C9 keep the USA flag high at Boston Major

6

One of the best Major experience to have developed, C9 finally took the trophy home. FaZe and Cloud9 battled it in the best of three (14-16 Mirage, 16-10, 22-19). It was never a one-sided affair for the teams in the playoffs, such as the story in the grand finals. It took the organizers to present two OT (overtimes) for the results to be derived in the finals.

C9 becoming the first North American team to win theย Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major, they defeated the European’s prideย FaZe Clan in the grand finals of the ELEAGUE Major: Boston earlier today.

The finals began with a bo3 series in whichย Mirage, Overpass, and Infernoย were played.

Letโ€™s go through the activities on each map:

Map one, Mirage, although being one of the Cloud9’s pick, The North American squad ran all over the european defence with 7-1 lead.

Unfortunately for the home crowd, Cloud9’s response came too lateโ€”as FaZe completed the comebackย  and went into the second map of the series on tournament point.

Mirage ended in favor of European Side, 16-14.

C9 kept their place secured with a mind-blowing 12-3 Counter-Terrorist start and an even better Terrorist side Overpass. Despite loosing rounds FaZe tried their best to get back into the game after winning the second pistol round but guys, the North American side were too strong for them to overcome.ย The amazing Plays from C9’s side overwhelming the Europeans, Overpass ended with a scorline of 16-10 with Tarik ‘tarik’ Celik from Cloud9 top fragging the server with 22 kills.

The final map of the tournament Inferno, began in the favor of FaZe Clan. After sufffering many early round losses, the Europeans came back to win seven rounds in a row. Cloud9’s best efforts saw the first half end 8-7 in favor of FaZeโ€”but after a victory in the second pistol round, Cloud9’s hopes looked to be dwindling fast.ย FaZe eventually reached match point, but after attempting to end the game with two forcebuys, Cloud9 capitalized on the opportunity and forced the series to overtime.ย Almost immediately, Jake “Stewie2k” Yip put on a hero-level performance to secure the initial round of overtime. Cloud9 concluded the series 2-1 with a 22-19 final map score.

By taking home the $500,000 prize money Cloud9 became the first North American Counter-Strike Team to win a Major Championship.

Eleague Major Boston final standings:

1. Cloud9 – $500,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ย ย Status
2. FaZe – $150,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
3-4. SK – $70,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
3-4. Natus Vincere – $70,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
5-8. mousesports – $35,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
5-8. fnatic – $35,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
5-8. Quantum Bellator Fire – $35,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
5-8. G2 – $35,000 + โ€œLegendsโ€ Status
9-11. Space Soldiers
9-11. Gambit
9-11. Vega Squadron
12-14. Astralis
12-14. States Liquid
12-14. BIG
15-16. Virtus.pro
15-16. North

Tarik “tarik” Celik was named MVP of the tournament by HLTV considering his consistent gameplay in the grand finals and throughout the tournament. Incidentally, this is the first time the 21-year-old has been awarded with the Most Valuable Player of the tournament title and it comes just five months after he left OpTic together with RUSH to further his career on Cloud9. He had the highest number of kills (258) alongside teammate autimatic, and was in the top 5 in four other categories, including ADR (87.8) and KAST (76.1%).

SK to move to Immortals

2

According to an unconfirmed report from VPESPORTS,ย The SK Gaming Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster is apparently set to leave the organization and move to Immortals in the next few months.

The currentย Brazilian lineup ofย Gabriel “FalleN” Toledo, Fernando “fer” Alvarenga, Marcelo “coldzera” David, Epitรกcio “TACO” de Melo, and Ricardo “boltz” Prass is currently one of the best lineup/team in the world after taking down Joรฃo “felps” Vasconcellos from the current lineup by replacing him with boltz, the team has gained astounding success, during that span of time SK managed to pull offย four championships, including the ESL Pro League Season Six Finals to round out 2017.

Since, Immortals last sale of their roster to Nadeshot’s 100Thieves, which includeย ย Lincoln “fnx” Lau, Lucas “LUCAS1” Teles, and Henrique “HEN1” Teles, theย Immortals has been without a fullย Counter-Strikeย roster since December.

