GTA 6 Extended Look Hits 31.1 Million Views on Netflix in 4 Days

GTA 6 Extended Look has become Netflix’s most-watched title in just 4 days, pulling in 31.1 million views since its debut. The 27-minute special topped Netflix’s global English film chart and claimed the No. 1 spot in 87 of 93 tracked countries.

Here is a breakdown of the viewership numbers, what the extended look revealed, and when GTA 6 releases.

GTA 6 Extended Look Netflix Viewership Numbers

Grand Theft Auto VI: An Extended Look” premiered on Netflix on Thursday, Aug. 27, at 3 p.m. ET. By the end of Netflix’s weekly tracking window on Sunday, Aug. 30, it had drawn 31.1 million views.

That number was enough to top Netflix’s English-language film list for the week of Aug. 24, according to Netflix’s own Tudum Top 10 report. The special ranked No. 1 in 87 of the 93 countries Netflix tracks globally.

The crime thriller “The Whisper Man,” starring Robert De Niro, Michelle Monaghan, and Adam Scott, took the No. 2 spot on the same list with 23.2 million views.

How Netflix Counts Views Differently From YouTube

Netflix had only 6 hours of exclusivity on the extended look before Rockstar Games uploaded it to YouTube at 9 p.m. ET the same day. Despite that short window, the special still became Netflix’s most-viewed title of the week.

On YouTube, the video posted to Rockstar Games’ official channel has crossed 17 million views. Variety noted that the two platforms measure viewership differently. Netflix counts a view as total hours watched divided by the title’s runtime, so one household replaying it twice still counts as a single view. YouTube counts a view each time a video starts playing, including repeat plays and partial views.

What GTA 6 Extended Look Revealed

The special was captured entirely from in-game footage on PlayStation 5. It gave fans their most detailed look yet at GTA 6, following 2 earlier trailers released over the past 3 years.

The footage showed protagonists Jason and Lucia in both cinematic and gameplay scenes across Vice City. It also detailed a reworked wanted level system and the mechanic that lets players switch between the 2 protagonists during missions.

GTA 6 Release Date and Pre-Order Surge

GTA 6 is set to release on Nov. 19, 2026, for PS5 and Xbox Series X and S. Ahead of that release, GTA 6 pre-orders reportedly surged 436% on the same day the extended look premiered, based on figures reported by Beebom.
