Sony Cancels Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, Its Free-to-Play Mobile Shooter

Sony has cancelled Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble. The mobile shooter leaves stores on November 21 and shuts down on May 1, 2027.

Sony has cancelled Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble, its free-to-play mobile multiplayer shooter, a year after it entered soft launch. The game will leave mobile stores on November 21, 2026, and its servers will shut down on May 1, 2027, after which it will no longer be playable.

Ranger Rumble was developed by French mobile studio Oh BiBi in partnership with Insomniac Games, and published by PlayStation. It never got a full worldwide release. The team said on the game’s official website that it had “made the difficult decision to cease development,”.

Ranger Rumble never made it past soft launch

Sony announced Ranger Rumble in November 2025 and launched it the same month in the Philippines and Indonesia, two markets often used to test mobile games before a wider release. It later expanded to Norway, Sweden, Finland, Denmark, France, Canada and the UK.

The game was pitched as a “fast-paced multiplayer platformer arena shooter”, taking Ratchet & Clank’s weapons and characters into short competitive matches built for phones. A year of testing across nine countries was apparently not enough to convince Sony to take it global. The official statement does not give a reason for the cancellation.

If you already have the game installed, you can keep playing until May. New players will not be able to download it after November 21.

Everything is free until the end

The final update changes the game’s economy for its last six months. In-app purchases have been removed, and the Super Pass is now free for every player. Qwark Pass seasons will keep running until the shutdown, so players can still earn rewards just by playing.

It is a fair way to wind a game down. Nobody can spend more money on it, and those still playing get the premium rewards without paying.

Another setback for PlayStation’s live-service plans

Ranger Rumble is the latest PlayStation multiplayer project to be shut down before it found an audience. Sony has spent the last few years pulling back from its once-ambitious live-service plans, most famously with Concord, which was taken offline within weeks of launch in 2024.

For Ratchet & Clank fans, the bigger question is what this means for the series itself. Insomniac’s last mainline entry was Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart in 2021. Neither Sony nor Insomniac has said anything about the main series as part of this announcement, so for now, this is the end of the road for the mobile spin-off only.
