Elon Musk’s OpenAI thrashed Dendi at DotA 2 – The International 7

3

Tonight during Valve’s yearly Dota 2 tournament, a surprise segment introduced what could be the best new player in the world — a bot from Elon Musk-backed startup OpenAI. Engineers from the nonprofit say the bot learned enough to beat Dota 2 pros in just two weeks of real-time learning, though in that training period they say it amassed “lifetimes” of experience, likely using a neural network judging by the company’s prior efforts. Musk is hailing the achievement as the first time artificial intelligence has been able to beat pros in competitive e-sports.

Dota 2 pro Danylo “Dendi” Ishutin get crushed in a live 1-vs-1 match with the bot. Some of the bot’s maneuvers looked eerily human. After being defeated by the bot twice, Dendi forfeited future matches with it, and expressed surprise that a bot could outplay a human. He said the bot “feels a little like [a] human, but a little like something else.”

Dota 2 is an astoundingly complex game in which two teams of 5 players compete to siege and destroy the opposing team’s base. The game features 113 playable heroes who each possess unique abilities, as well as dozens of items that can enhance and extend each hero’s capabilities — meaning the full extent of the game’s possibilities are virtually incomprehensible, at least to a player with human limitations.

Elon Musk founded OpenAI as a nonprofit venture to prevent AI from destroying the world — something Musk has been beating the drum about for years. Just last month he told a group of US governors that AI represents a “fundamental risk to the existence of civilization.” Others, like Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg, have been less than impressed by Musk’s killer robot doomsaying.

Zeus quits Gambit to join back Na`Vi with coach Kane

The more you look at the headline, the more it looks weird. But that’s alright because it’s true. Zeus, who won a Major not a month ago with his team Gambit is now quitting the team, back to square one. Natus Vincere potentially is buying back Zeus and Gambit coach Kane. Seized returns to the active lineup, since there were no buyers for him.

According to the speculations on social media and teasers revealed by Natus Vincere, Zeus is returning back to the team. Tweet by s1mple, suggests the same. Zeus even, updating his profile picture on famous Russian social network VK.com hints on the same activity.

Hints on Zeus coming back to the roster

It is funny because not a long time ago, Navi released GuardiaN and seized after their devastating performance. There were even reports of ANGE1 and electronic joining the Ukrainian side to fill the spots.

Natus Vincere teased their fans on Instagram by suggesting an official announcement on 9th August 2017. Although there were reports of Zeus getting kicked by Na`Vi, him getting back to the team once again makes nonsense. Zeus several times has also mocked his former team on sidelining him from the roster.

Furthermore, Gambit will be at the receiving end of trolls as Zeus was the one who assembled the team and got them the major Trophy.

Causes & Reasoning

Nothing has been made clear officially from both the parties, but as per the speculations doing rounds on social media, Kane turned events. Few of the Gambit players had issues with Kane resulting in the team’s management kicking him out. This possibly triggered Zeus as he left along with Kane leaving the team behind with no IGL and coach. Kane will be joining Natus Vincere along with Zeus to hold the coaching position.

Zeus’ official statement on the shuffle

Hello, bro Hello my dear friends. What is happening right now is really shocking for the entire world. The team, which won the coolest tournament in CS GO, is making reshuffles.

Gambit team, by winning the major through very hard way, won all hearts of fans around the world. And now the news about reshuffles will certainly be shocking and very painful. But it is happening and it is inevitable.

A lot of people think that I’m giving up on my team and willingly leaving them. Some think that I’m doing that because of money. But it is not true. Moreover, after winning the major, we got any opportunities to participate and win in the best tournaments.

In our team, during 6 months period, we had a lot of troubles and misunderstandings. Despite that, we have come a long way to the victory. But in this stage, guys decided to uncompromisingly kick our coach Kein, despite a fact that I could leave with him.

Misha “Kein” is a guy with whom I worked a lot and I was friend with him for a long time, he taught me a lot and cheered me up when I got kicked from Na’Vi and he helped us to win this major. But the team thinks otherwise, in spite of my experience and my will to save the squad. Although for me it is really strange because in any big sports, situations like this one happen another way around and the coach gets respect for that (for winning the major).

