PUBG loses 82% of its players in 22 months

9

It has not been a great year for Player Unknown’s Battlegrounds as it is down by 82% of its player base compared to January 18, the game’s peak position. The average player count over the past weeks has been lingering around 288,848 compared to 1,584,886 concurrent players back in Jan 2018. That is a massive inexplicable drop with no specific reason.

Tencent is trying hard to pump these numbers back up with regular patches and updates for the game but nothing seems to work. The recently released, update 5.1 with the new season 5 brought loads of new content to the game ranging from map reworks to throw-able melee weapons. Finally Tencent decided to make these melee weapons useful and as an additioin, players can also throw supplies to their team mates as well. Tencent has had a uniform history of constantly updating its titles in order to keep the players ever busy.

This drop in stats does not bring upon any immediate credible threat upon the firm as its other titles like PUBG: Mobile, Arena of Valor and the newly launched Call of Duty: Mobile are always seen at the top spots on every statistical sheet. Changing trends, increased emphasis on mobile gaming, tough competition from other Battle Royale titles like Apex Legends and Fortnite are the most probable cause for this drop in players. These rival Battle Royale titles have been racking up impressive numbers as Apex Legends recently hit 70 million players worldwide. Tencent needs to step up their game and preserve then reclaim players restoring this Battle Royale masterpiece to its former status.

s1mple leaks next CSGO Major location

CSGO majors are twice in year event that brings together all the fans across the world to celebrate few days of amazing Counter-Strike. The stakes remain high because other than the prestige it carries, it boasts a $1 Million prize pool. Before a CSGO season, the host of both majors are announced along with the host nation. But the worlds best player might have hinted us on the next oneโ€™s location.

S1mple who had a disappointing exit in Blast Copenhagen was spending time with his fans over at an Instagram broadcast when on of the footballโ€™s biggest star, PSG foreward Neymar Jr hopped into his broadcast. S1mple was quick to greet him before potentially leaking the next majorโ€™s Host Nation. S1mple said it to be Brazil and that he expects Neymar to be in the attendance.

If what s1mple hinted at is true, South Americans are in for a treat as they are going to have the first major ever hosted in their continent. Once againt the potential location is leaked around 7 months prior to the major, which is unlikely to point towards a coencidance. Nothing has been confirmed by Valve or the organizers yet. Although Neymar is very likely to attend the event as Brazil has produced a lot of top CSGO talents notably the MIBR squad and being a player himself, it will be hard to resist a major.

s1mple to stay with Natus Vincere until late 2020

The 2018 worldโ€™s no 1 Counter-Strike player Oleksandr “s1mple” Kostyliev is expected to stay with Natus Vincere until December of next year according to DBLTAP. The timing of this arrangement have not been disclosed yet, and neither the player or the organization went public about it.

Back in 2017 NaVi signed S1mple along with flamie, since then their roster went through some significant changes. The Russian organization saw Edward getting loaned out with Zeus hanging his mouse up. They signed back GuardiaN and Boombl4 to complement the roster with Boombl4 to take up the IGL role. Getting GuradiaN on the AWP meant s1mple will have less time on the weapon, which saw him transit back to an assault player, only to play the big green as a secondary to the Slovak.

Since such changes in the rosters, Naโ€™Vi went up to semifinals of DreamHack Masters Malmรถ and had a clean qualifier group for ESL Pro League Season 10. This change also recorded their worst tournament where they made a group stage exit from i-League Season 8.

olofmeister becomes the most successful CSGO player of all time with Blast Pro Copenhagen victory

Faze Clan dominated the Blast Pro Copenhagen Round Robin stage and persevered through the finals in straight maps over Ninjas in Pyjamas to record their first title with the current iteration of their roster. Their last LAN success coincidentally, also came at a Blast Pro event in Miami in April, 2019.

Niko ‘Niko’ Kovacs was labelled the MVP of the event at Copenhagen. But, it was Olof ‘olofmeister’ Kajbjer who achieved quite the feat. The Swedish Counter Strike legend amped up his trophies won to a whopping 25, becoming the first player to reach the number and sit comfortably atop the charts in the list of the most successful CSGO players of all time.

To give the readers some context, olofmeister was earlier tied with fellow Swede Richard ‘Xizt’ Landstrom on 24 trophies, with Christopher ‘GeT_Right’ Alesund and Patrik ‘f0rest’ Lindberg on 23 each.

