PMGC 2021 League Finals: Qualified Teams, Format, Where to Watch

The PUBG Mobile Global Championship 2021 League Stage ended after three weeks of intense battles between the best teams around the globe. A total of 40 teams competed in the PMGC East and West league stage with 20 teams in each region. The top 16 teams from the East and West leagues qualified for the League finals which are scheduled to be held from December 22nd to 24th, 2021.

The 16 teams will play six matches per day for a total of 18 games to be at the top of the leaderboard. The top nine teams from the east and the top six from the west will advance to the PMGC 2021 finals. These 15 teams will be joined by one more invited team from India, which is scheduled to take place next year. Here is the list of teams that qualified from the east and west region:

The bottom four teams from each region could not qualify for the league finals. FaZe Clan, Deadeyes Guys, Tong Jia Bao Esports, and BC SWELL were the ones that got eliminated from the East league state whereas SuperMassive Blaze, Black Dragons Esports, XSET, and Team Queso were the ones from the West league stage.

Teams such as Bigetron RA and Nova Esports didn’t have a great run as they could not qualify every week although managed to reach the league finals. All the fans would be looking out for some great performances in the league finals.

Report: NiP’s dev1ce Looks for Return to Astralis

Arguably the biggest signing in CSGO history, Nicolai ‘dev1ce’ Reedtz might be headed for an early exit from Ninjas in Pyjamas’ CSGO roster. The Dane joined the prestigious org in April of 2021, after spending 5 years with Astralis, winning 4 Majors, and a plethora of other trophies. 

According to new findings by 1pv.fr and Dexerto.com, dev1ce may have to cut his 3-year contract short as he is keen for an exit from the team. Disappointing results and a bad patch of form have left ‘The Tom Cruise of CSGO’ with little to celebrate about.

NiP’s woes were visible from the get-go as they continuously rotated one player, not finding a permanent 5th player. First, it was ‘ztr’ from Young Ninjas who was then replaced by ‘LNZ’. After the PGL Major, he was replaced by Patrick ‘es3tag’ Hansen from Cloud9. But even the addition of another Dane couldn’t help Nicolai as he was visibly disappointed by the performances.

NiP lost to Team Liquid, a team on their last legs was able to knock them out of BLAST Premier Fall Finals at the Royal Arena and it was frustrating for dev1ce and for all of NiP. Their best finish was at IEM Fall EU RMR, where they defeated ENCE to take home the trophy. But it had little value as it was a qualifier for the Major with a limited prize pool.

CONTINUOUS WOES

Dev1ce came to NiP with the intention of building a legacy, having achieved almost everything with Astralis. It was equated with the transfer of Cristiano Ronaldo to Juventus when he first joined, with the desire to win trophies all over the world. 

But it wasn’t meant to be as NiP bombed out of the Stockholm Major in 5-8th place, losing to G2 in front of their home crowd in the quarters. They barely scraped through the legends stage as well as Copenhagen Flames came close to knock them out in the top 16 itself but they finally made it through but that was where the hype ended.

Even after roster changes the team couldn’t find their rhythm and lost to Liquid at Fall Finals, were second best to Vitality at IEM winter, and 7-8th at BLAST Premier world finals. A part of it was due to dev1ce feeling ill and being asked to sit out the last 2 tournaments.

It was dev1ce himself who had asked to leave Astralis in early 2021 and they approached NiP seeking a transfer. Dev1ce had moved to Sweden quite a while back and it was rumored that it was partly due to him wanting to stay closer to home that he chose NiP. He was in a relationship with Emilia Hult at that time and lived with her in Stockholm. 

As per dexerto, after going their separate ways, dev1ce has moved back to Denmark and lives in  Copenhagen.

RETURN OF THE KING?

Dev1ce was instrumental in his side’s success throughout his 5-year tenure and was their star player. He won 4 majors and was the MVP in two of them as Astralis completely reinvented how the game was played and no one could topple them at their peak.