I came to Gambit with a requirement that our couch will be Kein and exactly with him we got ranked up from 24th place to 3rd place and won a lot of tournaments. But now nobody cares…fame is such a thing 😉

Of course, we did considerable work for past 10 months and we spent a lot of nerves and energy. And obviously, I feel sad to leave this squad on our top, following my couch and my friend. This squad and this team will always be in my heart and it will be a special chapter in my life. The chapter in which we, despite all of the problems and situations, could win the coolest world championship and I am grateful for that.

I compare us with the team from 1.6 “eolitic”, who also played incredibly well for a year and then split up for similar reasons.

Thank you all who supported me in this team and who sincerely cheered for us. But it is life. Now the new story is waiting.

P.S. Success in this game not only about skilled players, but also tandem between captain and coach. When this atmosphere is broken, it gets hard to work.”

The conclusion – It’s official

Natus Vincere now has their full roster intact with Kane (Kein) as their coach. Zeus, s1mple, seized, flamie, and Edward. Whereas Gambit now has lost their most effective and essential firepower. The aftermath of the CIS region may look a little puzzled, but one thing is clear. XGOD has a lot of work to do. A team winning the most prestigious CS:GO event less than a month ago, broke-out. This is plain and simple, sad.

Official announcement here.

Why is Dosia called XGOD?

0

Why is Dosia called XGOD? Has this been your query from the time you’ve seen him performing at majors? Or you saw that billboard in the audience where people were cheering him up as “XGOD?” The question still remains, the 29 years old Russian who doesn’t resemble a Hollywood personality, is being labeled as XGOD?

Why is Dosia called XGOD?

It is ironic. Trust it or not. The reason fans, shout-casters, and even competitive players call him X-GOD is simply ironic. It is clearly visible that his looks aren’t comparatively fascinating, so in a way, people found a way to mock him for his appearance by calling him “s*x god” since the CS:GO games are broadcasted in TV lately, the audience has started to call him “x-god” instead.

So how did it start? It is a regular routine for the gaming audience to mock people of their body, appearances and what not! Just in a way JW is mocked as “pig”, Dosia is called XGOD ironically. But he turned the joke in his favor and acknowledged the mockery! And to fuel this even further, he put his signature during MLG Columbus as “XGOD.”

Officials at Gambit even released a video of his girlfriend’s cameo wanting to celebrate their anniversary. That all, of course in a humorous tone!

CSGO update brings Dosia play graffiti to the game

Valve has pushed a minor update today which you’ll be getting OTA of ~ 55 MB. The update is a regular routine. After a major event concludes, Valve pushes the awards and trophies virtually in the game with results.

Although this graffiti was well anticipated, we didn’t expect Valve to be so much on time to deliver this! Other than the graffiti, the game also has some minor bug fixes. Inferno has gone through some nominal graphics upgrade. Whereas, Wingman game mode on Overpass is now supported.

This is how the Graffiti looks like:

The Graffiti has its recognition from the Krakow PGL Major 2017, where Gambit’s Dosia executed an incredibly smart strategy and outplayed two players of Immortals. The play was called so well received because it had consequences on the results of the game as it broke the financial economy of the Immortals’ players and they had to buy the ammunition and rifles again in the following round after losing to the c4 detonation.

The complete update log released by Valve is below:

KRAKOW 2017

  • Engraved the Krakow 2017 Champions on the in-game trophies, and adjusted the inspect animation to make engraved champions readable.
  • Adjusted the trophy icon silhouette to disambiguate Major Championship in-game trophies from other coins.
  • Added commemorative graffiti.

MAPS

  • Fixed some minor graphical bugs on Inferno.
  • Added support for Wingman game mode on Overpass.

SOUND

  • Upgraded several surfaces sound to 16-bit for HRTF support.

MISC

  • Several performance optimizations in sound playback.

This is the sixth play which has been rewarded a permanent memorial place in the game. Earlier, olofmesiter, coldzera, Fnatic and s1mple were among the cited commemoration.

Natus Vincere to have ANGE1 and electronic

ANGE1 and electronic are reportedly joining Natus Vincere, the official announcement will be made soon according to a news portal. Both ANGE1 and electronic have been the top contenders from the CIS region to fill the spot after GuardiaN and seized quit the lineup.

According to the intel gathered by SlingShot Esports, ANGE1 and electronic are all set to join Natus Vincere and connect the missing dots.

