Riot Games could be working on issuing penalties for malicious usage of direct messages alongside a noise suppression feature for voice chat in Valorant, recent leaks suggest.
The leaks were put forward by prominent Valorant leaker and dataminer valohabercisi, who shared their findings via an X post on August 6.
According to the leaker, the Valorant devs have already started working on the two aforementioned features.
New Valorant Features Leaked: Noise Suppression and DM Bans
As per the leaks, the noise suppression feature for voice chat is being developed with Krisp AI, which is the same noise suppression present on Discord.
Upon enabling this feature, it will aim to reduce all background noise coming from your microphone and ensure that your voice reaches other players more clearly.
Apart from the noise suppression, another new feature might see players who use bad language in direct messages to their friends receiving penalties in the future.
However, several players have expressed concerns over the penalties coming to whisper messages, as Riot is already infamous for its overly strict approach to chat moderation. Players are worried that the system could potentially hand out punishments for messages sent jokingly or taken out of context, especially in private conversations between friends.
That said, Riot has yet to officially confirm how the new system will work or what kind of penalties players could receive for inappropriate direct messages.
In fact, both of these upcoming features are merely leaks at the time of writing, with no confirmation from Riot whatsoever, so be sure to take this with a grain of salt.
