Sony will not be providing a warranty for any unauthorized purchases of the PlayStation 5 outside their distribution channel, i.e. in countries where the distribution has not started yet.

The hype built around the PlayStation 5 doesn’t seem to cool off and for good reason. The next-generation console has everything that can justify Sony waiting till 2020 to drop it. With ever generation, the consoles have narrowed the gap between them an PCs and now it seems closer than ever.

Everything about the PS5 speaks excellence, so it’s natural for everyone to squeeze in a PS5 through grey markets in areas where Sony is yet to distribute. Grey markets might get you what you want, but it comes with its fair share of risks. Sony has backed out of providing services covered under warranty for such imported consoles.

“We advise our customers to check for the official Sony India Warranty card at the time of purchase to avail warranty benefits within India and in this context, it is important to note that PlayStation products marketed by Sony India are certified based on India safety standards stipulated by BIS,” the console makers announced their decision to MensXP.

Several fans have imported the consoles for unbelievable prices, but on the off chance of things going south with the specific console piece, Sony will not be compelled to provide any services covered under warranty. They advise fans to wait till the launch.
