Nations Cup – International Esports Championship launched in India by Piyush Goyal

With the Esports becoming the next big trend worldwide,many countries and businesses have tried to tap into the growing influence of this global phenomenon. Many countries have also dedicated special resources towards developing and promoting the esports industry in their nation.

Similarly, in a bid to boost the esports penetration in India, Minister of Commerce and industry, Piyush Goyal launched The Nations Cup. The Nations Cup is an International Esports Championship which is to be held at the Global Exhibition on Services 2019 in Bengaluru. The announcement for which was made during a curtain raiser event of GES 2019 in ITC Maurya, New Delhi where Mr. Goyal also unveiled the Trophy for Nations Cup and talked about the Event. He said:

I was very delighted to hear the report which was shared in terms of the efforts to bring Animation & Esports into the country, this is the new age world that India needs to engage with.”

The Nations Cup will be a 2 Day event where Day 1 will only feature the Indian Qualifiers, the winner of which will represent India at the Nations Cup. Day 2 onwards, eight teams from different countries will compete (including the winning Indian team from Day 1) for the Trophy of Nations Cup.  

Seven esports team have been invited from different countries including Australia, Japan, Nepal, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Vietnam, etc.

Nations Cup will be organised by SEPC (Services Export Promotion Council) in association with ESFI (Electronic Sports Federation of India) and will be held from 27th to 28thNov,19. The Nations Cup will be one the key highlights of Global Exhibition on Services and will help in promoting the Esports, Gaming and Animation industry to multiple avenues.