ANGE1, who has been the star player at HellRasiers for three years, has been one of the most effective in-game leaders of the region. Electronic, on the other hand, have similar records at Flipsid3.  The eighteen year old Russian has K/D ratio of 1.09, projects HLTV. The new lineup will first make their appearance at DreamHack Malmo, Sweden.

Natus Vincere recently lost GuardiaN and seized following their underperformance in the year. There have also been reports of other team shuffles making their way to reality in this month, we’ll wait to see how things unfold once everything comes at rest!

Natus Vincere lose GuardiaN, seized

Ladislav “GuardiaN” Kovács and Denis “seized” Kostin have stepped down from Natus Vincere’s active roster, the organization announced on the website.

Natus Vincere’s CEO Yevhen Zolatarov in a YouTube video announced the departure of both GuardiaN and seized, following disappointing results.

The Natus Vincere official website’s statement on the transfer reads: “The primary reason for the roster change is the recent underperformance of the team, which has hit a serious slump after winning ESL One New York 2016PGL Major Kraków 2017, too, has not changed the situation, as the team failed to advance out of the groups and therefore lost the Legend status, finishing in 12-14th place.” Natus Vincere are now left with Edward, s1mple and flamie.

The departure was well predicted after their struggling performance at PGL Major where they lost their “Legend” status. Although according to the organization’s official announcement, both the players still retain their players contract and have just been shifted to “transfer” bucket.

There were also reports of GuardiaN moving forward to join FaZe replacing KioShima, but it is still too early to acknowledge.

UPDATE – GUARDIAN REVEALS HIS REASON TO QUIT ON TWITTER

iBuyPower unbanned from ESL

0

iBP, the famous CSGO team involved in the match-fixing scandal has been unbanned by ESL. iBuyPower unbanned from ESL are now allowed to compete in a regular form. ESL announced on Twitter, “In line with the new sanction structure we will also be lifting the indefinite match-fixing ban on ex-IBUYPOWER players for ESL competitions.”

NetCodeGuides and iBP were possibly the first two teams to be banned on griefing grounds. The two teams supposedly betted against their morality and made breathtaking profits in betting skins via CSGOLounge. Three years ago, Valve announced in their statement that they have permanently banned the players involved in match fixing without an expiry.

iBuyPower unbanned from ESL

There were even reports of iBP seeking legal parliamentary justice if there is anyone to whom their case may be presented. But soon, Valve released a list of players who they affirmed to have been banned permanently until further notice. The list included both Dazed and Steel.

ESL has aligned with ESIC, Esports Integrity Coalition to mandate the new rules for their forthcoming events. The complete report of their sanction of freeing iBP from their involvement in betting has been published. The new rule for match fixing/griefing scandals in short hints towards a-five-year ban whereas in circumstantial nature of occurrence, a monetary fine can also be imposed. The new rules are as follows:

  1. Cheating: Disqualification from the tournament, results voided, forfeiture of prize money, ban between 2 year and lifetime depending on age and level of player and nature/size of tournament and how the player cheated (this offence includes “smurfing” where both parties involved are liable to sanctions). Cheating at a competition played above an amateur level (i.e. where significant prize pool is involved or qualification for a professional event is at stake) should normally result in a 5 year ban, but, in aggravating circumstances, can result in a lifetime ban.
  2. Match-Fixing/betting fraud: Results voided, 5 year ban unless significant mitigating factors in line with the ESIC Anti-Corruption Code or, in the presence of aggravating circumstances, a longer ban, forfeiture of prize money and monetary fine (if discovered before the end of a tournament, disqualification).
  3. Doping: Results voided, ban of between 1 and 2 years, forfeiture of prize money (if discovered before the end of a tournament, disqualification).
  4. Competition manipulation and bribery: Results voided, ban of between 1 and 2 years, forfeiture of prize money and monetary fine (if discovered before the end of a tournament, disqualification).

Nevermind the rules, the justification of iBP players griefing and losing on purpose to earn thousands of skins in value will always be vague. And as Ian Smith of Integrity Commissioner of ESIC quotes “Of course, the best way to avoid a ban is not to cheat in the first place.”

Gambit beat Immortals to achieve victory at PGL Major 2017

1

Gambit Esports beat Team Immortals to win the trophy at PGL Major 2017. After being down a map in Cobblestone, Gambit took the charge and hit Immortals back consecutively in Train and Inferno. The team led by Zeus and AdreN take home $500,000!

