ESIC Working With Riot to Investigate NA Pros Who Switched to Valorant for CSGO Match-Fixing

0

The Esports Integrity Commission (ESIC) has confirmed that they’re currently investigating 35 North American pros for alleged match-fixing in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

During the HLTV Confirmed show on August 31, ESIC commissioner Ian Smith said that they are actively working alongside Riot Games to investigate the match-fixing allegations since many of the suspected pros have transitioned to Valorant from CSGO.

The news comes after the ESIC handed out five-year bans to CSGO pros Sebastian “retchy” Tropiano and Kevin “4pack” Przypasniak after an audio clip of them attempting to fix a game in the ESEA Premier season 35 North America surfaced. Another participant in the call, Carson “nosraC” O’Reilly, was only handed a ban for 111 days since he didn’t explicitly breach the ESIC anti-corruption code.

The ongoing ESIC investigation is centered around the match-fixing allegations in the ESEA Mountain Dew League (MDL), and even has the FBI involved in it. Many of the pros under investigation had seemingly found a safe haven by moving to Valorant, but the involvement of Riot Games might be enough to ensure that the competitive integrity of the shooter isn’t hampered anytime soon.

Top five agents played at the Valorant Conquerors Championship

The Valorant Conquerors Championship has finally come to an end with Global Esports winning the Grand Finals over their regional counterparts Velocity gaming.

At the end of May, Riot had announced its collaboration with Nodwin Gaming to give the South Asian region its first-ever official Championship event and to be a part of the Valorant Champions Tour (VCT) Circuit.

VCC had a wide variety of agent compositions but it seems that South Asia’s top teams figured out which agents work best in the current meta and didn’t deviate from the formula very far. This left Jett as the unsurprising top choice throughout the competition. The break-free operator had an 84% overall pick rate and was chosen across the 38 maps played during the main event. Jett was mostly stunned by Ganesh “SkRossi” Gangadhar (Global Esports) and Mohit “mw1” Wakle (Velocity Gaming) with over 348 and 303 rounds played respectively.

Sova was the second favorite agent amongst top players. The arrow-wielding agent had a 70% pick rate thanks to top players like Tejas “rite2ace” Sawant, Akshay “KappA” Sinkar, and Tasawf “Hermione” Zami who made the most use of the agent across their journey in the main event

Whereas, Killjoy has been ruled as the third topmost selected agent in the VCC with the likes of Jayanth “skillZ” Ramesh (Global Esports), Vibhor “Vibhor” Vaid (Velocity gaming), and Agneya “Marzil” Kaushik fielding the said Sentinel across 156, 108 and 95 rounds respectively.

The fourth highest pick rate belongs to Astra, the controller from Ghana. Despite the nerfs with her addition to the roster, she has undoubtedly been the most preferred agent to be picked at the Valorant Conquerors Championship. Team Exceeli’s Protagonist recorded the highest ACS with Astra at VCC.

The fifth and final agent to have been most picked at the VCC was none other than Viper. With a pick rate of 39%, Viper is holding her own in the meta right now, providing a very solid wall option for almost any comp. She’s particularly effective on Bind, where she can use her utility to clear out chokepoints with ease.

The Conquerors Championship event win led Global Esports to the APAC Last Chance Qualifier (LCQ), a final passage towards the VCT Champions event, to be held later in 2021. VCC is a framework of the VCT Circuit which would further help teams from the South Asian region make an impact alongside the other teams from across the globe. Initially, Nodwin in a press release stated that VCC will feature a prize pool of 25 Lakhs INR ($33,700 USD approx), of which Global Esports were rewarded with the lion’s share of $16,500 USD and a spot at the APAC LCQ.

The most popular female streamer in the world, Valkyrae has revealed a recently diagnosed jaw condition that might reflect on her streaming schedule here on out.

One of the biggest gaming content creators on YouTube, Rae had one hell of a 2020, from becoming the most viewed female streamer, overtaking Pokimane to becoming the co-owner of 100 Thieves in 2021. It’s safe to say that she was loving her time on YouTube but a freshly surfaced health condition might ruin the fun for her.

On her August 31 stream, Rae revealed that her upcoming streams can be shorter given her health condition won’t allow her to verbally communicate for long periods. According to her, she is suffering from temporomandibular joint dysfunction of the jaw which leads to joint pain in the jaw and significant difficulties in day-to-day tasks like chewing, talking, etc.

Her announcement was met by a downpour of supportive messages which will make a difficult time such a this a little more bearable. Communication is a big part of streaming and not interacting makes a stream less engaging, thus it is easy for fans to lose interest eventually.

For now, we hope, Rae remains unbothered by the drop in her streaming hours and can fully focus on recovering.
