FaZe Clan’s Response to Trump Shooting Sparks Controversy

When Esports and Politics Collide: The FaZe Clan Controversy

Donald Trump was a victim of a shooting during a rally in Pennsylvania on July 13. As soon as shots were fired, Secret Service agents rushed to protect him upon which Trump was seen with blood on his face as he rose a short while later.

When multiple creators wrote about the incident, social media was inundated with viral photographs. Popular esports organisations being one of those who reposted on X sparked controversy as the community did not agree with his being subjected to humour.

“I’m no Trump fan, but this post is sickening and makes me lose a lot of respect for FaZe. It’s not funny,” said one X user.

“Not really something to joke about no matter who it is. FaZe down. Disgusting,” said another.

After the incident, the former President described that his right ear’s “upper part” was caught on fire and had to be taken to the hospital. The shooter who targeted Trump at the rally, named by the FBI as 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, was subsequently verified to have been shot and killed by the Secret Service.