Gambit started their journey by first beating the Swedish powerhouse Fnatic in quarters. They went on to beat the defending champions, the hope of Danes, Astralis. And in the grand finals, they had to face Immortals, the SK Gaming counter-part from Brazil. The first map Cobblestone was completely under the spell of Immortals. It was pretty bad. Immortals beat Gambit 16-4. It looked as Gambit had no space to recover from the damage done in the first map. The second map, Train, Gambit’s pick was confidently taken in favor by the Kazakhs 16-11.

The grand affair occurred on Inferno where Gambit marked their territories in the first half of the game. Limiting Immortals only to five rounds in the first half, Gambit did everything right to take things forward in their favor and winning a major for the first time ever. All thanks to the incredible performance by H0bbit not once but twice in the concluding rounds, which steered the fate of the game.

Interestingly, Zeus had earlier announced on Twitter a year ago on, that is is not going to give up until he gets to win the Major title.

And here we are!

PGL Major 2017 had its own velocity. The way the games were concluded, expressed the beauty of CS:GO. SK & Astralis, both the potential contenders to win the championship couldn’t manage to get into the final showdown. Fnatic, SK, Virtus.Pro & SK Gaming all had to settle their nerves and go home with disappointing results.

The most disappointing results were ironically from the former team mates of Zeus – the man who led Gambit to victory – Natus Vincere. Na’Vi didn’t even qualify for the playoffs. And in the process, lost their “Legend” status, which also means they would need to qualify from their region for the next Valve Major.

PGL Major Krakow final standings:

1. Gambit – $500,000 + “Legend” status
2. Immortals – $150,000 + “Legend” status
3-4. Astralis – $70,000 + “Legend” status
3-4. Virtus.pro – $70,000 + “Legend” status
5-8. fnatic – $35,000 + “Legend” status
5-8. SK – $35,000 + “Legend” status
5-8. BIG – $35,000 + “Legend” status
5-8. North – $35,000 + “Legend” status
9-11. G2 – $8,750
9-11. Cloud9 – $8,750
9-11. FlipSid3 – $8,750
12-14. Natus Vincere – $8,750
12-14. mousesports – $8,750
12-14. PENTA – $8,750
15-16. FaZe – $8,750
15-16. Vega Squadron – $8,750

AdreN was named MVP of the tournament by PGL consideing his consistent gameplay in the grand finals and throughout the tournament. Incidentally, this is the first time the 27-year-old has been awarded with the Most Valuable Player of the tournament title.

If you’re a hardcore serious Counter Strike player, you must have come across AdreN’s tricks and tutorials on how to improve your gameplay and other technical stuffs of the game. AdreN has been a consistent community player alongside his professional career. He has reported and helped Valve to solve numerous bugs of the game. Winning a major for the first time, he also said on stage that “this is his dream come true.

Indians! Now enjoy Esports on your DTH from tomorrow onwards; courtesy DSPORT

Esports is sky-high in India. Everything around the industry is contributing one way of the other into the veracity of the spectrum. Adding one more great news to the wardrobe, DSPORT, a sports channel will broadcast ESL India games live on Television!

DSPORT, sports, and entertainment TV channel by Discovery Network will initiate their first set of live games on television starting tomorrow, the 19th of July.

The games will be from that of ESL India Premiership, which features mainly CS: GO, DotA & Clash Royale.

DSPORT
Esports all over the world has already adapted the development.

ESL India Premiership, being one of the most competitive events of the year in India has contributed a lot in creating an active community of participants and the audience. The gamers hypothetically were labeled as kids, but after this, the contention of the masses will shift towards accepting this growing culture.

This is for the first time, that a competitive gaming event of this level will be featured and broadcasted live on satellite televisions. Not to forget, there was a show prior to this roughly a decade ago which went by the name “Games Bond,” but it was rather a casual juncture.

DSPORT

The list of satellite television network providers are as below:

[table id=6 /]

It is, however, still unclear if all the other franchise of ESL India will have their slot on display in DSPORT. Esports in television is an invention in India compared to the other countries which already have dedicated a time-slot for broadcasting e-gaming festivals.

The first to start this in a regular fashion was ELEAGUE which broadcasted their ELEAGUE Seasons in television on major platforms all across US and Canada.

The Great Indian Clash Royale Debacle

0

Clash Royale, the popular mobile card strategy game lately has been part of heated arguments between two sects of gamers particularly in the Indian gaming community mainly due to its inclusion in one of India’s top tiered esport tournaments — The ESL India Premiership.