Although the report states that “First rumoured before Christmas, the potential deal to take Gabriel โ€˜Fallenโ€™ Toledo, Fernando โ€˜ferโ€™ Alvarenga, Epitรกcio โ€˜TACOโ€™ de Melo, Ricardo โ€˜boltzโ€™ Prass and the worldโ€™s best player Marcelo โ€˜coldzeraโ€™ David to Immortals has been unofficially confirmed by a number of sources. As a move, it makes sense for both parties, with the main motivation from the SK team being dissatisfaction with the management at the organization, and the owners of SK needing to divest themselves of conflicting investments in the CS scene, as well as having doubts about the long-term profitability of team ownership.”

However, both parties are motivated to make the move happen and Immortals recently invested in the legendary Made In Brazil (MIBR) brand in December 2017, further adding fuel to the fire. According to sources, the team is still under contract at the time of writing, but their contracts are set to expire in the near future, making the deal potentially cheaper for Immortals than it might otherwise have been.

According to the report from ESPN,ย SK parent company ESForce is also the parent company of Virtus Pro, and the former owner of Natus Vincere. ESForce was reportedly acquired by Mail.ru for $150 million on Jan. 21.

If the move does go through it will create waves in the world of CS:GO, and reaffirm Immortalsโ€™ commitment to a game and scene that has not treated them kindly in the last few months. What it means for SK Gaming is another matter, both in terms of the loss of profile that will ensue and the withdrawal of ESForceโ€™s financial support, although a smart venture capitalist looking to invest in the scene would be wise to consider a brand that has been in esports for more than twenty years, were it to go up for sale.

If the roster makes their way to immortals, Immortals will have a complete Brazilian Counter Strike lineup after 3 months to compete atย the highest level ofย Counter-Strike.

FaZe ships mousesports home

1

FaZe has managed to defeat mousesports in the first game of the quarter finals of ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018. The journey of mousesports, with this defeat, comes to an end. FaZe beat mousesports 19-16 in Nuke and a convincing 16-9 in Cache.

The fate of the game could’ve been different, should mousesports have taken the 29th round serious enough. A chain of unwanted mistakes by the dominant side, led the scoreboard towards their own fatality. So much so, that they are now no longer a part of the playoffs.

The game on Nuke, which was mousesports pick, started off FaZe trailing marginally behind their opponents. Despite their tough start, FaZe steered their way to a scoreline of 13-15 in the second half of the game. Couple of mistakes by Mousesports led FaZe to 14-15, where Niko presented his contention to win the game. The courageous attempt to clutch a 1v2 got success and FaZe leveled the score at the end of regular thirty rounds.

Although mousesports were able to get the first round in overtime, it wasn’t enough. Olofmeister and NiKo led FaZe, won four consecutive rounds to secure a victory in the first map.

In the second map Cache, chosen by FaZe, mousesports had a rough start. Even though, they were able to get five rounds on the board in the first half, the game was still in total control of FaZe Clan and ended 16-9.

The best of three quarter finals ended in favor of FaZe 2-0 and they now are the first semi-finalist of Boston Major 2018.

Virtus.pro could release TaZ & Neo

3

The Polish Counter Strike Team Virtus.Pro could replace one of their legendary players Wiktor โ€œTaZโ€ Wojitasย  from their active lineup after a crushing 0-3 elimination at Eleague Major 2018.ย A lineup change for the long lasting CS:GO roster could finally happen.

According to a report by esports journalist Jarek โ€œDeKayโ€ Lewis, Virtus.pro has informed Wiktor โ€œTaZโ€ Wojtas that he will be replaced with Team Kinguinโ€™s Michal “MICHU” Mรผller.ย ย The only problem could be the transfer fee whichย reportedly is around $310,000.

Furthermore, Virtus.Pro warned Filip โ€œNEOโ€ Kubski of their underperformance. The management urged that Neo will have to follow his way out of the team along with TaZ if the performance doesn’t improve. This means that, the trio ofย Jaroslaw โ€œpashaBicepsโ€ Jarzabkowski, Janusz โ€œSnaxโ€ Pogorzelski, and Pawel โ€œbyaliโ€ Bielinski will remain as theย longest-standing lineup inย CS:GOย history.

