Dota 2 makes its debut in 2019 SEA Games

Esports is among the sports which are set to be a part of the SEA games 2019 that is to be held at Manila later this year. The event is set to be held at FilOil Flying V Sports Arena in San Juan. Last year SEA games featured esports as a demonstration sport with popular titles such as Hearthstone, Starcraft 2, Clash Royale and Arena of Valor. The limitation on the titles are clearly visible from last year, but this year SEA games promises a even bigger library of esports titles on the line with a lot of new debuts.

The SEA Games which are to be held from November 30th to December 11th will feature 6 titles among which 3 are new debuts. The titles include Hearthstone, Starcraft 2, Arena of Valor, Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, Tekken 7 and DOTA 2. You probably figured out the new debuts among the above mentioned already, but just to be clear the new debuts are DOTA 2, Tekken 7 and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

DOTA 2 among the other debuts might be the biggest attraction of SEA games 2019 because SEA has a massive fan-base for the game. The craze for MOBA games is easily visible in countries like the Philippines and DOTA 2 is undoubtedly the game which reigns supreme in popularity among the fans in SEA.

DOTA 2 is a 5 vs 5 tower defense game where the objective is to fight enemy heroes in 3 lanes and to finally take down the main tower or the Ancient of your foe to win the game while making sure you don’t lose your own Ancient. The game was originally a mod of the very popular RTS game Warcraft 3 named Defense of the Ancients from way back in 2003, Valve Corporation built up DOTA 2 based on the original game with the help of the people who worked on the original DotA and released the game in 2013 after 2 years of beta testing. DOTA 2 didn’t disappoint fans because it took everything from Defense of the Ancients and built upon it to create a perfect sequel to the already popular game. Currently DOTA 2 is one of the most celebrated MOBA titles in the entire world and features tournaments like The International which is a multi-million dollar tournament with prize pools so high that barely any game comes close to it in terms of prize money.

So, without a doubt it will be great to watch a fan favorite like DOTA 2 making it into SEA games 2019 and to see how the teams play it out at the event.

FaZe faces elimination at the StarLadder CSGO Major

Renegades have secured a 2-1 victory over FaZe in the second elimination series of the day at the Berlin Major.

The battle of survival for the two teams began at Mirage. The Australian team took a win in the early pistol round and managed to get a 3-0 lead only to be shut down by Olof “olofmiester” Kajbjer picking up a quad kill with his AWP to secure FaZe their first round. Renegades performed well regardless and managed to keep their composure to put up a score of 9-6. FaZe managed to get the pistol round on the T-side thanks to an insane glock quad kill coming out from olofmeister. FaZe and Renegades traded rounds back to back until a 1v2 clutch from Hรฅvard “rain” Nygaard allowed FaZe to secure map point on Mirage. However, the success of FaZe was short-lived as Renegades took 3 rounds back to back and forced the map into overtime. In overtime, Renegades outclassed FaZe and secured a 22-19 win with the first map in their name.

Map two for the day was Nuke. FaZe started off with a very strong T-side thanks to the contributions of Nikola “NiKo” Kovaฤ, rain and olofmeister and allowed them to secure a 13-2 lead in the first half. The second half went as expected, Renegades were overwhelmed by FaZe and only managed a single round win. The second map concluded with a 16-3 win for FaZe and the series being drawn out 1-1.

The third map was Vertigo. Even on Vertigo FaZe managed to build up momentum and took a 7-0 lead early on. The momentum that FaZe built up was cut short thanks to a triple kill coming out from Sean “Gratisfaction” Kaiwai. The first half ended with FaZe taking a 10-5 lead. The second half went all wrong for FaZe as Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad and Aaron “AZR” Ward opened up with double kills in the pistol round with their USP-S. FaZe tried their best to prevent Renegades from securing a comeback but their combined effort was cut short by an outstanding triple kill from jkaem in the 17th round. With the score tied 14-14, FaZe lost a crucial round and was left with poor economy which resulted in them losing to Renegades 14-16 on the third map.

The series thus concluded with a 2-1 victory for Renegades over FaZe in the BO3 elimination series at the Berlin Major.

