VCT Pacific also announced the news on Instagram on September 4, 2026, calling 2026 a year of “many firsts” for the team. This marks Global Esports’ first-ever appearance at a VALORANT Champions event and a landmark moment for Indian VALORANT esports.
The team earned its spot through a deep playoff run at the VCT Pacific Stage 2 finals in Busan, South Korea.
Global Esports’ Road to VALORANT Champions Shanghai
Global Esports entered the VCT Pacific Stage 2 playoffs and delivered its best postseason run to date. The team defeated KIWOOM DRX 2-1 in a tight opening series before sweeping VARREL 2-0 to reach the upper bracket final in Busan.
Filipino duo Patrick “PatMen” Mendoza and Xavier “xavi8k” Juan led the charge throughout the run. Juan posted 56 kills across the KIWOOM DRX series, while Mendoza put up 38 kills against VARREL, including a 19-frag performance on Summit.
Global Esports then faced Nongshim RedForce in the upper bracket final on September 4. Nongshim RedForce won the series 2-1, sending Global Esports into the lower bracket. Despite the loss, the result kept the team’s Champions Shanghai hopes alive through the Pacific region’s remaining qualification slots, which were being contested by Global Esports, T1, and VARREL over the same weekend.
VCT Pacific Qualifiers Confirmed for Champions Shanghai
Two Pacific teams had already locked in their Champions Shanghai spots through Championship Points before the Busan finals began. Paper Rex secured qualification on the back of runner-up finishes at Masters Santiago and Masters London, along with a VCT Pacific Stage 1 title. Nongshim RedForce claimed a second Pacific ticket after posting strong results across the season, including a Masters Santiago trophy.

With Global Esports’ announcement, all four VCT Pacific representatives for Shanghai are set. This is the first time an Indian VALORANT organization has reached the VCT Champions stage since the tournament’s franchised era began.
VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026: Dates and Format
VALORANT Champions Shanghai 2026 runs from September 24 to October 18, 2026, marking the first time China has hosted the VALORANT world championship. The event carries a prize pool of $2.25 million, with $1 million going to the winning team.
Sixteen teams will compete, with four representatives coming from each of VALORANT’s four international leagues: Americas, EMEA, Pacific, and China. The teams will be split into four groups of four for a GSL-style double-elimination group stage, with the top two finishers from each group advancing to the playoffs.
NRG Esports enter as the defending 2025 World Champion. Previous winners of the tournament include Evil Geniuses in 2023 and EDward Gaming in 2024. This edition will also be the final Champions tournament under VCT’s current franchised format, ahead of a planned shift toward a more open structure in 2027.
Global Esports’ qualification gives India its first representative at a VALORANT Champions event.