However, in an interview with HLTV, Kinguin’s Giovanni Varriale stressed that the organisation is not looking to sell MICHU at this time.

“It is hard to comment on something we know from ‘internet rumours,” the Kinguin chief told HLTV.org.

“All we can say right now is that we are happy with the current team setup and we have no intention to sell any of our players.”

This could mean thatย Virtus.proย will have to meet the player’s valuation, reported to be in the region of $300,000, for a deal to come through.

Meet The Legends of ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018

The major is just a few days away and we’re in the process of introducing our readers with a recap. What unfolded in the Major this year was similar to the upsets we witnessed during Krakowย Major. The Legends of ELEAGUE is somewhat diluted. Adjacent to that, even this time, we only see two teams retaining their Legend status for the playoffs.

The most disappointing and heartbreaking result of this year’s Major was the exclusion of Virtus.pro from Major status, for the first time ever in the last eight prequels.

Derived from PGL Krakow 2017 Major, the legends entering into Boston Major 2018 were:

  • Gambit
  • Fnatic – retaining Legends
  • Immortals
  • Virtus.pro
  • SK Gaming – retaining Legends
  • BiG
  • North
  • Astralis

The legends in the previous year also somewhat seemed like a result of multiple upsets during the group stages. In this season, however, the outcome of this Major has been unknowingly startling.

Only Fnatic & SK are among the teams who were able to prove their Legend status for this year’s Major. Which also marks the halt of Virtus.Pro’s Legend-ary run for all these years.ย New Legends comprised of the retaining one’s at Boston Major 2018 will start their playoff battle from tomorrow.

The Legends of ELEAGUE

We take you through the journey of Legends (until the next major) on their way to the playoffs of this season.

FaZe Clan

A journey from ELEAGUE Main Qualifiers to earning the Legend status, FaZe have proved their worth to the masses. They beat Natus Vincere in the Main Qualifier 16-4 before entering into the group stages. Led by rain, karrigan & Olofmeister, FaZe had the desired start to the Major. Olofmeister played against his ex-organization all charged up in the second game where they beat Fnatic by a convincing scoreline of 16-8 in Cache. While the rest of his team had a K/D Ratio of 1.30, Olofmeister led Faze with his 25-17 confident numbers.

The second game versus Vega Squadron was even more favorable for the FaZe side. A 12-3 first half and a consecutive quad round in the second half progressed FaZe as 16-3 in the game and 2-0 in the series.

Third time facing the giant SK with world champions FalleN, fer and coldzera, FaZe did not seem to hesitate. After a tough fight in the first half, GuardiaN led the team to victory as they closed the second half with a strong possession of the game and a scoreline of 2-11. The game ended 16-12 in favor of FaZe. They remain undisputed 3-0 in this year’s Major yet.

Mousesports

After winning two consecutive games from ELEAGUE Main Qualifiers against AVANGAR & Natus Vincere, mousesports qualified the ELEAGUE Major 2018. Their first game win against Astralis was also a moral victory for the side since the score hovered at 16-2.

Their group stage 1-0 game versus SK Gaming was rather a tough battle. The Brazilian powerhouse did all they could and clinched the victory in their favor with a scoreline of 16-12. The team was ported to the 1-1 league. The next game versus QBF was a devastating experience. They could not win three rounds to secure a victory, instead, Quantum Bellator Fire was allowed to come back into the game from a score line of 2-13.

The game extraordinarily ended at 16-14 in the favor of QBF, making it one of the most amazing comebacks ever in this year’s major.

Their elimination game versus Space Soldiers was dicey at first, but the guys at mousesports were able to take control of the game and closed the scoreboard, still at 16-13, hence, advancing to the playoffs.

Natus Vincere

The Legends of ELEAGUE

Luck is the word for the Ukrainian conglomerate. Not to emphasizing on comparatively soft opponents they were matched against, they beat fnatic 16-7 on Inferno which is considered to be an even map for both the sides.