Since his departure, Astralis have found little to no success. Their best performance has been a 3-4th finish at IEM Cologne 2021 and BLAST Premier Fall Finals. The AWP role at Astralis is still in question even after the signing of Philip ‘Lucky’ Ewald. He started out as an AWPer for the Danes but his performances were not up to the mark as Astralis failed to make playoffs of EPL S14 and a 13-14th place finish at the Major was no good either.

Since the signing of ‘blameF’ and ‘k0nfig’, IGL ‘gla1ve’ has taken over the primary AWP role. What is more interesting is that ‘Lucky’ isn’t even the secondary AWPer as ‘k0nfig’ is given priority over him. 

With dev1ce’s renewed interest in Astralis, he might just be what Astralis need as he knows the team through and through and can be a clear upgrade over Lucky. This would free up gla1ve to focus solely on IGL-ing if he gets his star AWPer back. 


NiP will look to make back some of what they spent on his transfer, which was reportedly close to $715,000 US Dollars. Dev1ce was signed on a 3-year deal but seeing how things are turning out, NiP will definitely look to make back some of that if Nicolai is to leave the org.

Report: G2 Esports in talks with Aleksib and XTQZZZ for CSGO Team

According to a report from 1pv.fr, G2 Esports have got into extensive talks with Team Vitality over the transfer of their Counter Strike head coach, Rémy “XTQZZZ” Quoniam alongside Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov of Natus Vincere while they also seem to have getting themselves a new in-game leader to lead the next iteration of the roster.

They had reportedly opened up negotiations in early December with OG CS:GO which will see Aleksi “Aleksib” Virolainen move to his new home at G2 Esports.

The post-major shenanigans seem to have already begun in the faces of Vitality and Astralis who have entered negotiations to re-shuffle their rosters post their exit from the recently concluded PGL Major Stockholm.

As previously reported by TalkEsport, the trio of Peter “⁠dupreeh⁠” Rasmussen, Emil “⁠Magisk⁠” Reif, and Danny “⁠zonic⁠” Sørensen will join the ranks of Vitality for the forthcoming 2022 pro circuit and are expected to replace Richard “⁠shox⁠” Papillon, Jayson “⁠Kyojin⁠” Nguyen Van and head coach Rémy “⁠XTQZZZ⁠” Quoniam on the french side’s active CSGO division.

After parting ways with Damien “⁠maLeK⁠” Marcel around in the middle of November, we might soon see some changes transitioning within the G2 Esports squad who are to revamp with a new sniper and an In-game leader followed by the recent report, which suggests XTQZZZ to take over the reigns as the head coach for 2022.

Most notably among the rumored reports is m0NESY who was brought aboard by Natus Vincere in January 2020 as a part of their academy roster while being the youngest person on the roster back then.

Ever since the former has taken everyone by storm and has proved to be a true contender for future opportunities. Na’Vi recently decided to accept offers for the 16-year-old sniper and has already attracted interest from G2 Esports. 

In addition, Aleksib from OG Counter Strike has also been approached by G2 Esports for their IGL Spot and as reported, the Dota 2 giants won’t be giving up on their leader this easily. Under Aleksib, OG have secured a plethora of top table finishes but have never won a championship.

CSGO: Team Vitality Roster Changes Incoming After Emotional Last Dance

Team Vitality bid farewell to 3 of their members as they lost to NaVi in the Consolidation Final of BLAST Premier World Finals. It was reported after the PGL Major in Stockholm that Team Vitality will be making roster changes in 2022  and the players’ reaction and comments all but confirmed that this was the last event for the team. 

The journey was labeled ‘Last Dance’ by fans and experts alike as Vitality had an incredible showing at BLAST Premier Fall Finals where they came second. They also won IEM Winter as ZywOo secured his first MVP of 2021 and came 3-4th at BLAST Premier World Finals.

