According to ProSettings, 1280×960, 1440×1080, and 1024×768 are the most popular stretched resolutions at the moment. With three really solid options, it is up to you which one you should opt for if 4:3 is the way you want to go.

- 1440×1080 – For Top-End PCs
The only difference between these resolutions is the clarity of the image. Higher resolution would give a sharper picture at the cost of performance.
With no difference in hit boxes, it comes down to you to decide if your FPS is high enough to handle the higher resolutions. Higher resolution will give you a better feel, but to what extent are you willing to sacrifice your FPS? It is a decision that comes down to you.