Natus Vincere beat BIG 16-1, Liquid 16-9 and was beaten by Gambit 5-16 before they defeated Fnatic and made their way to the playoffs.

Quantum Bellator Fire

Rags to riches, QBF’s incredible feat of Legend entitlement is what people need to follow. QBF had to prove their stature from Main Qualifiers to the Group Stages before they were sent to playoffs.

  • 8-16 vs Natus Vincere
  • 16-13 vs Flash
  • 6-16 vs FaZe
  • 16-12 vs EnVyUs
  • 16-6 vs AVANGAR
  • 16-3 vs Virtus.Pro
  • 19-16 vs Gambit
  • 4-16 vs G2
  • 16-14 vs mousesports

By far, this is the only team which has played nine games this year to get into the Legend status. They even pulled off a major upset versus mousesports on train, where they came back all the way from 2-13 to 16-14.

G2 Esports

3-0 feat into the Major, G2 Esports is among the undisputed teams, taking a spot into the playoffs at the Major. In the group stages, post the main qualifiers, G2 were matched against Cloud9, Liquid, & QBF. Thrice, they stumped their opponents with a convincing 16-8, 16-8 and 16-4 respectively.

It will be fun to watch the two deadly Frenchmen KennyS and shox playing on the same side of the fence during the playoffs.

Cloud9

North American pride Cloud9 is among the eight Legends this year. Their first game loss versus Space Soldiers was the only defeat the team has seen at this year’s Major.

They faced Virtus.pro, Astralis & Vega Squadron and defeated them strongly with 16-7, 16-6 and 16-4 scores on the board. They will fly the American flag highrise at the ELEAGUE Boston Major 2018.

SK Gaming

The Legends of ELEAGUE

The reason this team is at 3-1 section is only that of their rivals FaZe, who beat them 16-12. Other than that game, SK has been dominating the group stages against all the teams they’ve matched against. Not to overlook the fact that their games were against the not-so-favorite teams, but the playoffs are not too far, where they will be made to play against the legends.

Two times Major champions, one with Luminosity and another with SK, they have one of the most dreadful lineups of all time. Coldzera, considered to be the best player in the world in all-form of weaponry backed by the sharp brainer sniper FalleN and the deadly lurkers Fer and Taco.

fnatic

The Legends of ELEAGUE

After the departure of their heavyweights olofmeister, dennis, fnatic picked up players from Fnatic Academy in Sweden. The team, which now has relatively new players in the form of Lekr0 and Golden had quite a successful run in the Major this year so far. They were beaten by Natus Vincere 7-16 and FaZe 8-16.

Settling down in the 3-2 league, Fnatic has so far defeated Astralis, Virtus.pro, and Gambit. Incidentally, all the three teams they have faced were Legends. So far, Fnatic has proved their legacy to be called as Legends in the majors, we will, however, see what they bring to the playoffs of this Major which begins tomorrow.

Schedule for the playoffs

The $1,000,000 Boston Major 2018 by ELEAGUE enters into playoffs from tomorrow. The Legends of ELEAGUE will battle it out to win the first Major of 2018. The playoffs will feature a best of three.

  • 26th January, 20:30 – FaZe vs mousesports
  • 26th January, 23:00 – Natus Vincere vs QBF
  • 27th January, 01:30 – G2 vs Cloud9
  • 27th January, 20:30 – SK vs Fnatic

The semi-finals of ELEAGUE Major 2018 will be conducted after the quarters’ results are derived on the same day. The second finals, however, will be conducted on the following day.

  • 27th January, 23:00 – ELEAGUE Semifinals #1
  • 28th January 01:30 – ELEAGUE Semifinals #2
  • 29th January 00:30 – ELEAGUE Grand Finals

The tournament favorites are of course SK Gaming for the masses, but there is a lot of potential we saw from the underdogs QBF and the legendary lineup of FaZe. It is only a couple of days away when we will know who takes the trophy and the lion’s share of the prize home.

We call our readers to do some predictions, who do you vouch for? Mention in the comments below and reconcile it with the results, equate your observations!