According to 1pv.fr and Dexerto, the roster changes Vitality will make consist of the removal of Richard ‘shox’ Papillon and Jayson ‘Kyojin‘ Nguyen Van from the active roster while coach Remy ‘XTQZZZ’ Quoniam would be relieved of his duties as well.

The rumored trio to replace them would be the core of Astralis consisting of Peter ‘dupreeh’ Rasmussen, Emil ‘Magisk’ Reif, and coach Danny ‘zonic’ Sørensen. The three Danes have been on the bench of Astralis ever since Christian ‘k0nfig’ Wienecke and Benjamin ‘blameF’ Bremer joined along with coach ‘ave’. Their contracts expire in 2022 January and they will reportedly be signing for Team Vitality as a package deal.

The goodbye was very emotional for Dan ‘apEX’ Madesclaire in particular as seen in the post-match interview. It was XTQZZZ who has been with Vitality since the start. He helped shape ‘apEX’ from an entry fragger to an IGL while also helping greatly with the development of ‘misutaaa’ and ‘Kyojin’ when they joined. There was mutual respect from both sides as they shared a group hug after the game.

Meanwhile ‘shox’ was reported to join Team Liquid while ‘XTQZZZ’ is rumored to sign for G2 esports. He said he will be back for 2022 and fans expect great things once he joins the star-studded lineup of G2 who are already planning big things for 2022. Kyojin’s future is currently unclear. 

If things go as planned, Vitality’s roster for 2022 will be:

Krafton Inc. emerges as leading investor in FRND App’s $6.5M funding round

Krafton, the South Korean video game creators, have led in the $6.5 million Series A funding round for a new startup called FRND. Existing investors such as India Quotient and Elevation Capital also participated in this funding round but Krafton Inc. invested the highest amount of them all.

FRND is a new audio romance and friend discovery startup based in Bangalore. It was founded in 2019 by IIT Kanpur alumnus Bhanu Pratap Singh Tanwar, Hardik Bansal, and Harshvardhan Chhangani.

Krafton Inc. is widely known in India by the gaming community. They have developed famous games like PUBG and BGMI, the local version of PUBG Mobile. Krafton has also invested in Indian companies like Nodwin Gaming and Loco and this is yet another large investment.

Krafton had earlier pledged to invest a huge sum of $100 million in India to grow the industry and such investments are the results of their commitment.

FRND brings a unique approach in dating apps market with unique live-streamed features and games to provide a chance at bonding on a much deeper level for youth.

Talking about FRND, the company CEO said the following:

“There is a huge untapped opportunity in the Indian romance market, where youngsters connect and interact with the opposite gender over the internet. We have been working towards providing a safer platform to the Indian youth, especially girls. The final event of the year has ended and it would not be complete without the mention of the absolute GOAT of CSGO – Aleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev. The Ukrainian rounded out the year with a sensational performance again at BLAST Premier World Finals to complete a dream run from the lower bracket all the way to the $500,000 grand prize.

The tournament started with a shock loss to ‘dead’ team Team Liquid who upset NaVi in the opening game. The Major winners then bounced back with a vengeance as they fought back from the lower bracket versus Heroic, G2, Team Liquid again for revenge and then ruined Vitality’s last dance in the consolidation final.

In the Grand Final, they defeated their domestic rivals Gambit who had hounded them a lot during the first half of the season, but post player break it was NaVi who took the spoils every time, especially at the PGL Major.

This was s1mple’s 8th MVP in 2021, the most by any player ever in a single calendar year, overtaking the previous best of Nicolai ‘dev1ce’ Reedtz who had 7 MVPs in 2018 during the era of Astralis.

The 24 year old AWPer looks set to be crowned the #1 player of the year for the second time, after getting his first in 2018. He outdid his 2018 performance by a margin and had the trophies to boot this time around, and a major title. He will become the first player to reclaim the #1 spot, after missing out on it in 2019 and 2020 courtesy of Mathieu ‘ZywOo’ Herbaut.

