Madhya Pradesh to Launch India’s First Esports Academy

In a groundbreaking move, Madhya Pradesh, a state that has recently emerged as the sports hub of India, is set to launch the country’s first Esports Academy under its sports department. This initiative is aimed at providing young esports players with the opportunity and platform to advance to a professional level, thereby revolutionizing the online gaming industry in India.

The Esports industry in India has seen a significant boom in recent years, with the government taking various measures to ensure the privacy and security of the industry. Online games such as BGMI, Dota 2, COD, Valorant, and CS:GO have seen a drastic surge in Indian players worldwide, attracting numerous esports companies to venture into the country.

The state plans to conduct a talent search program targeting esports enthusiasts aged 12-17 years. The sports department will hold a 10-day tournament, allowing youngsters to participate and showcase their gaming skills. This talent search program will be held during the MP state junior esports championship.

The sports minister, Yashodhara Raje Scindia, stated that the objective behind launching the Esports Academy is to promote sports that have a presence in the Asian Games and Olympics. The academy will provide the youth with an opportunity to hone their skills in these new sports, in addition to traditional sports.

The Esports sector was recently included as a medal sport in the Asian Games 2022 and as a pilot event for the Commonwealth Games 2022. According to a 2021 E&Y evaluation, the esports business is predicted to grow four times faster and reach INR 1,100 crore by 2025. This growth has attracted big esports companies from around the world to venture into India, viewing it as a potential market for business in the upcoming days.

The launch of India’s first Esports Academy in Madhya Pradesh marks a significant milestone in the country’s sports history. It not only recognizes esports as a legitimate sport but also provides a platform for young gamers to nurture their skills and compete at a professional level. With the esports industry on the rise, this initiative is a step in the right direction, promising a bright future for esports in India.