With the first title under their belt, this current iteration of the Faze Clan roster is looking like a threat again. It will be interesting to see how many more trophies olofmeister can add to his ever-growing list of titles with the current Faze Clan roster.

FaZe defeat NiP to win BLAST Pro Series Copenhagen

FaZe Clan takedown Ninjas In Pyjamas to win the Blast event and they did that in a stunning fashion. FaZe reached the Finals only dropping a single map against Liquid at their last fixture in the group stage while NIP reached there losing only to FaZe and NaVi.

FaZe Clan having previously faced NIP in Dust 2 earlier today were confident going into the match while NIP secured their spot in the Blast World Finals as they secured their top 5 finish in this event. The veto started with NIP picking Nuke, followed by Dust 2 for FaZe and Inferno was left for the decider.

Nuke being a CT sided map didnโ€™t yield the expected results for FaZe as they started on the defence, after winning three rounds straight the momentum made a massive shift towards the side of the Swedes as they earned most rounds after that and edged out FaZe with a 7-8 scoreline favouring them. When things went over to the offensive side for FaZe. The new kid on the block, Helvijs “broky” Saukants showed some exceptional AWPing to push them forward, and after constant shifting of momentum when FaZe were just 2 rounds behind to force overtime, they took a timeout when Coldzera seemed to be very vocal giving specific instructions to his teammates. Whatever Coldzera said did the trick for FaZe as they pushed overtime. While they only managed 1 round in the T side of OT, but their tight defence bailed them out to win the map.

Nuke was followed by Dust 2, where NIP were run over by the international roster. FaZe started their pick on the defensive side, as they kicked things off with a pistol round loss but they went back on the board quickly with a force buy win. Force buys have been so effective for FaZe through the entirety of the tournament which they have won for the most parts, shifting the economic advantage completely. They secured a 5-1 lead before Ninjas were back in control. The match showed us some embarrassing teamkills from both sides. FaZe closed the first half with a single round lead before they went to the offence where they have looked on point. The second half was all FaZe Clan till Simon “twist” Eliasson showed up with a 1v2 pistol round clutch. FaZe were trying out different starts through the game, keeping NIP guessing. The Swedes did good job but not good enough to win the trophy. FaZe Clan found a 2v4 situation between them and a huge victory in Copenhagen when star duo Coldzera and NiKo still alive and their excellent coordination while playing off each other saw them share two kills between them to close out the map and hoist the trophy.

Blizzardโ€™s President apologizes amid Hong Kong Protest at Blizzcon

0

Today, Blizzard Entertainment kicked off its yearly Blizzcon expo at the Anaheim Convention Centre, amid the reports of huge number of protestors gathering outside the venue to protest against companyโ€™s much debated and controversial stand against the Hong Kong Hearthstone esports pro player Chung โ€œBlitzchungโ€ Ng Wai; who used an official post-game stream to protest against Chinese government.

The controversy had engulfed the company for the past month with many players going out of their way to boycott all the products and games that Blizzard Entertainment produces or are associated with.

Today the event started with a direct apology from Blizzardโ€™s President J. Allen Brack himself. On the stage J. Allen Brack addressing the attendees said :

Blizzard had the opportunity to bring the world together in a tough Hearthstone e-sports moment about a month ago. We did not. We moved too quickly in our decision-making and then to make matters worse, we were too slow to talk to all ofyou. When I think about how most unhappy I am, I think about two things. We didnโ€™t live up to the higher standards we set for ourselves. Second, we failed in our purpose. For that, I am sorry, and I accept accountability.

Since the event was livestreamed on Twitch, the Twitch users throughout his statement were filling up the live stream chat with โ€œFREE HKโ€ spam messages and other supporting statements.

Even though the event started with a direct apology from the President himself many people werenโ€™t happy with the response from Blizzard and went on with their protest against Blizzard.

Protestors were dressed as โ€œWinnie The Poohโ€ (a banned cartoon character in China) and were also distributing free Mei T-shirts with โ€œ#MeiWithHongKongโ€ written on it. Mei is a character from Overwatch who originates from Hong Kong locality, so protestors picked her as a mascot for their protest.

Additionally, the security team utilizes game observation to fairly monitor players who have been reported through the gameโ€™s system to ensure only players using additional software or other means of hacking and cheating to deter from the gameโ€™s environment are banned. The team can efficiently observe gameplay to differentiate between the use of unfair software and player skill as well as unusual game occurrences due to lag or packet loss.
