A new ban wave has swept through Counter-Strike 2, with more than 8,000 players receiving VAC and Game Bans over the past 48 hours.
As per data from csstats.gg, Valve’s competitive shooter recorded nearly 7,000 bans on July 25 alone, more than a tenfold increase compared to the previous day. The crackdown continued over the following day, pushing the total number of bans to over 8,000 across the two-day period.
At the time of writing, it’s still unclear whether these bans targeted bots, cheaters, or any other type of malicious activity. Only a few months ago, the game saw nearly a million farming bot accounts getting wiped in one of the biggest ban waves in CS2 history.
While the devs’ continued efforts in combatting bad actors are certainly welcome by the community. The battle against cheaters in CS2 is far from over.
Since the launch of CS2 Premier Season 5, players have reported encountering a record-high number of cheaters in their Premier matches. The problem is particularly prominent at higher Premier ratings, with many players claiming that high elo matches have become essentially unplayable in recent weeks.
Whether this ban wave significantly improves the Premier experience remains to be seen. However, given the recent spike in cheating reports, many players are hoping it’s just the first of many ban waves aimed at wiping out cheaters from the game.
Needless to say, the CS2 community will be keeping their fingers crossed for further intervention from Valve to improve the current state of Premier matchmaking.