A few members from the Clash Royale Indian community, have openly expressed their opinion against alter egos bashing the game these players have spent months perfecting. But, sadly they have failed to gather that much-needed support and encouragement by the growing yet slightly inactive clash community in India. Which makes me come to my point.

Are the alter egos right? Should Clash Royale, a “Pay to win” mobile game have not been included in the ESL India Premiership?

I hope, I’m able to expand your understanding of this discussion with the experience that i have gained being an active part of the Esports community in India for almost a year now.

Clash Royale was formally added to the ESL India Premiership in the Summer of 2016, just after the completion of ESL India’s first LAN event. The ESL India Premiership 2016 Challenger #1. It replaced Hearthstone, another card strategy game, joining the premiership as the third feature along with Dota 2 and Counter-Strike : Global Offensive. The decision to drop hearthstone from the Premiership was made due to the fact that it failed to rile up the existing Hearthstone community in India. It failed to pull in reasonable numbers for registrations and attract viewership for the organizations twitch channel. Clash Royale, on the other hand, was quick to catch up. Within 5 days of the announcement for registrations, the game managed to attract more than 100 registrations, almost 50 more than what its predecessor started with. With each subsequent tournament, the number kept on increasing and currently, at the time of writing this, stands at a whopping 630 registrations.

That was the history bit, but now about the game. According to me, there are about 7 things which make a video game an esport and surprisingly, Clash Royale manages to make an appearance in all 7 of my points. Let me show you, how.

  1. It’s easy to grasp…

The beauty of Clash Royale, as a video game lies in its simplicity. There are two opposing King towers in the Arena, with each side having two archer towers to defend against their opponent. The objective of the game, use everything at your disposal to bring down the most number of towers in under 3 minutes. Yes, that’s it. A game lasts only three minutes!

2. But, deeper than it looks.

This point is quite obvious. If a game doesn’t have depth, it’s unlikely to attract a dedicated audience. Clash Royale offers a variety of cards which you use in sync with other cards to cohesively take out the enemy towers. Advanced techniques such as positioning and aggro require a lot of skill, in turn pushing hardcore players to practice until they are good enough to reliably execute them.

3. Light but firmly balanced.

Well, apart from the recently launched Nightwitch card which, sooner or later is gonna end up being nerfed, the game is quite evenly balanced. This adds to the diversity of strategies which can be executed making each game fun to watch and even more fun to play.

4. It’s free to play.

Much of Clash Royale’s popularity in India can be attributed to it being free to start, available across a variety of mobile devices and not really that graphic intensive and with the rise of the internet, that number has been growing exponentially. But on the other hand, the game quietly needs a rather hefty investment of either time or money to build a competitive deck. Legendary cards aren’t easy to get.

5. It does an effective job of building up the tension.

How many times have I seen — nail biting finishes, quick counters, and unfortunate mistakes all leading to one’s untimely defeat or victory? The beauty of a story lies in that watercooler moment afterward. It’s like “Hey, I was watching this match, and something amazing happened”. I think that’s what gives an esport or rather any form of entertainment that hook. As usual, the narrative trumps all.

6. It has a strong community.

Though much can be said about the Clash Royale community in India, it’ll be right when i say it that the community in India compared to the rest of the world is quite inactive. Clash Royale, worldwide attracts a lot of attention with a wide variety of content by the community in the form of guides, strategies, articles, podcasts, Youtube videos and streams. Also, the fact that you can communicate with your opponent only by the means of emotes does a subtle job of reducing toxicity which we see quite prevalent in other games, we Indians spend most of the time playing 😛

7. And finally, it needs a big prize pool.

As the game, gets bigger and bigger it attracts a lot of sponsors, which in turn results in larger prize pools and basically, you get the idea. ESL India Premiership 2017 boasts of a 6,13,800 INR prize pool, making it one of the largest prize pools in the history of gaming in the Indian subcontinent.

I hope some of your most pressing questions pertaining to the inclusion of Clash Royale in the ESL India Premiership have been answered with what I have written above. I personally believe that Clash Royale is the messiah that will spread esports down to the very grassroots of India owing to this game’s incredible ease of access to Mobile users. So hop on you naysayers, support the game. Support the growth of esport in India. Till next time.