Virtus.pro made its name with its lineup which won a CS:GO Major in 2014. The legendary Major winning lineup included Filip โ€œNEOโ€ Kubski, Wiktor โ€œTaZโ€ Wojtas, Janusz โ€œSnaxโ€ Pogorzelski, Paweล‚ โ€œbyaliโ€ Bieliล„ski, and Jarosล‚aw โ€œpashaBicepsโ€ Jarzฤ…bkowski. Currently Snax is the only one who remains under Virtus.pro team banner today from the old lineup.Paragraph

After parting ways with its Major winning lineup, Virtus.pro has failed to perform well or make any significant achievement in the International scene. The current Virtus.pro squad only managed a 3rd-4th place finish at Moche XL Esports 2019 and Good Game League 2019 but failed to qualify for the Berlin Major after losing to BIG in the closed qualifiers for the Major.

โ€œThe novices are just children, like other people their age that need to grow, develop their skills and explore their interests,โ€

โ€œWe wanted to give the students an opportunity. A lot of them donโ€™t have that coming from poor families or broken homes, The three want to compete, they asked to. So we gave them the opportunity.โ€ chuckled Kokkiad Chaisamchareonlap, a monk and academic coordinator at the school.

While on Social Media, some criticized the students for wearing their saffron robes, saying it was โ€œinappropriate.โ€ A few controversies were raised against them and the religious matter.

DreamEaters becomes the first team to be eliminated from the StarLadder Berlin Major

The best-of-three face-off elimination match between Renegades and DreamEaters came to a conclusion with Renegades closing out the series 2-0 over DreamEaters and eliminating them from the Berlin Major.

The first map was Mirage. DreamEaters successfully got 2 initial rounds to themselves as an early advantage on the map. But, their success was short-lived as the rifles coming out from Aaron “AZR” Ward and Justin “jks” Savage pulled the tides in favor of Renegades. By the end of the first half, DreamEaters were still holding their ground against the likes of Renegades with a slight deficit. In the second half, however, Renegades absolutely dominated the lineup of DreamEaters and closed out the map easily in their favor.

The next map on the line was Train. Renegades took the early pistol round lead due to the excellent performance of AZR and Joakim “jkaem” Myrbostad stopping the attacking DreamEaters right on their tracks. The Australian squad stood their ground and their defense seemed impenetrable and they closed out the first half by a large margin in their favor. The Russian team tried their best to make a comeback as it was a do or die situation for them, but they were made quick work of by the strong-looking Australian squad. The BO3 series was closed out with Renegades coming out victorious and securing a clean win over DreamEaters going 2-0 against them.

This win over DreamEaters allowed Renegades to retain their grounds at the Major after losing their first two games. The same could not be said for DreamEaters however, with no wins in their bag and with an overall score of 0-3 at the Major they will be the first team to be eliminated from the StarLadder Berlin Major.

Liquid faces humiliating loss at StarLadder Berlin Major and goes on the brink of elimination.

1

The best rated team in the world by HLTV, Team Liquid has failed to impress its fans at the StarLadder Berlin Major. In one of the most unexpected way possible, Team Liquid lost to AVANGAR 22-18 on Overpass. AVANGAR is considered to be a very low-tier team and fans were expecting Team Liquid to crush their lineup, but things went horribly wrong for Team Liquid today. Now facing 1-2 at the Majors, Team Liquid is at the brink of elimination with a possibility that they would not even qualify for Legend status at the Major.

AVANGAR was in fine shape and played a great match against Team Liquid. Although, Team Liquid took an early advantage of 5-0 after getting a 5vs1 plant executed by a perfect early rush, Dzhami “Jame” Ali was there to save the day for AVANGAR and dropped two crucial frags on round six to bring the score to 9-6 in the first half.

The pistol round in second half was an easy win for AVANGAR and they went on to dominate Team Liquid playing as counter-terrorists in multiple rounds. Keith “NAF” Markovic did his best to save the crumbling hopes of Team Liquid by carrying out a close 1vs2 clutch but that didn’t stop AVANGAR from dragging the game into overtime where they defeated Team Liquid to close it out at the Major.

Liquid will play their next match on Aug. 31 and will face another team thatโ€™s in the 1-2 bracket.
