Riot Games is replacing the Average Combat Score system with a new Performance Score metric, and it’s certain to impact your ranked climb.
The new system brings some crucial improvements over the previous method used to determine a player’s impact on the game, taking into account a wider number of factors that may affect your standing on the game’s end-of-game leaderboard.
If you’ve been busy grinding your rank in Valorant lately, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one.
Valorant Performance Score Explained
Starting with patch 13.06, Valorant players will see a new “Performance Score” system being used to determine their position on the game scoreboard.
While the previous ACS system only relied on a player’s kills, assists, and total damage dealt, this new system factors in ability usage, the number of trades you get, and even Spike plants or defuses to identify your overall impact in the game.
Needless to say, this could be a big change for Agents who rely on their abilities to secure crucial information for their team while denying enemies the same, and it might just make them shine more on the scoreboard.
Initiators who consistently set up teammates, Controllers who block sightlines effectively, and Sentinels who use defensive utility well could see their contributions measured more precisely instead of being overshadowed by fraggers.
That said, players hoping this changes their rank climb drastically should temper expectations. Your kills and assists will still matter, as will your total damage dealt, so if you’re going 0-13 on the scoreboard, it’s unlikely you’ll end up anywhere near the top.
Whether this new Performance Score system will impact your total Rank Rating (RR) gains after a competitive game remains unconfirmed at the time of writing.
