FaZe claims IEM Sydney 2018

The European superteam has won the Intel Extreme Masters Sydney pretty convincingly after taking down Astralis 3-0 in the best-of-five grand-finals. FaZe picked up Cache and Train whereas Astralis chose to play Overpass and Inferno. Dust II was left over. FaZe Clan won the whopping sum of $100,000 USD securing the first place followed by Astralis, Mousesports and TyLoo respectively.

Astralis secured the finals-spot by qualifying from the upper-bracket and defeating mousesports in the best-of-three semi-finals. On the contrary, FaZe Clan came along all the way from the lower-bracket by defeating Fnatic and TyLoo in quarter-finals and semi-finals respectively.

Cache is basically one of the strongest map of the FaZe Clan. Eventually, it went down to overtime and Finn “karrigan” Anderson clucthed an insane post-plant 1vs2 against Nicolai “device” Reedtz and Peter “dupreeh” Rasmussen to clinch the first map.

The second map was Overpass, Astralis’ pick, which FaZe Clan won in the second overtime after a nail-biting encounter and Emil “Magisk” Reif trying pretty hard to carry his side with fourty-bombs.

Astralis went on to a good start in the third map by securing it 11-4 on CT side in the first half of Train. Danish in-game-leader Lukas “gla1ve” Rossander had 23 kills in the first-half itself but nonetheless, they lost it 16-14.

TyLoo progresses to the playoffs, SK drops out

Intel Extreme Masters, Sydney 2018 opened the doors of the $250,000 today. The second installment of the event had a quite interesting start of the day. While the first group had its results coming, the remaining group will begin its battle in the following days.

The first group which features heavyweights as FaZe, C9 & SK, failed to go with the odds as all of them plummeted in the upper brackets. Group A matches were:

Tyloo held their ground tight

TyLoo, the underdogs and the Asian pride held their grounds high as they beat SK 19-16 in their first game. Although it took irregular extraordinary rounds to conclude a result. TyLoo came out on top. In their second game, the Chinese went head-on against Cloud9, again one of the top teams.

This time around though, they were able to beat the North American side twice consecutively with a standby map in a best of three.

Disappointment from the Brazilians

As of the current scenario, SK Gaming has been knocked out of the ongoing tournament. Whereas, Cloud9 and FaZe are battling it out to escape the elimination. The disappointed SK couldn’t survive the lower brackets. They lost 1-2 in the best of three survival match against Grayhound, a regional lineup.

SK has had a rough time regaining their top spot following lineup alterations. Cloud9 too was the victim of the same, and since then, both the teams have lost their spots in the top five teams in the world. While Cloud9 still remains in the race, SK has been driven out and labeled a depressing 13th-16th spot at IEM Sydney 2018.

Coverage

Format

There are two groups with eight teams in each, and every group is seemingly more competitive than the last. The groups are shown below from Group A to B, with the matchups and the times displayed next to each game.

Group A

  • FaZe Clan vs. ORDER

  • Legacy vs. Renegades

  • Cloud9 vs. Grayhound

  • Tyloo vs. SK Gaming

Group B

  • Mousesports vs. B.O.O.T-d[S]

  • NRG Esports vs. Astralis

  • G2 Esports vs. MVP PK

  • Chiefs ESC vs. Fnatic

Among the groups, Group A is arguably the more stacked one among the two, with FaZe Clan, Cloud9, TyLoo, and SK Gaming fighting for two playoff spots. Teams that are expected to survive the initial stage include FaZe, Cloud9, and SK Gaming. Group B, however, is the hardest to predict, as all eight teams have a good chance to qualify for the playoffs.

The tournament will be pivotal for a number of teams since many of roasters underwent major roster changes after IEM Katowice in February. FaZe Clan, Cloud9 and SK Gaming made major changes to their lineups, and their performance may be stunted by individual role transitions within their team compositions. Whoever reigns victorious at IEM SYDNEY 2018 will be Counter-Strikeโ€™s best, as all of the teams have had ample of time to refine their roster cohesion and tactics.

OpTic Gaming signs JuGi, snappi and ruggah

1

OpTic Gaming has signed Jacob “JuGi” Hansen and Marco “Snappi” Pfeiffer from Heroic along with North’s former coach Casper “ruggah” Due to form a complete Danish lineup. In this case, Shahzeebย “ShahZaM”ย Khan, Peterย “stanislaw”ย Jarguz and coach Chetย “ImAPet”ย Singh have been benched and the organization is helping them to seek new opportunities elsewhere.

OpTic Gaming ranks third in the North American division of ESL Pro League Season 7. According to ESL rules, participating teams can only make two substitutions during the season. Hence, signing JUGi and Snappi will not prevent OpTiC from playing in the next stage.

Adam “friberg” Friberg will be standing-in for Heroic until the end of ESL Pro League Season 7 and he has already joined the ESEA roster.

Team Liquid acquires TACO from SK Gaming

1

The long-held trade between SK Gaming and TACO finally concluded its final stage this morning. The Brazilian warrior who was with SK Gaming’s lineup for two years has now been successfully traded to Team Liquid.

“Taco has been an integral part of the SK Gaming CS: GO roster for the last two years and itโ€™s always been a real pleasure working with him. Heโ€™s a great teammate, player, and person to be around thanks to his dedication and bright humor. Weโ€™re very proud of everything weโ€™ve accomplished together during his time with us and weโ€™re sad to see him go. However, we respect his wish to do so and have quickly come to terms with the team he chose to continue his career in”, says Alexander Mรผller, Managing Director at SK Gaming.

Whereas, TACO officially stated:

SK was my first professional organization and playing for that legendary tag was a pleasure. I’m happy that I could help them to keep their status as one of the most successful organizations in the world. A big hug to every friend and person in SK that helped me in these years, especially Alex, Jens, Martin, Valeri, Nuno, Jan, etc. Thank you!

TACO was recently benched from SK, following which the German roster picked up Stewie2K from Cloud9, who are now camping in North America. TACO had also mentioned that he will join a North American team, which has now been matured in the form of Team Liquid.

Marvel’s Spiderman is coming to PS4 in September 2018

1

Insomniac Gamesโ€™ย Spider-Manย will launch on Sept. 7, 2018, the studio announced. The news comes out of the cover story fromย this monthโ€™s issue of Game Informer magazine, which offers plenty of other new details about the game.

The release date makesย Spider-Manย one of PlayStation 4โ€™s big tentpoles this fall. The console exclusive is also the first Spider-Man game in years; although itโ€™s not related to 2017โ€™s excellentย Spider-Man: Homecomingย film, the new release certainly capitalizes on the reinvigorated interest in one of Marvelโ€™s most beloved heroes.

Also detailed in Game Informer are various details about the open-world action gameโ€™s missions, combat and crafting options. There are also, of course, side quests to check out โ€” hopefully including some pizza delivery or photography assignments. Sure, this Spider-Man game looks a bit more serious than classics likeย Spider-Man 2, but Peter Parkerโ€™s alter ego is nothing if not down to clown.

While there still revolves a question of the game’s launch on PC / Windows platforms.

The story originally appeared on Polygon.
