Oxford University Study claims of no link between Violence and Video Games

0

A new study by Oxford University has suggested that there is no evidence linking violence to video games.

The idea that violent video games drive real-world aggression is a popular one, but it hasnโ€™t tested very well over time. Despite interest in the topic by parents and policy-makers, the research has not demonstrated that there is cause for concern

Professor Andrew Przybylski, Director of Research at the Oxford Internet Institute.

The study suggests that previous researchers had bias and prejudice that led them to make the conclusion that real world violence was directly related to violent games.

Our findings suggest that researcher biases might have influenced previous studies on this topic, and have distorted our understanding of the effects of video games

Dr Netta Weinstein, Coresearcher of Cardiff University.

The study used nationally representative data from British teens and their parents alongside official EU and US ratings of game violence. Unlike previous research on the topic, which relied heavily on self-reported data from teenagers, the study used information from parents and carers to judge the level of aggressive behaviour in their children, rather than simply asking teenage boys and girls how angry they were.

Part of the problem in technology research is that there are many ways to analyse the same data, which will produce different results. A cherry-picked result can add undue weight to the moral panic surrounding video games. The registered study approach is a safe-guard against this

Jalandhar Boy Steals Rs 50,000 from Father to Buy PUBG Skins

0

PUBG Mobile is taking a lot of flak in the Indian mobile gaming market. A recent event which has come to light suggests that a 15-year-old boy in Jalandhar stole Rs 50,000 from his fatherโ€™s account to spend on buying PUBG skins and gaming accessories.

It seems the kid stole the money to buy a gaming pad for mobile along with some other PUBG Mobile skins.

The father, who works as a bike mechanic, reported the theft when he found that the amount was debited from his account.

According to reports, the father did not realise that the money was missing from his account until he filed the police complaint. He also mentioned not receiving any OTP nor any transaction messages from his bank.

The details about the transaction came to light when the cyber cell launched an investigation into the matter. It was found that the money has been transferred to a Paytm account from his and the same was used to buy PUBG items.

Just FYI, all PUBG Mobile skins and other items can only be purchased via the Google PlayStore or the app store.
