Team Vitality returned to winning ways in Barcelona after defeating Aurora Gaming 3-1 in the Grand Final of StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026, completing a remarkable lower-bracket comeback and avenging their defeat to Aurora just a day earlier.
The victory gives Vitality their first tournament title since May and comes after a difficult spell for a roster that had dominated the opening months of 2026. Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut was once again at the heart of Vitality’s run, producing another influential performance as the French organisation converted its second opportunity against Aurora into silverware.
Vitality take the long road to the StarSeries title
StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 brought eight teams to Barcelona to compete in a double-elimination bracket for a $500,000 prize pool.
Vitality arrived with Dan “apEX” Madesclaire, Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut, Robin “ropz” Kool, William “mezii” Merriman and Shahar “flameZ” Shushan looking to rediscover the form that had made them the team to beat earlier in the year. Their campaign began comfortably. Vitality swept magic 2-0 in their opening series before meeting FURIA in the upper-bracket semifinal. The Brazilians were unable to stop them either, with Vitality recording another 2-0 victory to set up an upper-bracket final against Aurora Gaming.
That was where their run encountered its first serious setback. Aurora defeated Vitality 2-1, winning Anubis 13-7 before Vitality responded with a 13-11 victory on Inferno. Aurora then took Nuke 13-8 to send Vitality into the lower bracket and advance directly to the Grand Final.
The defeat left Vitality with no margin for error on championship Sunday.
Vitality beat FURIA again to earn Aurora rematch
Before Vitality could think about revenge, they first had to get through FURIA for a second time. They did exactly that. Vitality defeated FURIA 2-0 in the lower-bracket final, completing a second clean sweep of the Brazilian side at the tournament and earning an immediate rematch with Aurora. It meant Vitality entered the best-of-five Grand Final having already played an elimination series earlier in the day, while Aurora had been waiting for their opponent after progressing through the upper bracket.
This time, however, the outcome was different.

Less than 24 hours after Aurora had knocked them into the lower bracket, Vitality returned to defeat the Turkish-majority roster 3-1 when the trophy was on the line.
Aurora managed to take Inferno 13-11, but Vitality controlled the remainder of the series to close out the best-of-five and become StarLadder StarSeries Fall 2026 champions.
The result completed an impressive turnaround for apEX and company. Vitality had been forced to play through the lower bracket, defeat FURIA and then face the same Aurora roster that had beaten them the previous day.
When the two teams met for the second time, Vitality made the opportunity count.
ZywOo leads Vitality’s charge again
At the centre of the championship run was ZywOo. The French superstar was named MVP after another tournament in which his individual impact proved crucial to Vitality’s success. It continues an extraordinary period for a player who has remained the focal point of Vitality’s Counter-Strike project through different iterations of the roster.
Alongside apEX, ropz, mezii and flameZ, ZywOo helped ensure that Vitality’s first loss of the tournament did not become their last. Instead, the defeat to Aurora became the setup for their eventual comeback.
Vitality return to winning ways
The Barcelona victory carries particular significance because of what preceded it. Vitality had established themselves as Counter-Strike’s dominant force during the first part of 2026 before their momentum was interrupted by a series of more difficult tournament results. StarSeries therefore represented an opportunity to show that the team’s championship-winning level had not disappeared. They ultimately did so through the difficult route.
Vitality finished the event having beaten magic once, FURIA twice and Aurora when it mattered most. Their only defeat came against the same opponent they would subsequently beat for the championship.
For Aurora, the result will be a frustrating conclusion to an otherwise impressive tournament. Their 2-1 victory over Vitality in the upper-bracket final demonstrated that they could compete with one of Counter-Strike’s biggest names, but they were unable to reproduce the result in the Grand Final. For Vitality, Barcelona ends with another trophy. The Bees will now turn their attention to ESL Pro League Season 24, with the competition in Poland scheduled to begin on October 3.
After months without a tournament victory, Vitality leave Spain with something they had become accustomed to collecting earlier in 2026: a championship.