NaVi also cemented 2021 as their year, winning almost every S tier tournament in the second half the year and a couple of #1 finishes at the start of the year as well. It was the addition of Valeriy ‘B1T’ Vakhovskiy that gave NaVi the push they needed to go from #2 to #1 team in the world. 

The NaVi era is well and truly here and they will look to continue their winning ways once the 2022 season begins, as will s1mple who is showing absolutely no chances of slowing down any time soon as he vies for the crown with NiKo and ZywOo, to be called the best player to ever touch the game, but for 2021 he is a class apart from the rest.

NaVi Crowned BLAST Premier World Finals Champions

Natus Vincere ended the year on the highest of the highs, winning the final tournament of the year – BLAST Premier World Finals 2021. Faltering at the early stages, the CIS squad turned things around the very next day and defeated every team that came their way be it Heroic, G2, Team Vitality or finally Gambit in the Grand Final.

MAP 1 – Mirage – Gambit 16-11 Natus Vincere

Gambit started off well as they had a head start, not needing to play in the Consolidation final as they came from the upper bracket. They took NaVi’s map pick of Mirage comfortably, winning the game 16-11 after taking a decent 9-6 lead in the first half. NaVi kept it close in the second half pistol but a 3v5 in the follow up force buy reinvigorated the Russian squad and they ran away with the game with ‘Ax1le’ outperforming s1mple by a margin.

MAP 2 – Ancient – Gambit 11-16 Natus Vincere

On to Gambit’s pick of Ancient that was termed surprising by coach ‘b1ad3’, NaVi got off to a good start with a 2-0, Gambit fought back but NaVi’s streak of 6 rounds in a row saw them amass 9 CT rounds as the sides changed. S1mple and electronic with 15 CT kills each put them in the driver’s seat.

S1mple continued his tear on the T side as he racked up 11 more kills on the T side. Gambit tried to make it close with 5 CT rounds but ‘boombl4’ out-callled them by a margin leaving them in the dust to make it 16-11.

MAP 3 – Inferno – Gambit 6-16 Natus Vincere

The final battleground for every good series – Inferno was the decider. It was the s1mple show again as him and IGL boombl4 shut the gates to Gambit’s T side attempts. They had a combined 33 kills, with 14 more from perfecto to take a lead of 11-4 into the second half.

NaVi didn’t let up and let Gambit have 2 sporadic rounds as they won the game out comfortably,16-6  thanks to s1mple’s 27-9 and a 1.92 rating on the final map.

BLAST Premier World Final Champions

With this win NaVi take home $500,000 in prize money and another trophy – their 8th off 2021. They secure the title for the best team in the world by a large margin, having won the all important Major, the Intel Grand Slam, BLAST Fall Finals and now finally BLAST World Finals.

They won every LAN they attended in 2021 be it IEM Cologne, PGL Stockholm, BLAST Premier World Finals and BLAST Premier Fall Finals.

Aleksandr ‘s1mple’ Kostyliev once again proved that he’s a cut above the rest as he posted a rating off 1.42 in the tournament a 1.62 rating in the Grand Final to carry his team to a 2-1 victory in the Grand Finals over ‘nafany’ and his men. He won the MVP for his stellar performance throughout as he took home his 8th MVP medal to break the record for most MVPs in a year as well as equalling dev1ce for Most MVPs of all time.

What to expect in the 2022 Season?

This was the last Pro CS tournament of 2021, as teams like Liquid, Vitality, G2 and others look for a rebuild and bounce back stronger in 2022 while NaVi will look to continue their ‘era’ which is well and truly here.

Stones pelted at S8UL Gaming House; Four Arrested

S8UL Gaming House, the home and work space of some of the top gaming content creators in India, was attacked by six youths. The accused were pelting stones at the window of S8UL Gaming house and after launching a formal complaint, four of them have been arrested by the police.

