Valorant is rolling out one of its biggest progression overhauls yet with its upcoming patch, and if you’re an avid fan of the shooter, you wouldn’t want to miss out on this one.
Landing with the Valorant 13.06 update on September 22, 2026, the new Agent Mastery system replaces the old Agent Gear setup with a more in-depth process, giving players more ways to flex their Agent progression and unlock additional rewards for their grind.
Valorant’s New Agent Mastery System, Explained
Prior to the update, players were able to unlock Agent Gear in Valorant by purchasing it with Kingdom Points from their favorite Agent’s track. Moving forward, that track is getting revamped into a bigger system built around two separate kinds of progress, in addition to a new currency and a personalization feature.
Every Act, your level with a given Agent resets to zero, so each new season requires players to start grinding their Act Level from scratch.
Lifetime Levels, on the other hand, never reset. This track levels up across your entire history with an Agent, and it’s where your existing Agent Gear rewards have been migrated. Every Act Level you gain with an Agent will also net you a Lifetime Level for that Agent.
That means if you want to keep unlocking gear tied to a specific character, you’ll actually need to log playtime on them going forward.
Powering both tracks is a new currency called Mastery Points. You can earn MP simply by playing matches with an Agent, with extra points awarded for strong individual performance and for winning.
Finally, there are Agent IDs, which are customizable profiles attached to each character that let you show off your dedication. These can display stats, backgrounds, and unlockable stances, and they’re visible to teammates and opponents during Agent Select, similar to the “Lord” icons from Marvel Rivals.
Will Your Old Agent Progress Carry Over in Valorant?
While any Agent Gear you’ve already earned will stay in your inventory, your old progress from any Agent won’t give you any Act Levels or Lifetime Levels for that Agent with this new system. For instance, a player with 1000 hours on Jett will have to start the new Agent Mastery system from scratch, along with every other player.
