eSports product for their customers. The solution for Altenar was this partnership to bring Oddin on board and go with a trusted supplier rather than trying to create something themselves.

Look out for hugely popular titles such as Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, League of Legends, and Dota 2 as part of the service they are going to bring, with live odds available on these as well as pre-match.

We are continuing to see steps of progress by eSports in the betting industry. The cancellation of sport across 2020 certainly didn’t slow that down, with eSports being able to continue from home. Events were canceled, but there was no full stoppage, so betting providers could still offer odds and have something to show their customers who wanted to bet.

The audience that eSports attracts is mainly millennials, so the betting service for eSports need to match that, something which Oddin have seemingly done brilliantly, and now Altenar is also offering.

In conversation with IM VS Rathanvel | TalkChess

Chess is one sport that has managed to grab eyeballs and mast its own flag during the ongoing pandemic and lockdowns, with the legacy game a household thing once again, thanks to the chess streamers, players – both casual and masters at every level and more. During the lockdowns, online chess gained a lot of traction, with professional chess players and amateurs using the online medium to practise as well as participate in tournaments. Platforms like Mobile Premier League (MPL), Chess.com saw a lot of traction, with MPL even organising a Covid relief chess tournament in May 2020.

We sat down with International Chess Master V S Rathanvel for a fun little candid session about his preparation en route to his Grand Master norm, his current practices and more about chess.

Note: A is Abhisek, the author and R is IM V S Rathanvel.

A: You completed your IM norms in 2019 and were awarded the title in early 2020. What are your plans for the road ahead? Have you set any time frame for your path from IM to becoming a GM?

R: It depends. I am currently 2445 in FIDE Rating in the Classical format and need just above 50 rating points to enter the 2500 bracket. I was looking forward to taking part in a tournament in Vietnam in March 2020. But, the covid situation has made it impossible to participate in any over-the-board events. We have to wait till the situation clears to get a better picture.

A: Moving on to some casual stuff, what are your favourite openings?

R: As white, I prefer the 1.e4 while opting for the Najdorf opening with Black. But, I vary my openings depending on what my opponent plays.

A: Are you planning to start streaming anytime soon?

R: No plans as of now.

A: What does your schedule look like as far as chess practice is concerned?

R: To be honest, with the tournament situation not really clear, my training during the lockdown phase hasn’t been that hardcore. I just play a few games everyday for practice, solve puzzles and see/rehearse openings.

A: What would be your advice to a casual player looking to improve at the game of chess?

R: The players just need to play regularly and have a penchant, a liking for chess. If that is there, improvement will come gradually.

A: Mobile Premier League had come up with an initiative for chess in 2019 with the Chess Mahayudh tournament, with you emerging victorious out of a pool of over 90,000 players. How was that experience and how did you find the level of competition in MPL compared to the legacy chess applications and websites?

R: Yeah, the tournament ran for over 12 hours and it was a nice experience, with games happening one after another. The prize money, which was INR 5 lakhs, was also sizeable enough to help me in my career. As far as practice is concerned, sometimes I do play games on the MPL app itself as games happen quickly and over time, the average level of the opponents have also improved a lot.

Pokimane has a message for Twitch for Hot Tub Bans, ASMR Streamers

0

The most popular female Twitch streamer, Pokimane has expressed her opinion towards the rise in ASMR streams following Twitch cracking down on the “Hot Tub” meta.

The “Hot Tub” meta showed how Twitch’s inconclusive guidelines can be exploited, generating an outpour of backlash from the community over the rise of the likes of Amouranth and Indiefoxx which was not appreciated by other streamers on the platform until Twitch cracked down on them.

ASMR streams looked to have benefitted from it and “Hot Tub” steamers were quick to jump ship before hitting a major roadblock when Amouranth and Indiefoxx were banned for sexualizing their streams.

“I feel really bad for legitimate ASMR artists,” “For people to come into your category and get to the top by doing the splits with their butt out and gurgling into a mic? It sucks, it’s unfortunate.”

“I really hope it doesn’t get to that point with Twitch, if similar events unfold on Twitch, many top creators could be hopped into a category of mature content and lose out on ad revenue, regardless of their participation in these controversial metas.”

Pokimane had strong opinions against the “Hot Tub” meta during its rise and it stands firm when streams choose to sexualize ASMR streams for views which translates to ad revenue. ASMR streams are a double-edged sword given how every streamer carries the risk of running into a fate similar to that of Amouranth and have their ad revenue reduced to an insignificant amount.