8Bit Creatives co-owner 8Bit Goldy took it to his social media to create an awareness on the serious matter of hatred and explained the ordeal. According to him, He and another member of S8UL returned back from Goa and were resting at the facility when they heard a bang on the window.

The noises continued for some time until 8Bit Goldy and Soul Mortal went upstairs and spotted people hiding in bushes and pelting stones at the facility. The attack caused some property damage to the window and broke the mirror of Hastar’s car.

S8UL representatives then went on to bait the culprits and invited them into the facility under the pretext of click photographs. They detained four of the attackers and called the police. The guard was also injured in this attack.

A complaint has been lodged at the Khargar police station and four youth are held there while two others are still missing. 8Bit Goldy also said that the youths were actually kids and their parents are called to the police station as well. Their identities are kept secret for now as they are minors.

S8UL has a large fan base with a small portion of ill-wishers as well. The hate speech issue has been pertinent in community for a long time but these youngsters took it to another level by breaking the law. The course of action is not revealed yet.

Brazilian soccer star Neymar Jr. has joined Facebook Gaming with a streaming deal and will stream exclusively on the platform moving forward.

According to Facebook, the 29-year-old will stream multiple times each month and alongside other content creators.

His first official live stream after the deal happened on December 17th, 11 am PT that fans can check out on his official Facebook page.

This major move by Facebook Gaming has certainly put the platform one step ahead in its ongoing competition against other popular services like YouTube or Twitch.

GXR Gamers Galaxy Valorant format and prize pool

Format for Valorant tournament at GXR Gamers Galaxy, which places 64 teams in a competition for the lion’s share of 5,000,000 PKR, is finally here. 

Earlier in October, Galaxy Racer announced Pakistan’s biggest, all-encompassing esports event in the lush metropolis of the country. From the console, mobile, and PC, all gaming communities will get a chance to gather in Islamabad’s Pak-China friendship center to commemorate esports. 

Valorant has quickly grabbed the interest of first-person shooter enthusiasts in Pakistan. Top-tier teams are gearing up to bring their best foot forward as the Valorant esports in Pakistan is as competitive as ever. There are clear favorites and underdogs, but the local teams are well-known for their surprise element.

Gamer’s Galaxy has finally revealed the brackets and format for the most significant event. 

What’s the format of Gamer’s Galaxy Valorant? 

Sixty-four teams across Pakistan will compete online for the biggest LAN event in Islamabad. From 18-19 December, all the teams will fight in a best of one, single-elimination format to make it to round 2. The 32 best teams will further compete in a bo1, resulting in the top 16 teams across Pakistan. 

Round 3 will take place on 22-23rd December, finalizing the eight teams for the online Quarterfinals that will be live-streamed on 25-26 December. All matches will be best of one, except Quarterfinals, Semi-finals, and Finals. The last two stages will occur on LAN at the prestigious stage of the Pak China Friendship Centre in Islamabad on January 8th-9th, 2022. 

GXR Gamers Galaxy prize pool 

The esports event will have a grand prize pool of 2 CRORE PKR, distributed among Valorant, FIFA, PUBG Mobile, and Tekken 7 winners. Valorant prize pool was initially 4,000,000 but was later cranked up to 5 Million PKR.

Teams to watch out for at GXR Gamers Galaxy 

Valorant has easily nurtured one of the most cut-throat esports in Pakistan in a short span. The competition is tough, as top players from CSGO, Fortnite, and more games transferred to Valorant to set up killer lineups. 

Team Exploit is easily the tournament favorite at GXR Gamers Galaxy. With HSB as their top gun and shooter as the ace aimer, it’d be tough to keep Exploit away from the trophy. Team Arrow has recently failed to show on servers, but the team would likely bring their A-game for the biggest esports event in Pakistan. 

New-look Clarity, Fear Legends, Salt Esports will also show up with rosters studded with notable FPS players in Pakistan. Team Falcons and Neoteric would enter as underdogs who have the potential to upset bigger teams.
