GTA 6 Extended Look footage arrived on Netflix on August 27, 2026, giving fans their first real look at how Grand Theft Auto 6 plays. Rockstar Games captured the 26-minute presentation entirely in-game on a base PlayStation 5, following protagonists Jason and Lucia through missions across Vice City. The reveal confirmed a returning six-star wanted system, a new slow-motion combat ability, and seamless switching between the two leads mid-mission.
Here is everything the presentation confirmed, along with the release date for GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.
GTA 6 Extended Look: What Rockstar Showed
The GTA 6 Extended Look was exclusive to Netflix for 6 hours before Rockstar released it on YouTube and other platforms the same day. The event was part of a partnership between Rockstar Games and Netflix, and it marked the longest gameplay footage fans have received since the game’s first trailer in December 2023.
The footage opens with Jason and Lucia entering an apartment building to meet local club owner Boobie Ike for a job. After a tense encounter with a corrupt cop, the pair escape through an elevator. From there, the presentation moves through robberies, car chases, and several open-world activities across Vice City and the wider state of Leonida.
Rockstar also confirmed that GTA 6 will run at 30fps at launch, and the studio has not yet said whether a 60fps performance mode will be available.
GTA 6 Wanted System Goes Back to Six Stars
One of the biggest confirmed changes is the wanted system. GTA 6 brings back a six-star maximum wanted level, up from the five stars used in GTA 5. The last mainline entry to use six stars was Chinatown Wars in 2009.
The system goes beyond just adding a star. Small icons now appear below the wanted stars showing what the police actually know: your face, your clothing, your weapon, and your vehicle. The stars themselves change color depending on the situation:
| Star Color | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Black outline (hollow) | Police know a crime happened but have no leads |
| White | Police have a partial description |
| Red | Active pursuit, your location is known |
This means outrunning the police no longer clears your record instantly. Changing clothes, switching vehicles, or covering your face can all affect how fast the heat drops. Rockstar North co-head Rob Nelson said that swapping a simple item, like a hat, can be enough to shake a description.
New Combat Options and the Focus Ability
Both Jason and Lucia get a Dead Eye-style slow-motion targeting ability, shown on screen as a purple meter. Activating it highlights enemy weak points in red and yellow, letting players target specific limbs, disarm opponents, or trigger a cinematic kill camera.
Weapon handling also looks more refined than GTA 5. Both characters can carry their own loadouts and pick up weapons from downed enemies mid-fight. An ammo and equipped-weapon icon similar to the one from GTA 4 now sits near the wanted stars in the top right of the screen.
Cars come with usable trunks, so players can stash spare weapons or a change of clothes before a job, which ties directly into the new wanted system.
Vehicles, Activities, and World Details
The reveal showed a wide range of open-world activities, including basketball, dirt bike racing, street racing, car meets, jet skiing, scuba diving, base jumping, and fishing. E-scooters also appeared as a way to get around Vice City without owning a personal vehicle.
Jason and Lucia’s physical builds react to how players treat them. Regular workouts build muscle, while eating too much adds weight. Food also restores a large chunk of health, giving players a reason to visit restaurants and stores between missions.
Switching between the two protagonists works much as it did in GTA 5, but the presentation showed it happening mid-mission, including once during an active car chase with police in pursuit.
Grand Theft Auto 6 launches on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Rockstar has not confirmed a PC release window.
