Opinion about the new Dota 2 matchmaking system

After almost a week after the huge experimental update on the newly reformed matchmaking system and with the community have a mixed opinion about the same, here’s our opinion regarding the new matchmaking system.

First of all, Valve, decided to scrap the concept of solo and party MMR, in order to push players to play with their friends and basically socialize. The concept of party and solo MMR was that the power was given to the player in order to decide whether one wants to queue for a solo game or a party game.

New concept – Core MMR & Support MMR

Valve basically transitioned the ranked roles matchmaking system from the Dota plus to the normal matchmaking system making it available to everyone. But after the update, we’ve seen people queue for a support role and instead of picking a support hero to end up picking core heroes and spoil the game. It can be because of a low behaviour score but not always.

Players ignoring the role that they queued into.

After the experimental update rolled out, Valve received a lot of complains that players queue for a support role and end up picking core heroes, Valve decided to punish such players by increasing the report frequency to 5 and penalizing the players that fail to pick the heroes according to the roles decided.

Major MMR difference

After the experimental update, Valve devices to take the average of part and solo MMR. Now the impact this has is massive for example if a player has 2k solo MMR and has 5k party MMR then the player will end up queuing with divine or high-level ancient players, now this may spoil the ranked experience for others.

How to improve the experimental update?

If a player queues for a support role, after finding the match the hero grid should limit the ability to choose a hero to only support heroes and hence revoking the power to pick a core hero and spoiling the game.

Although this update caters massively to the high MMR system, but that’s only 10% of the entire Dota 2 community. Majority of the players are not happy with the new matchmaking system.

Valve has promised improvements to the matchmaking system with community feedback after The International ends.

PUBG Mobile 0.14.0 Update Reveals new Zombie mode

Tencent is known for rolling out regular updates for Pubg Mobile with innovative and exciting content to keep the players tapped in this massively popular Battle Royale game, and so another update is on its way!

The update will be released on Aug. 14 and will modify the existing zombie mode of the battle royale game. The new zombie mode was teased during the Spring Split finals of the PUBG Mobile Club Open last month. The 0.14.0 beta revealed what the new zombie mode will be like. The mode will be called โ€œInfectionโ€ and will consist of two opposing teams fighting for victory. One team will be the human players while the other will be zombies. What makes this new model so unique is that players can now play as zombies instead of just fighting as humans for their own survival.

The players can use guns and melee weapons to attack whereas the zombies will have to rely on their basic attacks and abilities to fight the players. Players who are killed by the zombies will join their side. The team surviving upon the countdownโ€™s end will be declared victorious.

Owing to the seven seas theme that Tencent has been teasing for the past few weeks, the menu of the game has been customized to a dock with ships in the background. A seven seas outfit and emote, along with a pirate-skinned boat, has been added to the Erangel spawn area as well. They are also coming up with a new character system where each character will have a defined skill set which is restricted to the Evo ground. One of these characters is Victor whose special skill comes in the form of reduced reloading time on submachine guns.

Some UI changes are expected which will make the menu more structured and easy to navigate. The map selection tab will be completely revamped and the waiting lobby in the game will have helicopters as well.

OpTic Gaming add cajunb, remove refrezh

Optic, the Danish team, have added Renรฉ “cajunb” Borg to replace Ismail “refrezh” Ali in the active roster.

The move was announced by Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen on his Twitlonger, explaining that the former Cloud-9 stand-in seemed like a better fit for the team and โ€œfinally clicked in-gameโ€ following a turbulent period of 4 months due to mixed results and failing to qualify for the Europe Minor.

MSL placed emphasis on the Optic situation. He spoke about how about the lineup is looking for an organisation to represent them after Immortals Gaming Club bought out OpTicโ€™s brand for their Call of Duty Pro League slot. This created a conflict of interest as an organisation cannot own two Counter-Strike teams and IGC are owners of MiBR. Thus, leaving the Danes homeless. He added that only three of the players had a buyout associated with them and the other two, cajunb and teses, are free agents.

The team has set its goal to break the Top 10 HLTV rankings in the next 4 months.

The new lineup which OpTic will feature after the changes will be:

  • Kristian “k0nfig” Wienecke
  • Mathias “MSL” Lauridsen
  • Nikolaj “niko” Kristensen
  • Rene “TeSeS” Madsen
  • Renรฉ “cajunb” Borg

Dendi parts ways with Na’Vi

What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word DENDI? Naโ€™ vi.

Natus Vincere=Dendi and Dendi=Natus Vincere.

But that is not the case anymore.

Earlier today, Danil “Dendi” Ishutin was released from his contract by Natus Vincere, at the playerโ€™s request.

Although Dendi was not still a part of the active Dota 2 roster, he was still contracted to the organisation.

Dendi was the face of DOTA 2 for the first few years of Dota 2, when the game was new.

His major accomplishments are winning The International 1 and placing second at TI 2 and TI 3.

Danil “Dendi” Ishutin:

Together with NAVI, Iโ€™ve come a long way, with many ups and downs. Iโ€™ve made an incredible number of friends, many of whom Iโ€™m still in touch with. An unthinkable amount of fond memories.
For me, itโ€™s a huge part of my life and NAVI is in my veins: 8 years of action! But I have new achievements ahead of me. I appreciate and hug everyone, Iโ€™ll see you around!

Yevhen Zolotarov, ะกะ•ะž Natus Vincere:

On behalf of the organization and all employees, we would like to tank Danya for his time in NAVI. For professionalism and loyalty to our club, as well as for the emotions we have experienced together.
Much love and we wish you good luck in reaching new heights!

Danil “Dendi” Ishutin appealed to the management of the club with a request for early termination of the contract. Talking into account his contribution to the development of Natus Vincere, as well as his achievements, the club met the wishes and released him from contractual obligations, so starting from today Dendi becomes a free agent.

Danil will talk about his future plans after The International 2019, where he will be present as an analyst.

Dendi represented NAVI in the competitive stage for 2170 days and played 1507 matches as a midlaner of the team.

We all love seeing Dendi in the black and gold colours of Natus Vincere and will surely miss him.

ESPN and ABC pulls Apex Legends tournament broadcast following mass shootings

0

After the two mass shooting that took place in the US last weekend, many politicians have come forward and blamed โ€œviolent video gamesโ€ as the main reason for the deterioration of human values and cause of ever-rising mass shooting incidents.

Following the public condemnation by President Donald Trump, ESPN and ABC have pulled out of broadcasting the upcoming Apex Legends EXP invitational tournament that was scheduled to take place this weekend. As a result, EA has rescheduled the broadcast for the event with no confirmed date as of now.

Unlike other battle royale games, Apex Legends is similar to the cartoonish style of Fortnite and doesnโ€™t feature blood and gore like PUBG, Call Of Duty, Battlefield, etc. But even with ESRB rating of Teen, the first-ever tournament of the game was stopped from broadcasting live on television.

With the Trump administration blaming videos games for the mass shooting and ensuring stricter regulation of the industry many veterans from the gaming industry were left speechless and opposed this decision.

The Entertainment Software Association refuted President Trumpโ€™s claims and said:

More than 165 million Americans enjoy video games, and billions of people play video games worldwide. Yet other societies, where video games are played as avidly, do not contend with the tragic levels of violence that occur in the U.S.

Stopping the broadcast of esports tournaments on live television wonโ€™t help in curbing the trigger happy mentality of the people. Rather stricter gun laws and better mental health programs will help in improving the overall situation. But the politicians believe otherwise and are only using โ€œvideo gamesโ€ as a scapegoat to further delay the talks about stricter gun laws.
